New Mono-tonal narrator, still finishing series
Revisado: 08-13-21
Listened and enjoyed the prior 5 books such that I binged them all in a week @2xspeed. First 10 seconds of this book I noticed something was off. There is a new narrator. Further research found the author switched to get new releases to audio fans more expeditiously. As an audiobook junky I empathize with impatient fans and comprehend that delayed releases can effect mid to short term sales for an author. I don’t know if it would ever happen, but I would purchase collector’s editions of the new books with the original narrator. As it is it is challenging to to distinguish characters when the narrator drones on like a tenured professor that hasn’t had his coffee.

Historia
After the latest mission of the starship Flying Dutchman, Earth is safe not just for a year, but for hundreds of years. The ship’s weary crew wonders what they will do with their lives in peacetime, but the enemy has other plans, and there is danger on the Homefront. Starring Zachary Quinto, R.C. Bray, Kate Mulgrew, Robert Picardo, and everyone's favorite AI, Skippy the Magnificent, alongside a full cast. Includes plenty of pew-pew-pew, original sound composition, and maybe some singing by R.C. Bray.

I love the series, but I hope they don’t do this again
Revisado: 07-07-19
Less content, more production cost. With the live action acting style they chose, drastically limiting narration, I often had no idea what was going on, the music and sound effects often overshadowed the voice actors and because of the limited narration I also missed Craig Alanson’s ‘author voice.’ One of the things, in my humble opinion, that made his series so successful was how he could tell, instead of show, but make it enjoyable using his narrative style, like (the following is not a direct quote but a horrible approximation. If I find a specific line and am able to edit this later I will)
“Huh, the shield is down,” the missile said to itself. “That’s not supposed to happen. Oh well, time to blow stuff up.” And it did.
There’s very little of that humorous, charming narration here, because of it’s live action voice acted style.
Sub note, Skippy sings DIRECTLY to the audience. When his singing tortures the crew it’s vicariously funny, when he sings to us it’s just torture.

The ads enthused, "The virtual lands of Mirror World await you! Live out your most secret dreams in our world of Sword and Sorcery! Become a Great Wizard or a Famous Warrior! Build your own castle, tame a dragon, conquer a kingdom! All those desperate, lonely, and insecure - Mirror World offers you a chance!" But Oleg isn't meant to become a great wizard or a famous warrior. He'll never have a castle of his own. Nor will he ever tame a dragon. And he's definitely not the type to conquer a kingdom, however virtual it may be.

don't know why I bought & or that I could'v return
Revisado: 07-28-18
I stopped listening to this book because I couldn't stand the concept. I want to feel bad for hating it, but I can't. The concept of having a job in VR that isn't being an actor in an MMO or design is utterly ludicrous. I mean he's quite literally DATA MINING. Also the premise, his daughter can't afford treatment for her life-threatening illness is a trope that should contract a life-threatening illness, curl up in a cave and die, not to be found for millions of years. And when alien archeologists DO find it's fossilized remains they leave it there.

Historia
Trained in his youth for war and politics, Sumto is interested in neither. As the son of a Patron, he should gather clients, acquire wealth, learn magic, husband a political power base and take his place amongst the Assembly of Patrons, the rulers of the city. Sumto would rather gather friends, acquire books, learn history, husband a hangover and take his place at the gambling tables. That is not going to be an option for much longer.

The other review that said this work was horrible was completely and unequivocally wrong
Revisado: 10-05-15
I enjoyed the transformations of Sumpto and his tale greatly. I am disappointed that audible doesn't have the sequels available.
Occasionally there were quirks or notions of Sumpto that conflicted with his previous character in ways I cannot truly describe.
A minor irritation: some lines are repeated leaving you wondering if the editing was done incorrectly.

Strong female lead, mild romance (oddly Stockholm). Love the geography and character physical descriptions. Goes out of the norm in description of trolls, very novel for them to be so bird like. Mention of goblins near the end w/no description :( some bits predictable but only portions that if otherwise would anger readers (ie character lives vs dies).

Why we think it’s a great listen: You thought he was a stodgy scientist with funny hair, but Isaacson and Hermann reveal an eloquent, intense, and selfless human being who not only shaped science with his theories, but politics and world events in the 20th century as well. Based on the newly released personal letters of Albert Einstein, Walter Isaacson explores how an imaginative, impertinent patent clerk became the mind reader of the creator of the cosmos.

I laughed I cried and I loved
Revisado: 10-05-14
Where does Einstein rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This was the first audio biography I ever heard. I do not regret it and it will not be my last. Walter Isaacson explained Einstein's theories simply, leaving myself in wonder. He described complex relationships, that puzzled even Einstein, with ease. These were expected. What I did not expect was for this genius' feelings and thoughts to find their way from mein ears to mein heart. It was truly twenty-one and a half hours of poetry in relative motion.
What other book might you compare Einstein to and why?
I am looking for biographies on Newton, Teddy Roosevelt, and John Muir. I feel some of these would give rise from the depths, the same emotions as this.
Which scene was your favorite?
My favorite scene, was the one that made me cry the most. His lasts words. By the time you hear this, you will understand why I cried.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Einstein: A life poetic in relative motion
Any additional comments?
His some grows to be a famous enginerring professor. As an engineer I should like to hear a biography about him.
