Historia
Set in the mountains of southern Appalachia, Demon Copperhead is the story of a boy born to a teenaged single mother in a single-wide trailer, with no assets beyond his dead father’s good looks and copper-colored hair, a caustic wit, and a fierce talent for survival. Relayed in his own unsparing voice, Demon braves the modern perils of foster care, child labor, derelict schools, athletic success, addiction, disastrous loves, and crushing losses.

Powerful, Riveting
Revisado: 12-30-22
A powerful, riveting story of addiction, love, success, hope and loss in Appalachia. The narration was perfect. I couldn’t stop listening, as painful as it was to hear at times.

What do you do with a little kid who...won't brush her teeth...screams in his car seat...pinches the baby...refuses to eat vegetables...runs rampant in the supermarket? Organized according to common challenges and conflicts, this book is an essential emergency first-aid manual of communication strategies, including a chapter that addresses the special needs of children with sensory processing and autism spectrum disorders.

Helpful and Funny
Revisado: 09-18-20
This book is outstanding. The narration is excellent, it makes me laugh out loud, and the information is extremely helpful. Not only is it useful info on how to communicate with your little kids (I have a 4 yr old, 2 yr old, & 3 month old), but communication in general. In particular, how to deal with my bigger kids as they figure out how to deal with each other.. between trouble with sharing, hitting/kicking & arguing. Great advice & guidance on how to keep my cool while also, hopefully, getting better behaviors in the long run. Sending a huge thank you to the authors!!

Unique Story, Chinese Folklore
Revisado: 09-17-18
A refreshing read. The story is a unique and largely unpredictable drama, with a backbone of Chinese folklore and history. The narration is excellent, but sounds like it’s on fast forward. I found .75 speed to be far more enjoyable. I think somewhere between 1x and .75x would be perfect.

There is no easy path for a woman aspiring to power. A concubine at the palace learns quickly that there are many ways to capture the emperor's attention. Many paint their faces white and style their hair attractively, hoping to lure in the One Above All with their beauty. Some present him with fantastic gifts, such as jade pendants and scrolls of calligraphy, while others rely on their knowledge of seduction to draw his interest. But young Mei knows nothing of these womanly arts, yet she will give the emperor a gift he can never forget.

Excellent Narrator, Interesting Story
Revisado: 08-17-18
Imperial drama. If you like this genre, well worth a listen. Some parts are a bit predictable- the foreshadowing can be a little obvious, but plenty of surprises as well. Overall, an interesting listen with a very engaging narrator.

Interesting & Historical Fantasy
Revisado: 08-12-17
I loved listening to this book for its historical, engaging narrative & excellent narrator. The plot was heartbreaking at times, and at other times a little too good to be true. Regardless of the occasionally fantasy-like high points, I found the plot interesting and even inspiring. I have lived in China & love Pu'er tea, but I knew nothing of its context. So enlightening!

Prodigal Summer weaves together three stories of human love within a larger tapestry of lives in southern Appalachia. At the heart of these intertwined narratives is a den of coyotes that have recently migrated into the region. Deanna Wolfe, a reclusive wildlife biologist, watches them from an isolated mountain cabin where she is caught off-guard by Eddie Bondo, a young hunter who comes to invade her most private spaces and her solitary life.

Great Narration, Fairly Cheesy Detective Novel
Revisado: 01-02-17
The narration is excellent. The plot is fairly predictable, but could be worth a listen if you're looking to pass the time. Some violent imagery. It's a True Detective style story except a little cheesy.
