Historia
The United States, Russia, China, and other countries around the world have experienced contact with the phenomenon, as we will discover in War. Americans demand that their leaders reveal what they know. They demand disclosure. But what do our allies, and our enemies, know about the phenomenon and why have they not already disclosed? Why is this an international issue, and not just an American one? And what does that tell us about the phenomenon?

Not like the other books
Revisado: 01-05-25
I'm beyond disappointed. And I'm sorry to say my view of the honesty, intentions, truth, and validity of the authors is forever changed. Someone should have edited the content as they repeat, repeat, repeat so much of the information. Gradually the last half of the book turns into a political rant which could have been avoided. Some of the mispronunciations of words matches contemporary glitches with AI. Did the narrator GPT his homework? I thought about asking for a refund but did not. Dang; I'm still bummed; I invested a lot of time and thought into these books.

Head fake - Book 6 was the end of the series
Revisado: 02-10-21
This is no way to treat a loyal, paying audience; we deserve better than this. Larry did not write this book. The 'co-author' replaced a history of fun characters and stories with a whiney, weak, sophomoric anti-female protagonist matched with obvious 'out of character' narration. Bailey Carr's voice and tempo are a complete mismatch for a hardened, southern country girl monster hunter. If Larry cared about his art or fans, he would have stopped this production. After buying over 300 audible books, this is my 1st return. Oh, forgot to mention "my baby, my baby, my baby" -- so NOT Julie.

Why are you making me write text now? What happened to the simple star system for the three areas; Story, performance and overall? Now, it looks like we can either do only 'overall' from the library list ... or we have to write a full review. I feel somewhat bullied into writing a review .. or are you taking the NetFlix path and not let us share our simple, star opinions? You trained us; please don't change the rules. Maybe this is a website bug? I tried to find a way in the "Help" system to log a support issue ... but don't see anyway to do that. So, I'm forced to share via my review; which you forced. ;-)

The main storyline has great potential but the character dialog is maddening, wasteful and repetitive. RC is the king and probably the only reason this book has any stars. Read the non 5-star reviews if you want a true evaluation of the book. I may still listen to Book 2; again the storyline is kind of cool. And BTW Dean, Victor never could have commanded an F-22; seriously. Speak to at least one military person before you write your next book.

Historia
My name is Alice Long, and I've always known I was different. When I was little I used to climb up to the highest branches of the housetree at night, and watch the starships docking at the orbital stations high above. Forty meters off the ground, watching ships 30,000 kilometers overhead, with senses that could pick out radar pings and comm chatter as easily as the ships themselves. It all seemed perfectly natural at the time.

Great story, great narration until Chapter 26
Revisado: 06-24-17
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Something happened to the narrator while recording this book. She has amazing range for every character and then, ‘slam’, she sounds drunk or medicated. I hope she’s OK. You fall in love with the energy of the character then suddenly she has no energy.
I’d be happy to follow the next book if the narrator has it back together in a preview or something.
So, the story is amazing. Good twist with the character leaning who and what she is. Classic ‘outsider’ from an isolated past and world finds a crew and earns her way aboard.
For those who care; good ‘girl power’ messaging. I just love good characters.
Good twists on space travel.
Oh yeah, don’t need an hour ‘appendix’ explaining how things work … you can probably cut that out with the audio book because we had to figure it out while listening. That would provide the buyer with a ‘true’ elapsed time for the book.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Perilous Waif?
The AI ... can't say anymore ;-)
Any additional comments?
I would still buy the book again … if I could just be ready for chapter 26 (about 3:45 left in the book).

Historia
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Had to do my 1st Review: This Book is Fun!
Revisado: 03-18-17
If you could sum up Columbus Day in three words, what would they be?
Human Military Scifi
What was one of the most memorable moments of Columbus Day?
1st most memorable, and I know it’s sounds trivial, but I think only a military person would understand … is when Joe asks for the cheese burger and explains that publicly receiving a military award or gratitude is not about you … it’s about the others who serve and have a deep need to thank you which creates and even further burden of service to them. This is very deep stuff and most people don’t know about it. And the author and voice talent genuinely conveyed this message in the midst of a very punchy book. Kudos for top-notch awareness. 2nd most memorable: When Skippy dressed down the classic PHD know-it-all.
What does R.C. Bray bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The New England accent matched with true military language and action was almost too true to believe. I felt like I was there with a bunch of enlisted buddies taking on the bad guys. The not-too-over-the-top military/New England sarcasm is VERY hard to properly pull off … and the writing/reading hit-the-mark.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes. Stayed up too late a few nights listening.
Any additional comments?
After 4 years with Audible and almost 200 books in my library, this is the 1st time I felt compelled to write. I’m a civilian tech and former military guy next to one of the settings in the book and I just had to speak. I laughed out loud a few times in my house while doing choirs and my kids kept looking at me funny. What would Skippy say? I know guys like Joe.

Amazing Attention to Tech Detail
Revisado: 03-23-15
If you could sum up Once Dead in three words, what would they be?
Amazing prequel to Rho
What other book might you compare Once Dead to and why?
Reamde. Amazing attention to tech, military and dark world detail.
Which scene was your favorite?
Story scene: Janet's risk to meet Jack.
Nerd scene: Hacking Jack's new laptop through anti-virus software (more real than you know).
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
It could happen.
Any additional comments?
Richard's research toward real agencies, technology, military hierarchy, pop culture and special operations are unmatched. Reminiscent of early Clancy. I work tech, military and missile defense and love the weave of story and reality. This is very much an adult story and progression of both character and story. Thanks Richard. Bring us more.

Neal is Back!
Revisado: 07-28-12
If you could sum up Reamde in three words, what would they be?
Cryptonomicon has returned
Who was your favorite character and why?
Richard is probably my favorite character due to his complex and very American contemporary story.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The death of John in the forest on his "knees" redeeming himself of his ghosts of Vietnam. Subtly and respectfully back-storied with an absolute understanding of that generation of midwestern veteran tied to modern day redemption while protecting his highest treasure; Zula. So artfully tied into the action packed conclusion to the book. I have NEVER experienced such a fulfilling final series of concluding chapters in a contemporary fiction book. Cryptonomicon (as a former crypto guy) is the only book to come close.
Any additional comments?
Neal has returned to his epic, contemporary, real life, detailed, high-tech stories. This book returns to the genre of Snow Crash and Cryptonomicon. As a dad, prepper, gamer, former military officer, 30 year veteran programmer and Internet startup guy, this book hit every angle of interest for me.I had two favorite SF authors; Gibson and Stephenson. Now I have one; Stephenson.Thank you for coming back! We have missed you.
