Provides motivation and maybe reasoning as to Why you should clean up. I remember about 10 years ago businesses were pushing start with why to their employees in training videos. This book reminds me of that. Tidying is more than just OCD or cleaning up because someone maybe coming over. It will also change your state of mind and you will carry your clean house with you wherever you go. It’s a mindset, she says at the beginning of the book. She actually doesn’t recommend cleaning all the time and says it usually takes her client one major event and then they will just keep their environment clean the rest of the time without having to take a lot of time to clean up. This long time of cleaning up happens once she says, then after that it’s much easier to keep tidy maybe because your mindset has changed once you realize “the magic of tidying up” she instructs you to keep what sparks joy but this may be different things for different people and as you age what used to spark joy for you may not have meaning in your life as of right now. She likens to this to past relationships maybe you may not keep a relationship forever but you valued it along your journey through life. If it still sparks joy keep it, if not it may be time to move on.

I think ego state therapy focuses on staying in the adult all the time which is basically a computer who analyzes problems and is incapable of having fun. Eric Berne who described ego states expanding on Freud’s work says each ego state has value and you are neglecting the importance of other ego states if you stay in one all the time. This is different from the schizophrenic who is constantly switching ego states. The adult’s job is to process information and select the appropriate ego state to respond from. If you listen to this you will get a watered down version of the importance of the different ego states and think the others don’t have value. This is a misconception of Transactional Analysis. I do like her describing the Child ego state where our emotions or feelings live. She advises us to protect it, which I also agree with but from listening to her it sounds like her answer is just to be Adult all the time. Rather than filtering information before responding as a Parent (either Nurturing or Critical) Adult or Child. It is no fun to be Adult all the time.

There is no way this man David met a man named Ted who happens to be a trained psychiatrist on the beach who knows more about the Karpman drama triangle than someone who just watched a YouTube video on it. There are thick books dedicated to the roles of the drama triangle and it’s switches. Why would Ted spend so much time giving away this information for free and how does he know so much about it? Not believable story to me. It is entertaining, nonetheless.

Everything Sandler has is good. This is no different. These are rules he’d give out during his seminar and good Sandler salespeople know them.

First step in selling. If you try to sell something even if it’s the best thing in the world, the prospect will never buy it, if there is no bonding or rapport established.

He talks about science and dopamine as motivation. It is a reward chemical the brain thrives on. It is also why drugs are so hard to quit. He is basically saying by controlling what you focus on, you can control what you use your dopamine on. In other words, you can trick yourself into getting more done just by what you put your time and attention into. He says in the beginning of the book he takes a week off every quarter just to waste dopamine on pointless activities because he disciplines himself not to do it during the other times. It is funny but you could still do this with any drug and nonproductive activity, like playing video games. He is trapping himself to get more work done.

Original self-help book. I prefer this voice over the modern voice. There are clips of the author spewed in here too but very little. The content is good, nonetheless.
