I adore Queen Betsy, but this book fell short
Revisado: 02-14-25
Usually I giggle and laugh all the way through the Queen Betsy books, but I feel the author just phoned this one in. It seemed repetative of the other books. The narrator - who is fabulous in books 1 to 15 - fell completely flat. It was like listening to a totally different narrator. The voices were off, and that just made the whole thing torturous. I really wish I hadn't bothered with this book at all. It completely ruined the experience from 1 to 15. My thoughts only, but this should have been left undone.

One of the best Podcasts I've found
Revisado: 05-26-24
Love the podcast. It is very detailed. The sound effects are awesome and drag you even further into the story. The only reason I gave 4 stars overall is because of the introductory music. It is waaaay tooooo loooong, screechy and excessively unpleasent. I have to fast forward through it every time. Other than that, I love it!

Historia
As dusk approaches a small Dublin suburb in the summer of 1984, mothers begin to call their children home. But on this warm evening, three children do not return from the dark and silent woods. When the police arrive, they find only one of the children gripping a tree trunk in terror, wearing blood-filled sneakers, and unable to recall a single detail of the previous hours. Twenty years later, the found boy, Rob Ryan, is a detective on the Dublin Murder Squad and keeps his past a secret.

Revisado: 11-06-17
This was a struggle from about the third hour in. BORING and drawn out. Never answered all questions. I listened to the whole thing (a battle of will, believe me) out of sheer frustration and determination. I wanted to know what happened to the two lost children. Please don't waste your time.

Don't Do It!!
Revisado: 10-27-15
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
I was terribly disappointed in this "reimagined" book. Given a word processor and a copy of "Twilight", I or anyone else could have written this book. Fans have waited for years for Midnight Sun, but instead, this is what we get. Too disappointing for words.
Has Twilight Tenth Anniversary/Life and Death Dual Edition turned you off from other books in this genre?
No. One authors lazy attempt to make some quick cash with little effort cant spoil an entire genre.
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
The narrator was great, and did the best he could with a lame story.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Twilight Tenth Anniversary/Life and Death Dual Edition?
ALL of it.
Any additional comments?
I love the Twilight Saga, and was hoping this story would play out to be at least entertaining. Instead, it is just painful. A few word and phrase switches, different genders for most of the characters... LAME. I hate to say that, because Twilight Saga was so fascinating. I repeat myself, but I do feel this is just a sad attempt to make a quick buck with minimal effort. The greatest thing she could have done for her fans (if she considers us at all anymore) would have been to complete and release Midnight Sun. I think that's what we all want. It isn't our fault that someone leaked the first few chapters without her knowledge, but we are the ones being punished!

Historia
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.

Yes, I would.

Mark is the character you spend most time with. He is intelligent and engaging.

Any additional comments?
Not my usual type of book (I prefer zombies, murder and mayhem), but I was enthralled from start to finish.

I Just Love Angel!
Revisado: 07-21-14
What did you love best about How the White Trash Zombie Got Her Groove Back?
Angel is totally adorable, adventurous, and smarter than she thinks. She thinks of herself as less than average, but she comes up with solutions to problems that would never have crossed my mind!
What did you like best about this story?
Just listening to Angel adapt to her situation.
What does Allison McLemore bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Love her southern accent. I'm from the south, too, and we actually talk like that.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, but I couldn't. I did finish it in two days, though!
Any additional comments?
Funny spin on the usual zombie tale, so start at the beginning of the series!

End of a wonderful era!
Revisado: 05-11-13
What made the experience of listening to Dead Ever After the most enjoyable?
All the loose ends were neatly tied up. I like that in a series.
What other book might you compare Dead Ever After to and why?
Sookie stands alone. No one comes close.
What does Johanna Parker bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
She has the most amazing tones and inflections. You can literally "see" what she is talking about!
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Totally satisfied with the ending, and the man of Sookie's choice. I had kind of expected it, I knew they were perfect for each other.

Would you consider the audio edition of Undead and Underwater to be better than the print version?
Never "read" it.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Betsy, of course. Fred was also interesting.
Which character – as performed by Nancy Wu – was your favorite?
Again, I gotta say Betsy. I love her.
Any additional comments?
Anything written by MJD entitled "Undead..." SHOULD BE TOTALLY ABOUT BETSY AND HER ENTOURAGE. I'm just sayin'...

Victoria McQueen has an uncanny knack for finding things: a misplaced bracelet, a missing photograph, answers to unanswerable questions. When she rides her bicycle over the rickety old covered bridge in the woods near her house, she always emerges in the places she needs to be. Vic doesn't tell anyone about her unusual ability, because she knows no one will believe her. She has trouble understanding it herself.

Extremely good read!
Revisado: 05-07-13
Would you listen to NOS4A2 again? Why?
Yes, but not any time soon. It is a haunting tale that I want to savor a while before I delve back into the drama.
What did you like best about this story?
It was twisted and convuleted, kept me guessing.
What about Kate Mulgrew’s performance did you like?
She did a great job with the different voices. You could tell which character was speaking without being told. I like that in a narrator.
If you could take any character from NOS4A2 out to dinner, who would it be and why?
Vic. She is one tough b#$%&!
Any additional comments?
Get it, read it. It is not as good as Heart Shaped Box (which I highly reccomend - it is an amazing book) but MUCH better than Horns. Joe Hill is the son of Stephen King (my all time favorite author), so you really can't go wrong. The apple doesn't fall, etc...
