Good, but why waste time creating abridged books?

The story is ok and well performed, but I just don't understand why publishers waste time creating abridged books. By not needing to use your eyes, your reading time is greatly expanded. Abridging is a travesty to begin with - even made worst by doing it on this format...and then not even offering the unabridged version. I don't see how any abridged book can get higher than a mediocre rating.

Couldn't make it past the first hour...

It's a little hard to follow, but that would not get it such a low rating alone. Many fiction books use vaguely true science & facts behind the fictional stories. It helps the reader relate and they enjoy the books better.
Unless you enjoy the fantastically bad science like that pushed by Algore, you'll find this book offensive. It attempts to demonize any capitalistic or conservative principle it can.
Maybe this will give Franken and Gore some new 'references' since they seem willing to draw on fiction for their 'science' and 'economic' discussions, but most normal and moderately well informed individuals will find this hard to read (that is unless you prefer a story to continuously call up 'down', black 'white' and similarly backwards thought throughout a story).
