Lesson Learned: no baby talk
Revisado: 12-12-22
After listening to this book I know now to avoid any audio books with child characters who are likely to talk. The 3-year-olds baby voice in this was awful. I don't think it that it is the narrator's fault, I don't know how anyone could credibly do a child's voice that isn't grating. Every time she spoke I had a visceral reaction and it definitely took me out of the story. Besides the baby talk though, the story just did not hold my interest. I've read other Nora Roberts books and know that she can be very captivating with her character descriptions but this one fell flat for me. None of the suspense was all that interesting. I didn't connect with any of the characters in any meaningful way. The meet cute wasnt anything to write home about...The whole thing was just kind of forgettable.

Not my Favorite SB
Revisado: 06-12-22
I've read quite a few Sandra Brown novels so far and have really enjoyed them. this one just did not hit for me. I didn't buy the romance between the two main characters. the tension between the love interests that I think Sandra Brown is kind of famous for at this point just did not exist between the two characters. We're able to hear inner monologue and yet we never really hear her have feelings for him until they suddenly kiss at almost the end of the book. and I couldn't enjoy the moment because I didn't really feel that she had in any way expressed that this would be something she'd be open to. Even he doesn't really express feelings for her beyond thinking that she's beautiful and having somewhat of an innate attraction to her. in the last two chapters of the book he kind of explains why he thinks she's special, but everything up to that was pretty superficial. The book is kind of long and drawn out, there's definitely lulls in the activity. There is a nice few twists at the end but overall this was extremely disappointing and kind of felt like a waste of time. I spent a lot of time waiting for things to pick up but the overall pace of the book was pretty slow and didn't really keep my attention the way that other SB books have.

If a young Moira rose reads you a story
Revisado: 03-29-22
This book is beautiful. I read the book because I watched the trailer for the movie coming out in 2022 and was intrigued. I have been hearing about the book for a while, but he impending movie pushed me to actually listen to the book. I didn't think it was going to live up to the hype but it was an excellent, heartfelt story. The narrator does a great job switching between characters and making them distinct. My only critique is that her long drawn out vowels made me feel like I was listening to Moira Rose from Schitts Creek read me a story sometimes. A little bit exaggerated for me and took me out of the story more than a few times.

Don't waste a credit or your time.

This is one of the worst books I've ever read or listened to. I'm 21 and am used to a healthy amount of cursing and crass talk but this book was ridiculous. The f bomb was dropped constantly and unnecessarily. Real people just don't talk like that. It was like reading a thirteen year old girl's version of erotic biker fiction-just completely unbelievable and unrealistic. The thing you should know before paying to listen to this book is that THE FEMALE CHARACTER READS IN HER VERSION OF A MAN'S VOICE FOR A LARGE PART OF THE BOOK. This also took me out of the story. Each chapter is told by either King's point of view with a male reading the lines or Doe's point of view with the female reading the lines. In any chapter told from Doe's point of view where King says something, the female does a "manly voice." It is worse than I can even describe. It was really hard to get into in the beginning and I was like, "surely this must get better." And it did get a little bit better towards the end but it still wasn't even close to being a good book. I read everyone else's reviews and thought, "pssh I can handle some bad language, these must be older, more sensitive readers that have no business reading this type of book." NO. Listen to the other reviews. The cursing is over the top. Like I said, no one talks like that. It's basically the men trying to be "badder" than each other. Like it's a competition of who's had the worse life or is more of a rough character. It was so bad, I'm just glad it's over.
