Historia
In the near future, a civil servant is offered the salary of her dreams and is, shortly afterward, told what project she’ll be working on. A recently established government ministry is gathering “expats” from across history to establish whether time travel is feasible—for the body, but also for the fabric of space-time.

Great story, not your usual time travel novel
Revisado: 05-24-24
The story was layered and engaging. I loved the characters and it was at times very funny. A wonderful book, definitely worth a read or listen!

Historia
Let Us Descend describes a journey from the rice fields of the Carolinas to the slave markets of New Orleans and into the fearsome heart of a Louisiana sugar plantation. A journey that is as beautifully rendered as it is heart wrenching, the novel is “[t]he literary equivalent of an open wound from which poetry pours” (NPR). Annis, sold south by the white enslaver who fathered her, is the listener’s guide. As she struggles through the miles-long march, Annis turns inward, seeking comfort from memories of her mother and stories of her African warrior grandmother.

Beautifully written, hauntingly sad exquisite story
Revisado: 02-17-24
The words in this novel were lyrical and poetic, but the sadness and loss were almost unbearable to read. It is ultimately a story of survival - of indignities, humiliation, loss, love, and circumstances.
I cannot recommend this novel more strongly and believe it should be required reading for all high school aged children.
My review can in no way do justice to the beauty of this book and the remarkably talented woman who wrote it. She takes you on a journey that is heartwrenching, poignant and somehow still full of love and hope.

I really enjoyed this story and plan on buying the book. The author continues to deliver outstanding work that is somehow light and heavy at the same time. The writing is beautiful and so expressive - I can imagine getting lost in the words. The narration was spot on too!

Not what I expected
Revisado: 01-18-22
The narration was good, but the story was not. The main character, Sherri, was stupid and unlikable and the story was depressing. It is hard to listen when mistakes are made and repeated over and over again. I do not recommend this book

Historia
Nestled into the cliffs in southern Italy's Amalfi coast, Positano is an artist's vision, with rows of brightly hued houses perched above the sea and picturesque staircases meandering up and down the hillside. Santina, still a striking woman despite old age and the illness that saps her last strength, is spending her final days at her home, Villa San Vito. The magnificent 18th-century palazzo is very different from the tiny house in which she grew up. And as she decides its fate, she must confront the choices that led her here so long ago.

Historia
Viktor Orlov had a longstanding appointment with death. Once Russia’s richest man, he now resides in splendid exile in London, where he has waged a tireless crusade against the authoritarian kleptocrats who have seized control of the Kremlin. His mansion in Chelsea’s exclusive Cheyne Walk is one of the most heavily protected private dwellings in London. Yet somehow, on a rainy summer evening, in the midst of a global pandemic, Russia’s vengeful president finally manages to cross Orlov’s name off his kill list.

Excellent and intriguing!
Revisado: 12-04-21
I loved listening to this story. It is very realistic and plausible, which makes it a little scary. I don't understand the negative reviews unless you believe Trump really won the 2020 election. If you are grounded in reality and open to real facts you should not have a problem with this novel. The author does an excellent job writing about the pandemic and the political climate. He is well researched and the notes offered following the conclusion are eye opening. I really enjoyed the entire series and look forward to reading more.
The narrator is top notch too.
