Following this book has changed my life
Revisado: 09-02-24
I was always so creative as a kid - drawing everything, and writing poetry like it was my job. I don’t know when it happened, but I eventually decided that was kid stuff I needed to leave behind. I have spent many years in hustle mode for my business and everything else I did, too. I didn’t even have a hobby. The Artist’s Way gave me the courage and curiosity to start creating again and leave hustle culture behind. I just finished the book, and I’m already painting, writing and publishing books, writing poetry, and cooking beautiful dishes every week. I will be recommending this book to everyone I know from now on. I’m grateful to have discovered it!

Years ago, after suffering a humiliatingly large dumb tax, it dawned on me that I have a seemingly unlimited ability to hit unforced errors and sabotage my business and financial success. I suspect you do, too. It turns out that the key to getting rich (and staying that way) is to avoid doing stupid things. I don't need to do more smart things. I just need to make fewer dumb mistakes. The vast majority of our dumb tax is a direct result of emotional, overly optimistic, and poorly thought out decisions.

Loaded with topics for transformational business thinking
Revisado: 11-26-23
This book contains insights on highly valuable topics from a leader who has seen huge failures as well as huge successes. There’s a lot here to spend more time with for even more value. You get what you invest into the process with this one.
Listening on Audible made the format sound longer or repetitive but I can imagine the physical book would be easy to reference as needed. Lots of good stuff. The “One More Thing…” chapter is powerful!!

I have been working with a coach that has helped me with goal setting and prioritization of tasks so some of this was a review for me. This book lays a solid foundation for establishing organizational systems and recognizing that disorganized environments are often a sign of something else under the surface. I recommend reading if you are regularly overwhelmed with tasks and want to do something about it!

Revisado: 12-13-22
This is now one of my favorite books. It’s short but holds more value per sentence than most business books out there. The last chapter has a powerful summary that makes it easier to remember and apply learnings. Thank you for writing this book, Sims!

I disabled most notifications on my phone and immediately noticed how my focused has increased. Understanding how much I have been distracted by both internal and external triggers is a big step toward becoming Indistractable! Thank you for writing this book, Nir!

Hard to relate as a founder who identifies as the integrator role
Revisado: 04-28-19
This book has been recommended and praised by many of my fellow business leaders so I was excited to listen. I knew I would align with the integrator role based on my skills and preferences, and even just a couple of chapters in, it was very obvious that I am not a visionary - despite being a founder.
However, I am four chapters in, and I feel like this book is geared toward helping the visionary person versus the integrator person and there is an assumption that integrators are always the second in command and not founders. I kept waiting to hear something that gave advice for a founder integrator but so far that hasn’t happened.
Another factor of the book that makes me feel like it’s not for me is the writing style - it’s very repetitive in summarizing the descriptions of each role several times. I am sure the visionaries listening to this book need that (since according to the book, they are often distracted and get bored easily). This prompted me to increase the listening speed to try to get to some “meat” sooner, but I’ve lost interest and don’t plan to finish the book.
Overall, this book is probably great for visionaries looking for their integrator, but if you are the operations person - the process and policies type that loves the details - your best bet for getting value from this book is to give it as a gift to the visionary in your life and hope they apply its principles.

Revisado: 01-04-19
The Pumpkin Plan was easy for me to begin to apply to my business even before I finished the book. I’m getting clear on what services and clients we should be focusing our efforts on. It was easy to start but this process isn’t for the faint of heart. It involves some tough choices. I am already able to see the difference in my business - well, mostly in my mindset.
The author referred to “the one nut guy” and a few other analogies that are clearly geared towards a male audience almost in every chapter, but even so, this book was engaging, useful, and immediately applicable.
