He knew I was trouble the instant I showed up with a stolen Bengal tiger. But Grady McKnight didn't flinch like a sane person - he took us in. Bruce the tiger found shelter. I met a hero grump. And Grady got a hot mess. Namely, me. Born-to-sizzle single dads and rogue zoologists don't play nice. So freaking what if I said I'm his nanny? We needed a story when his two sweet daughters barged in. Hiding a contraband tiger isn't easy. Neither is pretending he isn't sending my pulse to pitter-patter heaven.

About time…
Revisado: 05-16-24
I don’t read or listen a lot of mature themed romance, I typically look for rom-com if I do. They are good palette cleansers after listening to intense suspense/thrillers. Most of these type books the FMCs are whiny, neurotic, and bitchy. So I can’t identify with them and I hope he runs as fast as he can from her crazy. Ugh. So it’s a rare occurrence, and pleasantly surprising, when she’s an intelligent, down to earth, kind person that’s not a narcissist.
Besides the likable characters you want to root for, the storyline is very good and unique arc. I enjoyed it as much as I did the romance trope.
The narration was great as well.
Highly recommended.

Had potential but…
Revisado: 05-06-24
I have to agreed the narration was lackluster, at best, kind of monotone, didn’t convey emotion. As far as the story, I disliked Brooke. Her passive aggressive insults to Seth came off mean girl-esqe. Seth should have run after the hateful things she said, he’s a person than me. Brooke’s personality was all over the place, I couldn’t get a sense of her character, like she was bipolar.
Seems Lauren’s books have a common trope of the male love interest is always villainized even though he usually straight about his feelings, and the female protagonist is kind of mean and emotional selfish. Yet he’s the one who has to apologize. I don’t get it. And even though they end up together in the end, it feels a little unsatisfying because the women are a little unhinged.

Some call him friend or boss. Some call him husband or dad. Some call him son, even a favorite son. But the only title that matters to him is the one the media has given him: the Poet. A name he earned from the written words he leaves behind after he kills that are as dark and mysterious as the reason he chooses his victims. One word, two, three, a story in a poem, a secret that only Detective Samantha Jazz can solve. Because, he’s writing this story for her.

Great narrators, Story is Okay
Revisado: 04-26-24
Great narrators, two of my favorites. But..the protagonist is so annoying, she’s kinda of a jerk. Female writers write the worst versions of women. Sam is the typical arrogant, too tough for help, rude, “the world revolves around me” female troupe. Her constant inter monologue of “something feels off” was more wrong than right. How was she able to consult with the FBI based on what exactly? There’s no way she’d pass the psych eval, she needs therapy. And why in the world would she inject epinephrine in the heart? He was passed out, OD…you don’t inject the heart.

All Around Excellent Audiobook
Revisado: 04-23-24
As any audiobook, the narrator can make or break it. This narrator does a superb job of bring the story to life with a skilled performance. The story itself brings new twists to the group of people stranded scenario. As the story moved forward I found myself changing my opinion of characters, rooting for some more than others and becoming emotional invested in their outcome. I know a lot of authors like to abruptly end novels leaving the reader unsatisfied and disheartened, but I like the ending. It was a good ending that didn’t leave me guessing but wanting, wanting to know more about their future.

Sending him to prison was the worst thing I could've done. It didn't matter that he did the crime or that I wished he was dead. Perhaps I thought I'd have time to disappear before he got out or he'd cool off in jail and be anything but the horror he was. But I was wrong. Three years came and went too fast, and now he's anything but calm. Prison only gave him time to plan. And while I anticipated his vengeance, I didn't expect this. He doesn't want to make me hurt. He wants to make everything hurt.

