Wonderful love story
Revisado: 09-02-24
I enjoyed the story of God’s redemption and faithful love in difficult circumstances. Lynn Austin does a great job of character development.

Historia
We're all infected with a spiritual disease. Its name is shame. Whether we realize it or not, shame affects every aspect of our personal lives and vocational endeavors. It seeks to destroy our identity in Christ, replacing it with a damaged version of ourselves that results in unhealed pain and brokenness. But God is telling a different story for your life. Psychiatrist Curt Thompson unpacks the soul of shame, revealing its ubiquitous nature and neurobiological roots. He also provides the theological and practical tools necessary to dismantle shame.

Life changing!
Revisado: 05-13-22
This book is a revelation! So much grace...to see God's heart toward His people, how He loves us, and His invitation to come out of the hiding (from ourselves, from others, and from Him) to receive healing. The way that Dr. Thompson unpacks the verse, "...who, for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame...." was life-changing and such an encouragement. Our human condition tells us one of two things about shame: 1) that it's true, and/or 2) that the presence of shame is somehow a sign of weakness. NO! Shame is a part of the human condition, and even Jesus had to contend with it.

Continues the growth!
Revisado: 05-13-22
This book is a sequel to "Sensible Shoes", and really develops the characters and the relationships between them much more fully. So much insight and so powerful to see women take the risks necessary to become vulnerable, challenge preconceived notions about themselves, each other, and God; it challenged me to do the same.

The power of community!
Revisado: 05-13-22
I really enjoyed this novel, and was so encouraged by the power of community and vulnerability, as I found myself falling in love with, and developing empathy for, each of the characters. I learned so much about myself from their journeys, and was able to resonate with their struggles toward self-acceptance and yielding control to God.

Historia
The hardscrabble folks of Troublesome Creek have to scrap for everything - everything except books, that is. Thanks to Roosevelt's Kentucky Pack Horse Library Project, Troublesome's got its very own traveling librarian, Cussy Mary Carter. Cussy's not only a book woman, however, she's also the last of her kind, her skin a shade of blue unlike most anyone else. Not everyone is keen on Cussy's family or the Library Project, and a Blue is often blamed for any whiff of trouble.

Just lovely!
Revisado: 05-13-22
This has been one of my favorite novels in a very long time! I always enjoy historical fiction, but I felt as though I learned so much and enjoyed the story...and absolutely fell in love with the main character! Such important lessons about purpose and self-acceptance and empathy and resilience! This book has been a wonderful gift!

Such a help!
Revisado: 05-13-22
This book is beautifully insightful and grace-filled! As a therapist, and a friend to some in difficult marriages, I had a bit of a preconceived notion regarding the content of this book. I was so wrong! Really encouraging and instructive regarding how to discern the difference between disappointing marriages and destructive ones. So empowering to learn how to keep your integrity in-tact when dealing with this type of all-consuming circumstance.
