Historia
Two astronomers have detected a strange, pulsing signal from deep space. Within hours, the US government goes into lockdown, restricting airspace and scrubbing scientific data. Was the signal an intercepted communication revealing alarming plans for an enemy’s military strike? Or has humanity at long last found proof of extraterrestrial life?

Hmmmm.... 🤔
Revisado: 01-12-25
Really good production and performances. Initially a creepy, gripping extraterrestrial story that sort of frayed and dissolved into a somewhat unsatisfying ending. "A" for effort, "B+" for execution & story. I gave it 4 stars but it's really 3.5

Winslet Wins
Revisado: 11-25-24
Holy cow. I knew Kate Winslet was a good, no great, actor but her voice narration is ridiculous. She might very well be the best book narrator in the known (and unknown) galaxy. The writing is tirelessly fresh, witty, funny... it fizzles and sparks like a stick of dynamite in a puddle of gasoline... in a good way, a comforting way, a Garlicky way.

Historia
Hasidic Williamsburg is famous as one of the most separatist, intensely religious, and politically savvy communities. Less known is how the community survived in one of New York City's toughest neighborhoods during an era of steep decline, only to later oppose and also participate in the unprecedented gentrification of Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Nathaniel Deutsch and Michael Casper unravel the fascinating history of how a community of determined Holocaust survivors encountered, shaped, and sometimes fiercely resisted the urban processes that transformed their gritty neighborhood.

Problematic Narrator
Revisado: 05-16-24
The book is fascinating, however the narrator sounds like he's reading it for the first time, plowing his way through the material in a listless monotone. I can't finish listening to it; the narration is just too annoying.

Historia
It’s the summer of ’77 in New York City, and the only thing more unnerving than the scorching heatwave is the rampant murder, leaving washed-up homicide detective Richard Dietrich on edge. When Dietrich investigates a brutal mob hit the brass doesn’t want him to solve, he goes from phoning it in to getting in over his head. Caught up in a mysterious second homicide with an even more perplexing perpetrator, Dietrich starts to second guess his instincts—and his memory—as he searches for answers at the bottom of a bottle.

"Dietrich": Superlative narration of a very well written, mostly pointless, thoroughly depressing cop story. Enjoy!

Historia
Winter is coming. Such is the stern motto of House Stark, the northernmost of the fiefdoms that owe allegiance to King Robert Baratheon in far-off King's Landing. There Eddard Stark of Winterfell rules in Robert's name. Far to the north, behind the towering Wall, lie savage Wildings and worse - unnatural things relegated to myth during the centuries-long summer, but proving all too real and all too deadly in the turning of the season. Yet a more immediate threat lurks to the south, where Jon Arryn, the Hand of the King, has died under mysterious circumstances....

George Martin can write!
Revisado: 12-25-23
After watching the TV series I was curious to see what the book it was based on is like. Can't speak for all the GOT books, but it's amazing how closely the show followed the 1st book in almost every detail. I had no idea how much of the content came straight from GOT's originator. George RR Martin is quite an author. This also speaks to what an amazing job the show creators did as well.

Even worse, they want Barnacle, Melancholy and Garlic back, sparking a truly unusual effort to prove that Miss Emily is the best parent for them. Will the family get justice? Winslet is Extraordinary!
Revisado: 10-07-23
The story itself is delightfully twisted, entertaining, and creative with a sort of Tim Burtonesque aesthetic to it... and possibly not worth listening to if Kate Winslet wasn't narrating it. But fortunately she is, and she is truly astounding! The production is top-notch as well.

Historia
Claire has absolutely no interest in the paranormal. She's a scientist, which is why she can't think of anything worse than having to help out her dad on one of his ghost-themed Chicago bus tours. She thinks she's made it through when she sees a boy with a sad face and dark eyes at the back of the bus. There's something off about his presence, especially because when she checks at the end of the tour...he's gone.

Terrific Narration!
Revisado: 07-09-23
I could only get through the first third of this novel. Don't get me wrong, Currie is an excellent YA writer with a natural sense of dialogue, characters, etc. However, it becomes just too unrealistic and annoying that her protagonist repetitively refuses to confide in her supportive, loving, ghost-hunting father about the ghost that haunts her, even when sheer terror pushes her to the brink of self-implosion from being haunted by a ghost... that HE hooked her up with! And when her parents constantly ask her what's wrong, and she continually makes up bizarre excuses for her hallucinatory meltdowns, they blithely except her weak assurances that everything is juusst fine. But as far as I can tell this is the novel's only flaw. All other aspects of this story are first-rate. Which makes me wonder, where was her editor? (If such things still exist in this self-publishing age.) Keep going Ms. Currie, you have a formidable talent. Oh, and did I mention that Jesse Vilinsky is a superlative voice actor?

Historia
A disturbing tale of a young man's uncanny ability to remain both young and beautiful while descending into a life of heartless debauchery, The Picture of Dorian Gray was considered proof of both Wilde's genius and his perversion. Oscar Wilde's scandalous best seller of 1891 was one of the most damning pieces of evidence used against him in the trial that brought about his downfall.

Historia
“The Heron” is the nickname a big-city accountant has attached to himself in his new home near San Diego, where he’s using the alias to avoid a hit man who may be after him. It seems a former client believes that The Heron has skipped town with several million dollars not his own. Don Winslow’s ensuing, entertaining yarn is by turns twisty, dark, and comical as we observe the delicate dance between the pursuer and the pursued.
