What did you love best about The Brain That Changes Itself?
It's hard not to rank this book as amazing when you consider what is being claimed here: A brain that changes itself! If i told you there is a near fully functioning adult with only half a brain you would not believe a word I'm saying, until you look her up yourself.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
With special needs children and regular old crazies in my family, and the world, I've always been intrigued by just how the brain functions. So this is a book that I just can't stop listening to. The data has to be taken in small doses so i feel like I've in class every time I listen. But it's one of those classes that leaves your enamored by the professor, amazes by the information and challenged by the implications.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Alchemist to be better than the print version?
I read this in paperback simultaneously with the audible and I still feel as though I wasn't quite prepared for the message. The Alchemist is one of those books that will be waiting for you to arrive at a place where it meets you with the very thing you didn't even know you needed.

Revisado: 10-18-16
Would you try another book from Edward Kelsey Moore and Edward Kelsey Moore and/or Adenrele Ojo and Pamella D'Pella ?
Just like my confusion with the authors names, the characters left me confused. At times I had to go back to understand who was speaking and remind myself who the character was.
What did you like best about this story?
I loved that Odette was a full woman with a full life and character.
Could you see The Supremes at Earl's All-You-Can-Eat being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
I would actually love to see this as a movie or miniseries. Odette would be Jennifer Hudson
Clarice would be Jurnee Smolette
And Barbara Jean would be Yaya DaCosta

She could read the phone book and I'd listen
Revisado: 10-18-16
What made the experience of listening to Beloved the most enjoyable?
There are many reviews of Morrison's performance that are not quite as enthusiastic as my own. I get it, she's mostly monotone (and oh what a beautiful tone) and only slightly shifts from one character to the next. But this is very much (in my opinion) a matter of familial familiarity. If you have no trouble imagining Morrison as your most comfy auntie or "come and give me some suga" grandma, then hearing her baritone will feel and nearly smell, just like Madea. Otherwise, you feel like you're at the kiddie table, in the corner yelling "what did she say?, I don't get it"

With clarity and passion, he lays out the scope of the problem and proposes a wealth of reforms that could prevent injustice and help us achieve true fairness and equality before the law.

From 1915 to 1970, this exodus of almost six million people changed the face of America. Wilkerson compares this epic migration to the migrations of other peoples in history. She interviewed more than a thousand people, and gained access to new data and official records, to write this definitive and vividly dramatic account of how these American journeys unfolded, altering our cities, our country, and ourselves.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Warmth of Other Suns to be better than the print version?
This is one of those books that is good no matter how you experience it.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Warmth of Other Suns?
Hearing the stories of celebrated African Americans like Jesse Owens and understanding what it took for him to overcome, was one of many awe inspiring elements of this story.
Have you listened to any of Robin Miles and Ken Burns (introduction) ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
This is a collection of stories that will never fade from your conscious. The fullness of the data and the wholeness of the characters, make this one of those books that will be referenced now and forever.

Each day we face a barrage of images and messages from society and the media telling us who, what, and how we should be. We are led to believe that if we could only look perfect and lead perfect lives, we'd no longer feel inadequate. So most of us perform, please, and perfect, all the while thinking, What if I can't keep all of these balls in the air? Why isn't everyone else working harder and living up to my expectations? What will people think if I fail or give up? When can I stop proving myself?

This is one gift I can't bring myself to regift.
Revisado: 10-18-16
What disappointed you about The Gifts of Imperfection?
There were so many visible elements of disconnect. As a woman and mother, I expected to be able to connect with Brown and gain from her narrative. Instead, I was left feeling like she was still searching for answers to questions she's attempting to answer here.
Has The Gifts of Imperfection turned you off from other books in this genre?
No but I very well could be turned off from other books by the author.
Would you be willing to try another one of Lauren Fortgang’s performances?
At some point I determined that it could potentially be the narrator's holier-than-though tone that was turning me off from this read.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
I'm struggling with the notion that her story could be so far from my reality that neither of us could be of benefit to the other.
Any additional comments?
I read this book as part of a book discussion at my job. Maybe that was the fatal flaw.

Historia
In How to Think: The Liberal Arts and Their Enduring Value, Professor Michael D. C. Drout gives an impassioned defense and celebration of the value of the liberal arts. Charting the evolution of the liberal arts from their roots in the educational system of Ancient Rome through the Middle Ages and to the present day, Drout shows how the liberal arts have consistently been "the tools to rule", essential to the education of the leaders of society. Offering a reasoned defense of their continuing value, Drout also provides suggestions for improving the state of the liberal arts in contemporary society.

Revisado: 10-18-16
What made the experience of listening to Modern Scholar: How to Think the most enjoyable?
There is something so satisfying about how Drout teaches you while teaching you. He takes the information he's sharing, throws in historical representations os the data and then rounds it out with full explanations of every bit of information he shares (even adding defining comments at the ends seemingly random rabbit holes and tangents). I'm always as amazed as I am enlightened.
