I was very moved by the different types of love and loss experienced by this warm cast of longtime friends. I’m not usually a fan of second-chance romances, but this one felt believable and fitting. It’s written in alternating First Person POV present tense, which makes for a very close psychological distance to the MCs’ feelings. So be prepared to be in your feelings.

I love this story! The authenticity and humanity of the characters is written so well. I’ve returned to this audiobook again and again since it was released. And it’s always a great day when you get to listen to Angela Dawe narrate an audiobook!

Adorable & Lighthearted

I really enjoyed this lighthearted romance of two pro-level athletes who have chemistry and connection. The characters’ flaws, personal struggles, and growth across their individual arcs felt realistic and relatable.

The story is told with alternating chapters of present time and flashbacks to 5 years ago in the characters’ past. I always find this approach to storytelling a challenge to maintain emotional connection to the characters and maintaining orientation to the circumstances in each timeline. But by the mid-way point, I was able to stay rooted in both timeline narratives and could appreciate the way this approach allows for purposeful revelation of the characters’ journey to the present time.

Cat Gould on narration is always a winner in my book. It was great to hear a native Aussie accent, and she does an excellent American accent. I definitely recommend this story for a lighthearted, low-angst romance set in the world of pro football/soccer.

Chemistry Among the Cast

This novel delivered well-developed story arcs for each MC. The complications they experienced felt realistic and relatable. There was great chemistry amongst the MCs and cast of secondary characters. This book has a warm tenderness to it that brings me back on a regular basis. And Anastasia Watley does a wonderful job delivering that tenderness to listeners.

I really enjoyed this audiobook! Erica Lee artfully weaves a clever “toaster oven” queer awakening story that our baby gay selves would’ve appreciated. Lori Prince always finds the funny for us, but also gently delivers the profound moments in between them.

One of the best audiobooks!

This is one of the best audiobooks I’ve ever listened to! Ever! Do you remember what it felt like when you first saw your favorite adventure movie? That’s it! That’s the feeling I had as I listened to A Kiss Doesn’t Lie. Abby Craden showed her breadth of acting skills, yet again, as she narrated this large cast of characters in all their idiosyncrasies. This audiobook is 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ across the board, hands down.

Rich & Vivid

This story is full of rich, vivid imagery. It’s hard to believe it’s only a novella in length because it carries you along on what feels like a much longer journey. The pacing is consistent and this story comes to a natural and satisfying conclusion. Abby Craden’s narration of this entire series is wonderful…no surprise there! You’ll be primed to jump straight into Book 4 of this fantastic Shapeshifter Series, True Nature.