Disappointed, Damon was ruined for me.
Revisado: 01-05-24
It was the idea of the strong, alpha male and his inner conflict to accept her love which made the first book beloved and appreciated by women. Most women like the idea of the dangerous, sexy guy who will show his vulnerable side and live for & protect the girl he loves. It was the idea of the strong, alpha male and his inner conflict to accept her love which made the first book beloved and appreciated by women. Most women like the idea of the dangerous, sexy guy who will show his vulnerable side and live for & protect the girl he loves.
But the rest of the books seem to be circling the drain. Rika played it tough, but you knew she was still a girl & vulnerable, which made Michael’s love and need to protect her very appealing. I like Kai. He’s is a good guy and has similar alpha traits to Michael, but why Banks? Why do strong-willed women have to written as annoying b*tches? She got on my nerves, and I thought he deserved better. Her lack of self awareness grated after awhile. I had skip through some of her moronic ramblings. Plus I kept picturing this stinky, feral girl wondering if she bothered to brush her teeth. Ew.
Now, Damon had the making of a super hero, well, anti-hero. His tragic origin story, hides his inner goodness, yet he used fear tactics & intimidation to protect and hide his true feelings & vulnerability. I get Damon is messed up and he likes dirty, erotic sex, but even though he’s a broken man, he still had a loyal, moral compass hidden away. It’s one of the things that made him appealing, and kind of sexy. But the gay thing between him & Will ruined it, him taking advantage of his closest friend like that was just deviant, not even remotely sexy in the slightest. It just ruined the fantasy and seemed way out of character for him. I really wanted to fall for Damon, like I did with Michael. 😔
It’s interesting, you can always tell around which time frame/year a novel was written/published just by the pandering. I wonder if authors are forced to insert certain topics as to normalize them or just out of touch. 🤷♀️

Interesting, fun Storyline, but Horrible Protagonist
Revisado: 12-29-23
I really like the Deadwood mysteries, the actual mystery/supernatural portions of the story. However, I’m conflicted, the main character, Violet, is a horrible person, but I like the other characters and the supernatural elements. Violet is a sociopath aka ASPD. She’s has no self awareness, and is disrespectful, selfish and abusive to her friends. She never realizes her constant lying is why Cooper dislikes her. I think what irks me most is authors seem to think a strong woman equates to rude, trashy b*tch. Maybe she will redeem herself, because right now I couldn’t care less about her.

Historia
It's a week before Christmas, but Milwaukee bar owner Mackenzie "Mack" Dalton is hardly in good spirits. Chilled to the core by the murder of bouncer Gary Gunderson, Mack is determined to use her extra-perceptive senses to identify the gunman responsible. Did Gary's patchy past brew up some fatal trouble, or could his death be linked to a series of cryptic letters concocted by Mack's anonymous adversary? With a second case to crack, innocent lives at stake, and a media frenzy in their midst, Mack and her barstool detectives have little time to mull over the grim details.

Good story, unlikeable protagonist
Revisado: 11-21-23
I’ve enjoyed the mystery storylines in this series, however the main character has become more unlikeable as the series progressed. This seems to be an all too common misstep by authors, making the female protagonist either weak & whiny or an egotistical, rude hypocrite. Mack has become the latter. She’s so nasty to Duncan as if his life & job should revolve around hers. Hopefully she will redeem herself in the next book…or I’ll be rooting for the murder.

I really like this series. The characters are fun and quirky. I like the couples dynamic. You have to speed up the audio to appreciate the witty banter.
I just hope the author doesn’t go over the top with the old people’s silly antics, because they will become annoying.

When Special Agent Will Trent arrives in Grant County, he finds a police department determined to protect its own and far too many unanswered questions about a prisoner’s death. He doesn’t understand why Officer Lena Adams is hiding secrets from him. He doesn’t understand her role in the death of Grant County’s popular police chief. He doesn’t understand why that man’s widow, Dr. Sara Linton, needs him now more than ever to help her crack this case

Still Team Lena
Revisado: 06-29-22
Will Trent series is arguably one of the best book series I have read, and slightly better than the Grant County series only because there’s less Sara Linton. I thought the story was a great way to bring Will and Sara characters together again. Plus we get a chance to see Will work on his own with Amanda and Faith bossing him around constantly.
I was hoping Will would have been more understanding when it came to Lena and her mentality, but Sara’s irrational influence outweighed his ability to think for himself. Will Trent and Lena, both growing up in non-conventional homes and lacking families, in another world would have bonded them or fostered a deeper understanding of personal motivations, however Sara, again, convinced another person Lena is evil incarnate. In my opinion, Sara Linton is self righteous and narcissistic, and somehow supposed to be a representation of a strong women. However, she lacks empathy until it suits her in a public forum. She emasculates the men in her I life, then she complains about them not being stepping up or saying the right things. Ugh. So annoying. But don’t get me wrong the books are great, and Sara is a good character, except in her relationships, she irks me. All the characters are well developed and interesting, the cases are intense and exciting. Hopefully, Lena and Sara will one day bury the hatchet..in a good way, and not in each other.
