Historia
Some days Nora Nolan thinks that she and her husband, Charlie, lead a charmed life - except when there’s a crisis at work, a leak in the roof at home, or a problem with their twins at college. And why not? New York City was once Nora’s dream destination, and her clannish dead-end block has become a safe harbor, a tranquil village amid the urban craziness. Then one morning she returns from her run to discover that a terrible incident has shaken the neighborhood, and the fault lines begin to open: on the block, at her job, especially in her marriage.

The contrasts between humor and tragedy in life
Revisado: 04-19-25
I have no dislikes with this story. The author (Quinlan) never disappoints. I felt that the story was a reflection of the political climate of today and appreciated the way the story contrasted the almost caste society in our country. It’s a good story.

Carol is determined to mend her broken relationship with her mother. But she soon discovers she isn't the only one who has been hanging on to bitterness. A road trip to face the past leads Carol's mother, Judith, to unearth the seeds of past mistakes and deep resentments in ways neither of them would expect.

Reader sounds like a robot or AI
Revisado: 04-19-25
The book is a bit sappy and boring and the reader drove me insane at times. The story is so-so. Took some push to get through the entire book. Not my jam.

Cher: The Memoir, Part One promises to be an engaging and exciting audiobook experience, befitting this incredible book. Read in part by Cher herself, the book is introduced, and each chapter launched, by the author. Rounding out each chapter as she continues the narrative is celebrated stage actor Stephanie J. Block. Stephanie starred on Broadway in The Cher Show for which she won a Tony Award, Drama Desk Award, and Outer Critics Circle Award.

A story that rings true and honest
Revisado: 02-17-25
I loved everything about Cher’s story. She included the good, bad, and ugly with openness. She shares herself with her readers/listeners as if we have the right to enter into her private life. She is gracious and sometimes very funny as she delivers her personal journey to those of us on the outside looking in.

Historia
Widowed at forty, with four children and not enough money, Nora has lost the love of her life, Maurice, the man who rescued her from the stifling world to which she was born. And now she fears she may be drawn back into it. Wounded, strong-willed, clinging to secrecy in a tiny community where everyone knows your business, Nora is drowning in her own sorrow and blind to the suffering of her young sons, who have lost their father.

Impeccable writing
Revisado: 05-22-24
The writing is wonderful. The performance very good. The story somewhat slow and at times boring. Not my favorite of Toibin’s work but worth reading for the lyrical writing if nothing else.

Educational, entertaining, endearing
Revisado: 01-06-24
I loved the story, how it wove the past into the present and how the author succeeded in opening all the doors and windows of this couple’s lives to give the reader glimpses of what life had made of each of them. The psychological aspects of their past relationships and how impacted their current relationship with each other and their community was by the disappointments and hurts of the past were brilliantly and beautifully illustrated by this extremely talented author. It didn’t hurt that the narrator was brilliantly PERFECT in his telling of this memorable and relatable tale. I highly recommend this book to any serious reader.

Historia
Olivia McAfee knows what it feels like to start over. Her picture-perfect life—living in Boston, married to a brilliant cardiothoracic surgeon, raising their beautiful son, Asher—was upended when her husband revealed a darker side. She never imagined that she would end up back in her sleepy New Hampshire hometown, living in the house she grew up in and taking over her father’s beekeeping business. Lily Campanello is familiar with do-overs, too. When she and her mom relocate to Adams, New Hampshire, for her final year of high school, they both hope it will be a fresh start.

My Top Ten
Revisado: 10-16-22
I’m almost 66 years old and this book will ever reside in my top ten books list. Right now it holds place in the top five. I leave room for it to slide down a few notches as I plan to read until I cannot any longer, but I strongly suspect it will remain in my top five. And if you choose to listen instead of reading - boy, are YOU in for a treat! That’s all I have to say; so, read this book (or better yet have a listen!).

This is THE worst
Revisado: 10-12-22
I should have done my due diligence on this book. The characters are ridiculous and the plot is stupid. And to add insult to injury - the narrators are NAUSEATING. Partly “mommy porn” and partly just plain rubbish, if you are a serious reader DO NOT waste your precious time.

Historia
After moving from a small country town to Seattle, Heather Baxter marries Tom, a widowed doctor with a young son and teenage daughter. A working vacation overseas seems like the perfect way to bring the new family together, but once they’re deep in the Australian outback, the jet-lagged and exhausted kids are so over their new mom. When they discover remote Dutch Island, off-limits to outside visitors, the family talks their way onto the ferry. But as soon as they set foot on the island, which is run by a tightly knit clan of locals, everything feels wrong.
