I did not fall in immediate love with Jane but it did not take me long to start feeling pangs of affection and well before the end of Book One I was a goner. Jeremy made me love every single character - even Steve… especially Steve - and make sounds of distress at their demise (spoiler alert: NOT everyone dies). Thanks, Jeremy. I love your worldview. And I ❤️ Gertrude.

Top 5
Revisado: 08-26-24
With only one exception (Torment I'm looking at you) I have enjoyed every one of Jeremy Robinson's books. But within any large body of work there are bound to be ups and downs, favorites and also rans. Good Boys has just moved into the top 5.
If you love dogs, you're bound to love this book. If you don't love dogs, your opinion is bound to change by the end of it. Funny, fast-paced, action-packed - there's something for everyone. It's even got a little romance!
And let me add that the narrator is absolutely top notch. There wasn't a single sour note. Great voices, great understanding - even his Japanese pronunciation was good!
Highly recommend, 12/10

Origin story
Revisado: 04-19-24
I’ve only listened to one other Chess Team book (so far) but I can imagine this “Book 0” offering will be a kick in the pants for long time fans. Seeing how the team develops, having well-known and beloved characters arrive on stage from separate origins and coming together to form the beginnings of a family… that’s pure gold.
We were well into the story before any SF or supernatural stuff showed up, but show up it did and things got wild. This was a fun, fast read and I highly recommend it.

In the heart of the South Pacific lies Point Nemo, the most desolate and remote place on Earth. At its core is a dead zone, devoid of life, where government agencies crash their obsolete satellites and space stations, confident they won't harm a soul. When the International Space Station suffers a catastrophic failure and plummets through the atmosphere, it's here that Mission Specialist Julie Rohr, an astrobiologist studying living space dust called xylem, finds herself marooned. Julie's only hope for rescue lies in the hands of her estranged father, Dr. Finn Maddern, a renowned mycologist.

Mushrooms are scary
Revisado: 04-17-24
Jeremy Robinson always manages to bring the end of a book back around to the beginning and seamlessly splice them together into a cohesive whole.
The two things I love best about his books: not a lot of unnecessary angst and no plot-critical conflicts that could be solved with a simple question or five minutes of conversation. Also they’re fast-paced and deliriously fun,

Stellar as per usual
Revisado: 01-31-24
This stand alone novel is so much fun - and even more if you’ve read the alternate universe Nemesis series. It’s great to see old and beloved names popping up, just in passing or in starring roles.
I wondered how he could take the same essential story and characters and create something more than just a second-rate rehash. I needn’t have worried.
Adventure, monsters, bad guys, monsters, love, redemption, and non-stop action. Did I mention monsters?

Lincoln Miller, an ex-Navy SEAL turned NCIS special agent, is sent to Aquarius, the world’s only sub-oceanic research facility, located off the Florida Keys, to investigate reports of ocean dumping. A week into his stay, strange red flakes descend from the surface. Scores of fish are dead and dying, poisoned by the debris that turns to powder in Miller’s fingers and tastes like blood. Miller heads for the surface, ready to fight whoever is polluting on his watch. But he finds nothing. No ships. No polluters.... No oxygen.

He absolutely does not disappoint. Action, aliens, mysterious beings, twisty plotlines, well-developed characters. There is nothing two-dimensional about any of his writing. You're in for a treat.

A lovely story
Revisado: 09-21-21
This book always falls within my top ten list of favorites. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
On the other hand, the wooden performance by the narrator makes it almost, in places, unlistenable. If I weren’t so thoroughly charmed by the story and characters already I’m not sure I would’ve been able to hear how wonderful it is through the barrier of the narration

I see dead people. No, not like that movie. I’m a coroner, and yes it's the kiss of death on my dating life. When men find out what I do, I'm lucky to hear, “It was nice meeting you”. Until I almost accidentally kill Blake Hale with my car. Instead of being freaked out by me, he’s intrigued. No matter how much I try to scare him off, he keeps coming back for more. And for a follow-the-rules guy, he’s breaking them all for me.

Say it right…

HaP-hazard, not haF-hazard.
Otherwise both narrators were good. I almost quit about 3/4 of the way through due to overwhelming stupidity on the heroine’s part but managed to stick with it through her return to sanity.

My name is Charlotte Locke, and I’m an analyst for Section 47, a secret government agency that tracks terrorists, criminals, and other paramortal bad guys who want to unleash their abilities on an unsuspecting mortal world. I have a magical form of synesthesia that senses danger and uncovers lies - making me a stealthy operative. I’m trudging through another day when one of Section’s cleaners - assassins - takes an interest in me. I don’t need my synesthesia to realize that he is extremely dangerous.

5star/1star narrators
Revisado: 03-10-21
The story itself was fine. Just... fine. There was a lot of telling us instead of showing us at the end - monologuing by both the good guys and the bad guys.
Helen Laser was a wonderful narrator and her Aussie accent for the male lead was spot on.
Grant Cartwright has the oddest, stilted, choppy reading style and his version of the male lead was read with a vague, pseudo-British accent. Not a hint of Australia in it - which is where the character hailed from.
It was a generally acceptable listen, a suitable distraction. C’s all around except for Helen Laser who earned an A+.
