Historia
Samantha finds herself stranded 75 miles away from home after an EMP decimates all critical infrastructure and cripples the power grid. With the help of old family friends, she arms herself with a revolver and a pack full of supplies and then strikes out to hike home. Seeking a direct and safe route, she chooses to cross the Black Hills Forest, but quickly discovers it’s neither.

Narration and content bias
Revisado: 08-24-21
Honestly, the narrator’s tone and lack of vocal pitch changes is almost unbearable. Her cadence and lack luster reading almost made me quit halfway through. I’m glad it was a short listen. Additionally, the clear political bias of the novel is unvarnished and unwelcome to my sensibilities. I get that I’m listening to a prepper’s apocalypse scenario, so that tends to have a very anti government tilt. But even so, the disparaging characterizations of a boyfriend who gets emotional, or a guy with a man bun, or reference to a tree hugger and Bernie Sanders left me with a bad taste in my mouth. I would not recommend this read.
