Enlightening
Revisado: 12-20-24
What an incredible life he has had!! I love almost any book read by the author, and this one is no different.
If you are a fan of his, you need to listen and if you don’t like him, you really should listen! He is a real person and shares his story!
My only beef is that this is an abridged version!! That the only reason it didn’t get 5 stars all around!!

Historia
Often in a van, sometimes in a bus, occasionally in a car with broken wipers "using Bob's belt and a rope found by Paddy's Pond" to pull them back and forth, Alan and his bandmates charted new territory, and he constantly measured what he saw of the vast country against what his forefathers once called the Daemon Canada. In a period punctuated by triumphant leaps forward for the band, deflating steps backward, and everything in between.

Healing the Shame That Binds You is the most enduring work of family relationship expert and New York Times best-selling author John Bradshaw. Outdated practice and borderline judgemental
Revisado: 08-26-21
I read the book back in the mid-1990’s and recently listened to the audiobook.
His perspective is that of a Christian and I having been raised Catholic, I could relate to what he was saying and the connection to God and prayer and meditation but in the 20+ years since, I’ve moved away from my religious tradition and this book seems very focused on the religious aspect as the only way to heal.
I’ve more recently been listening to Richard Schwartz and Besell van der Kolk and a belief in God and having a connection to a religious tradition is not required or even necessary to heal. So much scientific study has been done on healing trauma and shame, that this book, even though updated in the last 10 years, feels very outdated and judgemental.

Historia
Trauma is a fact of life. Veterans and their families deal with the painful aftermath of combat; one in five Americans has been molested; one in four grew up with alcoholics; one in three couples have engaged in physical violence. Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, one of the world’s foremost experts on trauma, has spent more than three decades working with survivors. In The Body Keeps the Score, he uses recent scientific advances to show how trauma literally reshapes both body and brain, compromising sufferers’ capacities for pleasure, engagement, self-control, and trust.

Revisado: 08-15-21
Anyone who has experienced any kind of trauma should read/listen to this book. If you haven’t e person Ed any trauma I. Your life, you are very lucky but you should read/listen to this book too!
Therapy based on research..... as he learns more, he changes what he does! When something interests him, he does the research! The insurance industry won’t like this because there are real ways to change patters and cure some mental illness without long term use of pharmaceuticals! So sad to see that making money is more important that the good of all Americans!
My only disappointment is that Dr. Van der Kolk did not provide the audio!
