Ah, Nyil, with its magic, its monsters, and its petty gods. A divine spat leaves French medic Viv stranded in the middle of an arcane disaster zone crawling with undead horrors. Thankfully, there are strange allies to be found, not least the mysterious interface that helps humans survive in this merciless world. Viv will have to progress fast to survive this calamity and find civilisation. She will also need a bit of luck. Unless, of course, she becomes the calamity herself. Good Storytelling

I love this series. The dry sardonic with mixed with the horrid and the grim is my humor lane. This book, first in a very good series, sets the tone. The main narrator captures Viv very well in all. ut one aspect. She gets her freespirited, eb

Historia
The Hexologists, Iz and Warren Wilby, are quite accustomed to helping desperate clients with the bugbears of city life. Aided by hexes and a bag of charmed relics, the Wilbies have recovered children abducted by chimney-wraiths, removed infestations of barb-nosed incubi, and ventured into the Gray Plains of the Unmade to soothe a troubled ghost. Well-acquainted with the weird, they never shy away from a challenging case.

I'd already read the book but I do love British accents and so I got this too. The story comes to life and the narrator does a good job.

Great Continuation of Series
Revisado: 06-30-24
It's been a while since the third book so it was nice to get an update on most of them and to enjoy a moment with them. The narration was excellent, the story was (too short) engrossing and more than held my interest. If you've read the series up to now you won't be disappointed. If you haven't, I suggest you do since that would make your enjoyment of this book much greater.

I love the London the author writes and any glimpses unto are fun. The downside for me is that I wanted each story to continue on. Enjoy!

Simon is the best delivery boy that Mr Edwards’s restaurant has ever had. He’s on time every time, and he’s gotten nothing but good reviews. But he needs more money. His mother’s medical treatment won’t pay for itself, and his father is already working three jobs to try to make ends meet. But it might just be his lucky day: Mr. Edwards has another job for him. It’s more delivery work, but not the usual kind. You might even say that it’s out of this world. Oh well. Beggars can’t be choosers, and the pay is fantastic.

Excellent!

I've now read the printed version and listened to the audio book and can say that both are great. The narrator was the perfect choice. The deadpan ironic humor comes through without overwhelming the storyline. I love Simon, Cuddles, and the retired pizza parlor owner ( blanked in his name) and hope to see many more adventures.

Historia
The London Silver Vaults—for well over a century, the largest collection of silver for sale in the world. It has more locks than the Bank of England and more cameras than a paparazzi convention. Not somewhere you can murder someone and vanish without a trace—only that’s what happened. The disappearing act, the reports of a blinding flash of light, and memory loss amongst the witnesses all make this a case for Detective Constable Peter Grant and the Special Assessment Unit.

The combination of dry, understated, fairly cynical humor with robust magic, and solid historical research makes for good, good stories. Add the superb talents of the narrator and excellence occurs.

The Sheep Dragon is a collection of 14 short stories set before, during, and after the first four parts of The Unconventional Heroes series. Each story addresses questions of world-shaking importance like: Is it possible for a young dragon to watch over a flock of sheep without those sheep ending up in his stomach? What do necromancers actually do at necromancer conventions? And what is the best way to deal with a surprise demonic invasion?

Sheer Delight!
Revisado: 08-24-21
One of my favorite authors and this short story collection ably demonstrates why that is....funny, sweet, adorable, and we're talking about necromancy, zombies, monsters, lots of killing, and oh, fashion sense. My kinda humor! (Until I started this series I stayed far, far away from zombies but if they stay absurd and non carnivorous I'm good.) Definitely read\listen to this book. If you haven't read any if the series yet, start with A Necromancer, A Bureaucrat, and and Elf and enjoy!!!

Revisado: 07-29-21
I'm a big fan of the author and read these books awhile ago but when I saw the opportunity to get the audible versions I grabbed it. The narrator is terrific, the stories are so, so good. The author manages to grab the funny side of horror and treat it as if all is normal, in a most humorous way. If your brand of humor is "not normal" you'll probably enjoy these stories.

Revisado: 06-23-21
If you haven't discovered this series yet, do so now. I'm not going to spoil the delight of finding out what it's about it her than to say that of all the mystical, fantastical, stories I've read centered in NYC this one is in my top three. Mr. Older captures Brooklyn so well. The people , the issues, the heart, loves, hates, family that makes Brooklyn a treasure (or was until gentrification). Enjoy!

Historia
Spring, 1909, and Lady Hardcastle, amateur sleuth and all-round eccentric, is enjoying a well-deserved rest. But a week after a trip to the cattle market, Spencer Caradine, a local farmer, turns up dead in the pub, face-down in his beef and mushroom pie. Once again, it is up to Lady Hardcastle and her maid, Florence, to solve the case. Armed with wit and whimsy, not to mention Florence’s mean right hook, the pair set out to discover what really happened and why. Was it poison or just ill luck?

Delightful
Revisado: 04-15-21
TE Kinsey has written a series about a widowed Lady, ex-spy, who along with her Lady's Maid, Flo, retire to the country and take up detecting. The two main characters are witty, charming, and tend to "unlady like" interests. The mysteries they find themselves solving, with the capable assistance of a DI, makes for a pleasurable romp thru late 19th Century England. The narrator hits the mark, bringing the stories to life. I highly recommend.
