But soon after settling in, Megan begins to notice cracks in the neighborhood's bright suburban facade - cracks that reveal a darker secret hidden just beneath the surface. After an angry encounter with a neighbor takes a horrifying turn, Megan's waking nightmare truly begins.

Amazing until it wasn’t
Revisado: 04-11-23
I was stoked to read this and was even more excited once the story got moving. The twist right in the beginning had me so excited for the many ways this book could go, an original idea that I had yet to read in another book. And the book stayed so strong, keeping me interested until suddenly, it just resolved so quickly and in such an anticlimactic way. I was 15 minutes from the end and honestly had to make myself finish the last fifteen minutes which did nothing to improve my disappointment. I really did love the hook up until the end, I don’t really know what I wanted to happen, but it wasn’t that.

Historia
Two words: the bullet. That's all it takes to shatter her life. Caroline Cashion is beautiful, intelligent, a professor of French literature. But in a split second, everything she's known is proved to be a lie. A single bullet, gracefully tapered at one end, is found lodged at the base of her skull. Caroline is stunned. It makes no sense: She has never been shot. She has no entry wound, no scar. Then, over the course of one awful evening, she learns the truth.

Other than the romance…
Revisado: 12-26-22
The book was enjoyable to listen too. I definitely enjoyed the book and was even surprised at a point I did not think I could be. I feel that the book definitely could have gone without the romance though. I didn’t like the behavior of the male lead at all or at any point, and other than his profession aiding her discovery, I didn’t find him necessary, at least in a romantic way. I didn’t gain anything from their interactions and it would have been a cool opportunity to make the female lead more unique. She was set up perfectly to be a beautiful, elegant spinster. I think it would have been more interesting that way.

Do not understand the complaints...
Revisado: 04-02-22
This is a fantasy novel, the first I've read in a very long time. I don't understand the poor reviews that are upset that it's not written by somebody who sounds like they're 75 and don't believe in love. Of course it's going to be fantastical! that being said, I encourage you to disregard the poor reviews and give it a go. I haven't been interested in fantasy in a long time in this reminded me why I liked it so much. I can't wait to find out what happens and I've already bought the second book.

Heartbreaking and captivating... however
Revisado: 03-23-22
I really like this book, I hesitated to read it because I knew how sad it would be from some of the other reviews, but I really is worth reading. I enjoyed the characters and I enjoyed the character development, I was so happy with the ups and sad with the downs. I definitely recommend this book, I do struggle a little bit with the ending though. I remember thinking that it was really good but I wish that there had been some sort of epilogue, and then I realized there was! And although it gave a little bit of insight that I was looking for, it seemed to end just as abruptly as the first ending. I just wish there had been a little bit more to it, but I do appreciate some of the insight that was given.

Slow Starting but intriguing
Revisado: 03-16-22
I like this book enough, I think I was really interesting storyline though I would be lying to say I didn't predict the ending about halfway through if not a little bit sooner. but that doesn't mean I didn't want to finish it to make sure that I got it right! the only reason I rated the narration a little bit lower was not because of the narrator herself, but because I didn't like it when they had scenes of them being on the phone and having their voices altered to sound as such. it made it a little bit difficult to hear especially if I was driving while listening.
Other than that I thought it was a decent book, I did struggle to keep my attention from time to time, but I always would rewind because there are some components you don't want to miss. I would say give it a go if you're looking for something to occupy your time!
