Historia
This is the way the world ends: with a nanosecond of computer error in a Defense Department laboratory and a million casual contacts that form the links in a chain letter of death. And here is the bleak new world of the day after: a world stripped of its institutions and emptied of 99 percent of its people. A world in which a handful of panicky survivors choose sides - or are chosen.

The unabridged version is worth it
Revisado: 01-26-21
Excellent writing and storytelling overall. And the narrator is exceptional. Only two real complaints: 1) Waaaaay too much sexually oriented material. It was distracting and didn't contribute anything to the story. 2) I was shocked to see how overtly racist Stephen is. Wow. I don't blame him for writing stories out of own perspectives and experiences of the world. But this was seriously the Whitest story I've ever read.

Historia
What if the year we have long commemorated as America’s defining moment was in fact misleading? What if the real events that signaled the historic shift from colony to country took place earlier, and that the true story of our nation’s emergence reveals a more complicated - and divisive - birth process? In this major new work, iconoclastic historian and political chronicler Kevin Phillips upends the conventional reading of the American Revolution by puncturing the myth that 1776 was the struggle’s watershed year. Mythology and omission have elevated 1776, but the most important year, rarely recognized, was 1775.

Eye-opening history of the early Revolution
Revisado: 09-28-20
Although I was aware of events before 1776, I did not grasp -- until reading this book -- just how far events were already in motion. Nor did I realize how forward-thinking and powerful Samuel Adams was. I was aware of the siege of Boston, but it never really clicked that all of that was in full swing in 1775. We were truly already independent, after challenging Royal and Parliamentary authority in 1774; we just needed to make everyone realize it and embrace it. I look forward to finding a book about the Sons of Liberty and the Committees of Correspondence.

Historia
Perhaps the most important book on military strategy ever written, Carl von Clausewitz's On War has influenced generations of generals and politicians, has been blamed for the unprecedented death tolls, and is required reading at military academies to this day. But On War, which was never finished and was published posthumously, is obscure and fundamentally contradictory. Hew Strachan, one of the world's foremost military historians, answers these problems in this fascinating book.

Superb narration. Well-reasoned argument by an author who clearly appreciates the man without worshipping him.

Enjoyable for Elder Scrolls fans
Revisado: 12-22-17
The story is a nice addition to the Elder Scrolls series of games. Great for older teens (some passing sexual references, but nothing graphic). Narrator is really good, but just mispronounces some of the well-known names of places. But overall very well done.
