Historia
While the North prevailed in the Civil War, ending slavery and giving the country a "new birth of freedom," Heather Cox Richardson argues in this provocative work that democracy's blood-soaked victory was ephemeral. The system that had sustained the defeated South moved westward and there established a foothold. It was a natural fit. Settlers from the East had for decades been pushing into the West, where the seizure of Mexican lands at the end of the Mexican-American War and treatment of Native Americans cemented racial hierarchies....

The Root of the Problem
Revisado: 07-20-20
HCR does a remarkable job of tracing the roots of the American Oligarchy without regard for political party but rather following the ideology where it leads. I am constantly challenged by the contradiction between the glorified history of America I was taught in school in the 1960s, 70s, and 80s and what I now know to be true because of where it has led us. I became a fan of the author by subscribing to her, Letters from an American on her Facebook page. Check it out for a review of daily events from the perspective of a historian.

Insightful
Revisado: 09-09-19
Full disclosure I know and work with the author, but that doesn’t minimize the insight Jim brings to the topic of how important the consistency and delivery of your message is to acquiring, expanding, and keeping customers. The stories Jim share of real situations will resonate and elicit more that a couple of chuckles. Jim shares techniques and tools that are quickly becoming the standards that the best of the best companies employ to insure consistency in how they communicate with customers and prospects. Highly recommended.

With authoritative reporting honed through eight presidencies from Nixon to Obama, author Bob Woodward reveals in unprecedented detail the harrowing life inside President Donald Trump’s White House and precisely how he makes decisions on major foreign and domestic policies. Woodward draws from hundreds of hours of interviews with firsthand sources, meeting notes, personal diaries, files, and documents. The focus is on the explosive debates and the decision-making in the Oval Office, the Situation Room, Air Force One, and the White House residence.

Scary
Revisado: 09-19-18
There is no question in my mind that this is a well documented and accurate representation. The entire book recounts conversations and interactions with Trump and his inner circle. I’m not going to represent myself as a Trump supporter because I am not, but there are moments when Trump seems like he could be a brilliant madman, but he treats the country like he’s playing a board game and he is willing to accept way too much risk that ultimately we will all pay for if he makes a wrong move. He also has a clear character flaw in that he can not seem to tell the truth and he is prone to wild exaggerations. Fear is what he is trying to use as leverage against other world leaders, but people’s reaction to fear is unpredictable. Trump’s been lucky so far, but one wrong move or one wrong reaction from abroad and we are in a world of hurt.
