Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Top 3 sci-fi books of all time
Revisado: 07-05-23
I just finished it so the ending is still fresh on my mind and OMG it’s so perfect. The story is an emotional journey of constant hardship and strife against a universe trying to destroy humanity. To top it off our savior is a nerdy coward with the confidence of a skittish kitten. The science and thought put into the story was absolutely mind blowing clearly the author really cared about making the plot engaging. I would like to point out a couple of conveniences were of course taken but unfortunately we don’t live in 2223 so we don’t have that tech yet. The book really tries its best to explain things in detail and really inspire the reader to think of a universe where what they say is true with believable claims invoking real world physics! I absolutely loved the crazy plot twist in the middle too! Overall I’d highly recommend this book to anyone especially since it isn’t too long and the narrator has the perfect voice for the job.

Revisado: 06-02-23
You can really tell how much this subject means to the author, especially in the conclusion his emotions are conveyed in a way that resinated with passions in my own heart. The whole book is a beautiful walk on the line of fun, fascinating stories, and logical history based explanations. Over banger already talking to friends about it

Status signaling isn’t just the province of the immature or insecure but a fundamental human need to secure social standing. It drives our behavior, forms our tastes, determines what we buy, and ultimately shapes who we are. It’s what’s behind “cool” and what drives fashion, music, food, sports, slang, travel, hairstyles, and dog breeds—and even the outsize influence of unpopular things with the “right” audience.

Good info and interesting insight a bit lackluster storytelling though
Revisado: 12-29-22
I enjoyed a lot of the points the author pointed out and the narration was clear and concise. My only problem is with some of the examples chosen I felt they were a bit boring and some debatable on reasoning. Malcom gladwell does a similar style of half baked examples with good reasoning. Good book though worth a read.

Historia
Up to 40% of people consider themselves shy. You might say you're introverted or awkward, or that you're fine around friends but just can't speak up in a meeting or at a party. Maybe you're usually confident but have recently moved or started a new job, only to feel isolated and unsure. If you get nervous in social situations - meeting your partner's friends, public speaking, standing awkwardly in the elevator with your boss - you've probably been told, "Just be yourself!" But that's easier said than done - especially if you're prone to social anxiety.

Revisado: 09-06-22
I’m on a bit of a binge of these kinds of books just finished quiet ( smiled at the shoutout at the beginning) and went onto this. Anyone seeking out a book of this type is likely similar to me and you can likely predict my personality. I enjoyed the balance here of empowerment and self acceptance. The practical tools honestly stressed me out just listening to them but it’s only been a day and I tried 1 of them to a pleasant surprise so I look forward to applying more. Im going to use this along with others to write my own essay to clear my head and I couldn’t thank Ellen enough.

In A Mind for Numbers, Dr. Oakley lets us in on the secrets to learning effectively - secrets that even dedicated and successful students wish they’d known earlier. Contrary to popular belief, math requires creative, as well as analytical, thinking. Most people think that there’s only one way to do a problem, when in actuality, there are often a number of different solutions - you just need the creativity to see them.

Very valuable information although catered to students
Revisado: 03-23-22
I realize I’m in the minority of this books demographic however I’m not in school I’m learning on my own so several analogies and even an entire chapter in the end of test were meaningless to me. I will say there’s a lot of value in the information and tips nonetheless and would recommend for anyone learning difficult topics in STEM especially. I’d also recommend listening in segments because this book has a very structured almost directional approach and if your like me and have a tendency to mentally wonder this is a book to be split up not a road trip book. I really enjoyed it overall I think Barbara brought a lot of insight and applicable tools in my nevertheless quest for more knowledge.

Historia
In Super Bowl XLIX, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll made one of the most controversial calls in football history: With 26 seconds remaining, and trailing by four at the Patriots' one-yard line, he called for a pass instead of a handing off to his star running back. The pass was intercepted, and the Seahawks lost. Critics called it the dumbest play in history. But was the call really that bad? Or did Carroll actually make a great move that was ruined by bad luck? Even the best decision doesn't yield the best outcome every time.

An articulate way of describing complex decision making processes
Revisado: 10-27-21
Very often in this book I would find myself relating what Annie was talking about to my real life experiences that I just never thought through before. She puts in clear words these processes that are often done on intuition or often missed due to emotion. I thought it was a great book that was very well performed and I really appreciated her getting to the point often it didn’t feel drawn out at all and I thought the pacing was great. I’d recommend this book highly to those interested in the decision making process and how to be more conscious in their own decision making. Also the betting aspect is a very interesting and useful perspective

In a dazzling combination of both popular and groundbreaking science, he not only helps us grasp his often mind-boggling theories, but he also shares with us some of the often surprising triumphs and disappointments that have shaped his life as a scientist.

I really enjoyed it ( a little tough to listen while busy for me though)
Revisado: 09-22-21
I really liked how much detail he went into each subject and why he thought what he thought it’s very refreshing to show the organic process of coming to the opinion rather than stating it as fact with surface level reasoning. I will say though I typically can listen to books while I work but this one took a bit more concentration for me personally so I’d suggest just listening while driving or something but it might just be my lack of multitasking ability. To summarize as he does at the end of each chapter (which i enjoyed btw) yet another banger from Max.

In the civilian sector, books offer information on everything from fixing a leaky faucet to developing an effective workout program to cooking a good steak. Leadership Strategy and Tactics explains how to take leadership theory, quickly translate that theory into applicable strategy, and then put leadership into action at a tactical level. This audiobook is the solution that leaders at every level need.

Valuable information with fun and useful examples
Revisado: 07-24-21
The information was very direct and useful in real life while staying entertaining enough to keep my attention. My only complaint is although I really like jocko some parts might of been better narrated with a non blunt and extreme tone that is jocko. It gave some areas a very macho tone while the message was of humility it made it seem disingenuous and like it was just a useful facade.

Checks all the curiosity bubbles
Revisado: 07-13-21
Within this book Dawkins sets up some very interesting scenarios to help represent his points and ideas in a much more simple way, because of this I would have questions after each one and it’s like he could read my mind! It’s a very interesting book and put me in a much different mindset on what life is and how it changes with time. Overall I really liked the switching between two narrators I felt it helped keep the book from being able to just let go to the back of your head and not take in. However, some of the authors notes at the end of each chapter were a bit exhaustive but most of them added value. I think it’s a excellent book to those curious in how evolution works and why we evolve this a very interesting theory and I quite like it I’d highly recommend. I’d like to add it has some more philosophical delays that are fun to think about for those who are inclined to do so.

James Gleick, the author of the best sellers Chaos and Genius, now brings us a work just as astonishing and masterly: A revelatory chronicle and meditation that shows how information has become the modern era’s defining quality - the blood, the fuel, the vital principle of our world. The story of information begins in a time profoundly unlike our own, when every thought and utterance vanishes as soon as it is born.

It’s an excellent book made to be listened to closely.
Revisado: 06-22-21
First off I would recommend this book for those interested in the history of how information has changed humanity and the forms it has taken through time. I would say though that some sections in the middle are a little bit boring and I had to take breaks and switch to something else for a while so I could listen without loosing focus. That’s just James for you though! you can tell how much he values getting the details right just like his book chaos, they have very similar styles and structure. he’s a very good author and this book will definitely challenge some of your views while enlightening you to new perspectives on how information should be valued.
