Historia
In August 1897, the young Belgian commandant Adrien de Gerlache set sail for a three-year expedition aboard the good ship Belgica with dreams of glory. His destination was the uncharted end of the earth: the icy continent of Antarctica. But de Gerlache’s plans to be first to the magnetic South Pole would swiftly go awry. After a series of costly setbacks, the commandant faced two bad options: turn back in defeat and spare his men the devastating Antarctic winter, or recklessly chase fame by sailing deeper into the freezing waters.

Fascinating, Harrowing, Well Researched.
Revisado: 03-14-22
A great historical retelling of early Antarctic exploration and a truly amazing story. While not quite as gripping as the sory of Earnest Shackleton's Endurance, this book feels like a very honest depiction of the original Antarctic-voyage-gone-wrong. The Author's seemingly well researched and fair handed approach steers clear of the kind of hero worship that many other similar types of accounts can be guilty of.
The narrator is a bit over-the-top at times and it can be distracting.

Historia
A revolution brewing for generations has begun in fire. It will end in blood. The Free Navy - a violent group of Belters in black-market military ships - has crippled the Earth and begun a campaign of piracy and violence among the outer planets. The colony ships heading for the thousand new worlds on the far side of the alien ring gates are easy prey, and no single navy remains strong enough to protect them. James Holden and his crew know the strengths and weaknesses of this new force better than anyone.

Different Pace Than Previous Books But Still Good
Revisado: 04-30-21
I see a lot of negative reviews for this book calling it the worst in the series and I don't agree.
Yes, it really should have been named 'Nemisis Games: Part II' but that doesn't make the book boring, full of filler, or inconsistent with the previous books.
Since this book focuses on a solar system wide war, there is definitely less of the high concept sci-fi and more politics and logistics so maybe that's what some readers don't like.
I thought it was a needed conclusion to the previous book and it sets up the remaining books well (I hope).

Historia
The fifth book in the NYT best-selling Expanse series, Nemesis Games drives the crew of the Rocinante apart, and as they struggle to survive, the inner planets fall victim to an enemy's catastrophic plan. A thousand worlds have opened, and the greatest land rush in human history has begun. As wave after wave of colonists leave, the power structures of the old solar system begin to buckle. Ships are disappearing without a trace. Private armies are being secretly formed. The sole remaining protomolecule sample is stolen.

Different than the others, but no less good.
Revisado: 04-13-21
This entry in the Expanse series takes a bit of a different structure than the previous books and it is better off for it. We get the satisfying return of several side characters from previous books as well a deeper dive into the back stories and of the 4 main crew members.

Historia
In The End Is Always Near, Dan Carlin looks at questions and historical events that force us to consider what sounds like fantasy; that we might suffer the same fate that all previous eras did. Will our world ever become a ruin for future archaeologists to dig up and explore? The questions themselves are both philosophical and like something out of The Twilight Zone.

Dan Carlin's Greatest Hits
Revisado: 12-02-19
For fans of Dan Carlin's popular podcast: Hardcore History, The End Is Always Near feels like listening to a greatest hits album put out by your favorite band.
Many of the stories, themes, and conjecture are familiar but they have been strung together in a new way. For listeners that are new to Dan Carlin's works this book will be a brief but thorough introduction to the thoughtful, empathetic and dark-yet-playful approach that makes Carlin so enthralling.

The French Revolution: A Captivating Guide to the Ten-Year Revolution in France and the Impact Made by Napoleon Bonaparte

Historia
Few historical events are as greatly revered and entirely misunderstood as the French Revolution that began in 1789. The memory of this complicated and lengthy political, violent uprising has been generally painted in broad - and oversimplified - strokes. While the French Revolution was certainly centered around two lavish monarchs and an enlightened common class, there was so much more going on behind the scenes.

Good, but in a Non-chronological Format.
Revisado: 05-13-19
I wanted a brief overview of the French revolution and I was not disappointed. However, early on in the book the narrator suggests referencing a timeline that is provided in the printed book, because the chapters are structured by topic rather than by chronological order. This approach works well for presenting a concise review of a complicated point in in history but it does not lend itself to the audiobook format particularly well.

Historia
This is the first volume in a bold new series that tells the stories of all peoples, connecting historical events from Europe to the Middle East to the far coast of China, while still giving weight to the characteristics of each country. Susan Wise Bauer provides both sweeping scope and vivid attention to the individual lives that give flesh to abstract assertions about human history. This narrative history employs the methods of "history from beneath" - literature, epic traditions, private letters, and accounts - to connect kings and leaders with the lives of those they ruled.

Very Well Narrated
Revisado: 05-06-19
I feel that this book provided a good review of ancient world history from a bird's eye view. the focus is largely on major world empires spending most of the time in Egypt, Persia, China, India, Greece and Rome.
While I don't have much to compare it to, I felt like the narrator did a great job with the pronunciation of the hundreds of different names and places that are in long dead languages.

Historia
There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

B+: Fun, Unique, but not very well written.
Revisado: 11-29-17
Overall, I liked it and found it pretty captivating. I enjoyed the unique and twisting story and would love to see a TV adaptation. The narrator is pretty good although his female characters don't sound great. The pacing isn't great - it takes quite a while to get interesting, and the dialogue rarely feels natural. That being fun it's still very fun and memorable.
