Historia
The New York Times Magazine’s award-winning “1619 Project” issue reframed our understanding of American history by placing slavery and its continuing legacy at the center of our national narrative. This new book substantially expands on that work, weaving together 18 essays that explore the legacy of slavery in present-day America with 36 poems and works of fiction that illuminate key moments of oppression, struggle, and resistance.

A Must Read. This belongs in the classroom
Revisado: 05-09-22
We can no longer purposefully allow the dumbing down of our children. As a white woman, the schools only teaching History classes of the white people highlight reel is just unacceptable. All of the non-white races have been abused to some degree. My only complaint with the book would be that when the story of the Trail of Tears was told, the author failed to mention that the Cherokee people sued at the Supreme Court level to enforce the treaty to keep their land, and won. Andrew Jackson refused to enforce it. It was also not mentioned the degree that the black people had integrated into the tribes, and that they too relieved allotments of land from the Dawes Rolls. our full history needs to be taught, or we will be doomed to repeat some of it.

No conclusion to any part of the story
Revisado: 04-18-22
If you were hoping for a brilliant and satisfying conclusion, prepare for disappointment. it just felt like there was going to be more books, or the author grew tired or writing this story.

Historia
Since the publication of the first edition of Critical Race Theory in 2001, the United States has lived through two economic downturns, an outbreak of terrorism, and the onset of an epidemic of hate directed against immigrants, especially undocumented Latinos and Middle Eastern people. On a more hopeful note, the country elected and re-elected its first black president and has witnessed the impressive advance of gay rights. Critical Race Theory is essential for understanding developments in this burgeoning field, which has spread to other disciplines and countries.

An important read for everyone thinking kids are
Revisado: 03-21-22
anyone who thinks our kids are being taught this in school needs to take a listen. Then take a hard look at the media and politicians that think you are not smart enough to check it out for yourself. This a graduate school level class for lawyers folks. You could not twist this into anything for chilren in school.

Historia
In Putin’s People, the investigative journalist and former Moscow correspondent Catherine Belton reveals the untold story of how Vladimir Putin and the small group of KGB men surrounding him rose to power and looted their country. Delving deep into the workings of Putin’s Kremlin, Belton accesses key inside players to reveal how Putin replaced the freewheeling tycoons of the Yeltsin era with a new generation of loyal oligarchs, who in turn subverted Russia’s economy and legal system and extended the Kremlin's reach into the United States and Europe.

With the same suppleness, energy, and range of voices that won their translation of The Brothers Karamazov the PEN/Book-of-the-Month Club Prize, Pevear and Volokhonsky offer a brilliant translation of Dostoevsky's classic novel that presents a clear insight into this astounding psychological thriller. This audio edition of Crime and Punishment is expressively brought to life by Peter Batchelor.

Good book, at times hard to get through
Revisado: 01-10-22
The book nearly lost me from the start with a vivid and violent scene of animal cruelty. The characters take a long time to develop and there is a fair amount of unending dialog that felt like filler. you never get the satisfaction you seek and I felt let down.

Disappointed
Revisado: 01-04-22
if you have seen the series " The Haunting of Hill House", and you are expecting that story... be ready for a let down. The names are the same, and that is where it ends. it isn't scary, and you are starving for the series story. if I were to have read this without having seen the series, I would have found it choppy and dull. The characters are never really developed.
