Absolutely Fantastic!
Revisado: 01-20-25
This story was amazing! Both narrators gave beautiful performances, giving life to the characters. This is a slow burn sapphic romance, brilliantly done. The story has a fantasy setting, with magic, intrigue, royal politics, and an army of cursed dead soldiers. I can't wait for Part Two! I highly recommend this story.

The fourth book in the NYT best-selling Expanse series, Cibola Burn sees the crew of the Rocinante on a new frontier, as the rush to colonize the new planets threatens to outrun law and order and give way to war and chaos. Enter a new frontier. "An empty apartment, a missing family, that's creepy. But this is like finding a military base with no one on it. Fighters and tanks idling on the runway with no drivers. This is bad juju. Something wrong happened here. What you should do is tell everyone to leave".

My wife and I watched The Expanse series first, so that was our introduction. I have to applaud the series for doing a fantastic job. The original story is just as good and we thoroughly enjoyed it. They actually complement each other quite well. We're excited to keep listening to this epic story.
The narrator did an excellent job and does Belter spot-on! The voice he does for Miller sounds just like the actor that played that character. Though technically it would be the other way around.
If you like epic sci-fi you will love this book!

Cosmic Horror Thriller
Revisado: 06-08-23
This is story is much darker than Paolini's other books, but it is still a good story. It makes me said to see so many people leaving bad reviews. I really enjoyed the story and I loved Jennifer Hale's amazing performance. I really loved her performance of, To Sleep in a Sea of Stars, and she does not disappoint.
This story really reminds me of some of Lovecraft and some other early cosmic horror. I was with the main character the whole way.

So Many Feels...
Revisado: 12-08-22
This was wonderful. I'm not going to lie, some parts were really hard for me and my wife. So please be aware of the Trigger Warnings I have listed below. Like the Wheel of Fortune card, this story brought up things we had not fully gone through or that needed to be seen through new eyes. This might be the biggest lesson this book presents and it shows us we do not always see things clearly.
The main character Eleanor is a teenager that has gone through a lot. She like many teens does not know how to truly handle her emotions. This is not helped by the fact Eleanor was lied to and manipulated by the person she cared about the most; then she was bullied by those that saw her as competition and then abandoned by the one person she thought would always stand up for her. Someone she deeply and blindly loved.
A coven of witches moves into Salem and Eleanor is invited to join. As she is accepted into the coven, she begins to heal. She even has the new potential for love, the girl who introduced her to the coven. At the same time that Eleanor is introduced to the coven, witchcraft, and how magic works, the commerciaized witch shop that she works at receives a handmade booklet on the Tarot. She starts learning about the Tarot with this little booklet as a guide. The Major Arcana guide Eleanor through to see things differently.
I would also like to mention that the use of witchcraft and paganism in this book was done beautifully. As a practicing witch and pagan, it was so refreshing to come across a book that actually portrayed the spiritual beliefs properly. Magic truly is about intention and the focusing of the mind. Everything done in preparation, during, and after ritual is done to help focus energy for a particular purpose.
The narrator Stacey Glemboski was excellent, especially with a story that has a lot of conversant Dialog. She also portrays the emotions of the characters extremely well. She is definitely one of my favorite narrators.
One last note is about the marijuana use. I do agree that the way Eleanor was using was not ideal or healthy, but I also feel that there are so many far worse options. I did feel that the author was giving marijuana use a negative vibe. I have chronic pain and use weed to help with my medical condition. I hope that others will still be able to see that marijuana does not always have a negative connotation.
Overall this was a wonderful books and I'm glad my wife and I were able to take the journey together.
Trigger Warnings: trauma, mental health, unhealthy relationships, homophobia, homophobic remarks, bullying, underage drinking, underage drug use, marijuana use, attempted rape, concussion, coma.

Revisado: 07-07-22
Abby Craden is one of my all time favorite Narrators and in this thrilling audiobook she does not disappoint. The story is riveting, beautiful, seductive, empowering, and all together absolutely gorgeous! The characters are rich and multifaceted. This story was so engaging it was really hard to put on pause. My wife and I spent several nights staying up till very late to listen. We both thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook.
If you enjoyed "The Devil Wears Prada" and are looking for a lesbian love story version (with a little justice for SA victims mixed in), then this story is absolutely for you.

Excellent combination of Dragons and Magic
Revisado: 06-26-22
The Portal War Trilogy was excellent. I truly loved the main character Nova, even with her flaws. In the end, those flaws made her so much stronger. I have always been a fan of dragons and this trilogy was my first introduction to Ava Richardson 's dragon world.
The narrator did a great job and was a good choice for this storywhich centers around Nova. Her performance was wonderful. There were a couple of parts that I felt she was not as consistent with her different voices, but overall those were small and she kept my attention. I did feel she read through the battle scenes a little more quickly, which made it harder for me to keep up. I completely understand though, they were exciting!
Over, wonderful! If you love dragons and magic, this trilogy is an excellent listen.

Truly one of the Best audiobooks!
Revisado: 05-03-22
From the beginning I loved the narrator's performance. I loved the difference of vocal tones in the two main characters. Excellently done! The number of different voices that the Narrator uses was most impressive. Her pace and vocal inflection was perfect!
The story was truly amazing! I recently started listening to some audiobooks and when I started this one, my wife listened with me. She enjoyed the first few chapters so much, that she got mad at me when I had listened ahead. So we listened together. I love the characters and world building. As you get deeper into the book you learn that the characters are on earth. They are on a different planet call Nordarra. There's a porta in the oceanl that sea vessels go through. The two main characters are very detailed and I feel like I could be their best friends.
I look forward to reading the next book or books that Emily Noon writes about Nordarra.
