A Happy Accident
Revisado: 06-10-24
Do you know what it’s like when a series that you constantly play in the background of your life doesn’t have any new material? That’s where I found myself about a week ago and I was desperate for new content. I stumbled across this book and decided to try it because I’ve always liked Greek mythology and things about Gods and other deities. It’s my first novel by Brom. Holy moly. Blown away. Everything I predicted was wrong and I was very satisfied with that! Super creative and excellent world building. I will read everything else is author writes!

Strong emotions can literally start a fire with him, so he's always struggled to hold emotions back, unwilling to let his "gift" harm anyone. So far, one-night stands have been the answer. Then along comes Julian Kristados, a man who turns Jason's world upside down. When he's with Julian, Jason finds it impossible to control his fire.

Couldn't force myself to finish this one
Revisado: 07-22-12
I had huge issues getting into this story, even with it being so short. It jumped too quickly into cheap sex and auto-destruction for my taste. I understand that it's rock and roll, but it's really sleazy and trashy. My real issue was the narrator. In my opinion, he was too old to portray the protagonist. I had a real issue with his low, gravely timbre and his whispering parts of the story. I gave it an honest shot and it fell short. I'm also mad that I spent a credit on it without realizing how short it was!

Delicious romance!
Revisado: 06-17-12
I just finished listening to the last chapter a few minutes ago while relaxing in a bubble bath. This book was pure delicious romance. For 10 amazing hours, I was invited to enter the incredible love story of Aleron and Jasak. I was instantly hooked from the first interaction between the two and I loved listening as Aleron slowly worked his way into Jasak's hard heart. The sex scenes were incredible and had me very hot and bothered while listening, so be careful where you listen to this story. This story was intimately set and buried in the living tunnels of dirt of Tantoret where Jasak and Aleron have nothing to do but fall in love with one another. This all changes when an unknown danger approaches and threatens to destroy life as Aleron and Jasak know it. This author is extremely talented, I was so pleased by how she delineated the differences between the intergalactic species and planets. I have a feeling I won't forget this touching story anytime soon and am already planning on re-listening to it very soon. Thank you Jamie Craig for writing such a wonderful love story, and PLEASE consider a sequel! The narrator also did an excellent job. Sometimes I could hear him breathing and a couple of wheezes here and there, but I just took it as being part of the drama and acting, so no hard feelings!

Absolutely perfect
Revisado: 06-10-12
I'm no stranger to Stephen King, but I never got around to reading "It." I saw the movie when I was a little kid and it scared the crap out of me! I didn't realize the novel would bring that fear to a whole different level! First of all, the narrator Steven Weber is a full-blown performer and he absolutely earned his paycheck acting the hell out of these characters! He brought every single one of them to life. The story itself is insanely horrifying. I like to read/listen to audiobooks at night while I fall asleep. This book would actually keep me up at night because of how freaky some of the scenes were. I remember being tightly huddled under my covers, unwilling to stick out my arm to turn off the audible app because I was scared by the scene that was currently being narrated! Not every author can do that!

Pure brain candy
Revisado: 06-10-12
When I don't want to read something intellectually heavy, I find books that I call "brain candy." This one definitely fits that category. It is well written and does most of the thinking for you. I'm not trying to be condescending, this is a vacation for my mind. Cassie is an interesting protagonist and the polar extremities of Faye and Diana are nicely portrayed. I wish these books were a little longer though. I'm already at the last book available and awaiting the next installment. I prefer the book series to the show on the CW, but I admittedly watch it faithfully every week.

Not quite as good as the debut, but still good
Revisado: 06-10-12
I loved Divergent! I had just finished the Hunger Games and was looking for something to fill the void left by finishing the series. In my opinion, the first book was better. This book was filled with similar feats of heroics and dauntlessness, and interestingly Trice starts to explore her tendencies for the other factions. I just felt the there was a little too much "drama" between Tobias and Trice. Even now that I'm done reading the novel, I'm still confused about all the tension between those two. I loved the ending, it rocked my world! Now I just have to wait for the next book to come out...

An improvement over the first book
Revisado: 06-10-12
I gave the first book a harsh review, but I decided to try out the sequel. I actually enjoyed this one. I still think the writing is a little shallow for my taste, but I have to admit that I do find myself thinking about the lovely sirens when I walk on the beach. In this novel, Nessa starts to come to terms with her siren power and her future with Simon. An interesting twist happens in the middle of the book. Similar to the first book, all of the "action" happens at the end of the book and is over in the blink of an eye. Not sure if I'll read the third installment or not, but at least the books are cheap. The narrator improved by a lot.

A brief love story that left me wanting more
Revisado: 06-10-12
I honestly didn't realize how short this book was until I downloaded it onto my phone and realized it was an hour and 55 minutes. I was horrified that I downloaded a short story, but decided to give it a chance. I'm glad I did. This little love story is full of romance and raw emotion. I was surprised by how quickly I became invested in Nick and Lucas. Due to the brevity of the story, we are introduced to Nick and Lucas right at the beginning of their relationship. The book has suspense, danger, passion, sex, and love. All three characters are plausible and enjoyable and surprisingly well rounded considering the length of the story.
I thought the narrator did a great job. Regarding the other review that mentioned the narrator sometimes streams along the dialogue, yes I would have to agree. At times I wasn't sure if Lucas or Nick made the statement, but this only happened 2-3 times and I figured it out after rewinding. My only little gripe is that Lucas is supposed to be blonde, and the cute boy on the cover of this story is a brunette. The sex scenes were tantalizing and well written!
Ultimately this is a short romance story highlighting a beautifully damaged man and his difficult battle to allow himself to be loved. There's a night in shining armor and an evil villain. I loved this story :)

Had potential it never lived up to
Revisado: 04-14-12
This book was easily the most juvenile and superficial thing I have ever listened to on Audible. It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't any good either. The characters are not even remotely developed or interesting, and all of them seem like caricatures of real people. The protagonist's reaction to her sister's death is completely surreal and nonsensical. I understand that this is fantasy, but it was not even remotely believable. The myth of the sirens wasn't even fully explored. And right at the end, one of the major characters in the story has a huge character change that comes out of nowhere. The plot was extremely predictable and contrived. I could have told you the plot twist just from looking at the cover of the book. And I would've appreciated an epilogue. I had major issues with the narrator. Her tone was extremely precarious and tentative, as if she weren't sure she was reading the right passage. She was entirely too careful and timid and not at all emphatic when appropriate. I also agree with another reviewer, she breathes very strangely and does these little gasping breaths between sentences. I did not enjoy this book.

Wow, not sure where this went wrong...
Revisado: 12-23-11
What would have made Life of Pi better?
I purchased this book after reading all of the rave reviews. I'm not sure if I started listening to it at the wrong time, or if I was expecting something completely different. I was 3/4 of the way through part I when I decided to just stop listening. I was starved for action within the first few chapters. I found myself frequently asking out loud
What was most disappointing about Yann Martel’s story?
The sluggish pace and lack of action in the beginning of the book did me in. I'm sure things spice up when he actually gets on the boat, but honestly I was almost halfway through part I and there was no mention of it.
How could the performance have been better?
The narrator annoyed me for some reason. But the accent was spot on!
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
I still have it floating around my library. I might give it another chance sometime. But honestly I used it to help lull me to sleep a lot, so I might not be able to listen to it without passing out.
