Historia
Geoff Shepard had a ringside seat to the unfolding Watergate debacle. As the youngest lawyer on Richard Nixon’s staff, he personally transcribed the Oval Office tape in which Nixon appeared to authorize getting the CIA to interfere with the ongoing FBI investigation, and even coined the phrase “the smoking gun.” Like many others, the idealistic Shepard was deeply disappointed in the president. But as time went on, the meticulous lawyer was nagged by the persistent sense that something wasn’t right with the case against Nixon.

the book tries to justify illegal activity by a President of the United States
Revisado: 04-25-25
1/3 of the book is anti Dean. we have an X Nixon supporter who still thinks President Nixon and his illegal activity was justified. innuendo self opinion. the man is pro Nixon and pro-trump and anti-constitutional. the author bases his defensive Nixon on the transcripts of the tapes whereas the tapes themselves set a different light on things. it's entertaining to have an alternate opinion of History. the bottom line is that Richard Nixon resigned his office because the laws of government and adherence to the Constitution worked. probably the last time it did given the current state of our government functionality

Historia
In February 1944, in one of the most astonishing battles of World War II, a ragtag collection of British clerks, drivers, doctors, muleteers, and other base troops, stiffened by a few dogged Yorkshiremen and a handful of tank crews, managed to defeat a much larger and sophisticated contingent of some of the finest infantry in the Japanese army on their march toward India.

the book provides decent information however the the narrator was speaking so fast you really couldn't keep up with the story and all the details. in addition the author provided a plethora of detail but didn't flush it out as in where the British units came from, how they were organized, spending a little more time on the different ethnic groups that made up the British army at the time from all the participating colonies and Commonwealths. spending a little more time identifying where the geography was within Burma but also help a bit.

mediocre story- Star Wars is lost some of its magic
Revisado: 02-10-25
I haven't listened to Star Wars audiobooks in a while but this new Canon tends to focus more on the Romantic relationships between people versus the actual story the stories are weaker in the writing is mediocre at best. Mark Thompson of course does an amazing performance as usual but he's only as good as the material he's given. Star Wars isn't about whose Romancing who it's about the fight between Good and Evil and what is the right thing to do versus the politically correct thing to do. some of that is Manifest in this story. however the biggest mistake Disney has ever made is ignoring all of the cannon that kept Star Wars going between Return of the Jedi and the release of episode 1.

too much fluff in the story
Revisado: 08-16-24
story was very difficult to listen to. it's not the narrator's fault it's just that the material is not what I was expecting from an alien novel.

unfortunately story was mediocre and predictable
Revisado: 08-05-24
Unfortunately the alien formula has been almost beaten to death. Like Dragnet, the names have been changed to protect the innocent - yet it's still people find egg, egg turns into monster people run from Monster and then there's a soul survivor... that pretty much sums up the Alien Saga. the narrator has some good accents, but I found The Voice very monotone

Historia
Without John C. Houbolt, a mid-level engineer at NASA, Apollo 11 would never have made it to the moon. Top NASA engineers on the project, including Werner Von Braun, strongly advocated for a single, huge spacecraft to travel to the moon, land, and return to Earth. It's the scenario used in 1950s cartoons and horror movies about traveling to outer space. Houbolt had another idea: Lunar Orbit Rendezvous. LOR would link two spacecraft in orbit while the crafts were travelling at 3,600 miles an hour around the moon. His plan was ridiculed and considered unthinkable.

Historia
Today, the Space Race is widely viewed poignantly and fondly as a race to the Moon that culminated with Apollo 11 "winning" the race for the United States. In fact, it encompassed a much broader range of competition between the Soviet Union and the United States that affected everything from military technology to successfully launching satellites that could land on Mars or orbit other planets in the solar system. Moreover, the notion that America "won" the Space Race at the end of the 1960s overlooks just how competitive the Space Race actually was in launching people into orbit.

the book was a wealth of information for statistical analysis. I just think they could have picked a better narrator to add a little more inflection and enthusiasm to the material being read.

Historia
In Apollo's Legacy, space historian Roger D. Launius explores the many-faceted stories told about the meaning of the Apollo program and how it forever altered American society. The Apollo missions marked the first time human beings left Earth's orbit and visited another world, and thus they loom large in our collective memory. Many have detailed the exciting events of the Apollo program, but Launius offers unique insight into its legacy as seen through multiple perspectives.

Too much Fluff
Revisado: 05-01-24
the author is a little long-winded explanations and goes off on tangents that are really not necessary to the story. I'm a big fan of Apollo but there are many better reads on Audible on the subject as compared to this particular book.

very insightful but a little dry...
Revisado: 10-19-23
the book provided insights into the thinking of our political leaders at the time during the missile crisis. it's amazing to finally find out what went on behind closed doors thanks to the recordings that Kennedy made during that time..
I think the current super powers political leadership should read the book and see what parallels are happening now that also occurred during the missile crisis... and learn from it.
