Will make you laugh and cry a little too

This is one of the best books I have listened to in a long time. The book is very funny, and the main character is truly lovable. I’m going to listen to and read the authors other books as well, since I enjoyed this one so much.

Didn’t finish

Humorous but names were problematic

I enjoy Joan Hess’ humor but I had a problem trying to keep the characters straight. It seemed like there were so many characters and the names were often similar. It was very confusing and detracted from my enjoyment of the book.

This book is eye-opening, honest, and truly courageous. I am 72 now and wish that (had it been written then) I had read it as a young woman. I believe that it would have changed my life. Perhaps the best non-fiction book I have ever read.

Disappointing

Unfortunately it was obvious who the murderer was when there were still about 3 hours left to listen to on the audiobook.
Also, the narrator did not change her voice for any of the characters. So when there was a conversation, it was very confusing who was saying what.

Shouldn’t have changed narrator...

I loved the first four books in this collection - “Haunted Vintage Mystery”. Narrator Tara Ochs spoke clearly and gave each character so much personality. She is so gifted with accents and tone of voice.
To my great disappointment, the fifth book had a new narrator, Angie Hickman, whom in my opinion had a nasal somewhat monotone voice. Worst of all, she sounded as though she were bored with what she was reading! I couldn’t get through the first chapter and requested a refund from Audible.
The stories are excellent but with an audible book so much depends on the narrator. Please, please bring Tara Ochs back!

Couldn’t finish reading

I found the story boring (especially the predictable “romance” angle) and I only listened up to chapter 9. None of the characters were particularly likable, including the main character who spoke in first person.
Reminded me more of a Harlequin Romantic Suspense than a cozy mystery.

Lovely story

This is a very delightful and enjoyable book for ladies of all ages. The etiquette lessons are written in as part of the narrative. I really enjoyed listening to it. Particularly charming was the way background sounds were incorporated into the story, for example birds chirping in the park and seals barking at the zoo. I highly recommend this audio book!
