cheesy and unrealistic
Revisado: 06-17-24
it's one of those stories that seems to be packed, but when you look closely, there is nothing there.
had hoped gor a lot more from the female warrior.
The ending was so cheesy, it made me cringe.
I do like the narrator and think she did a great job.

He may have been blinded in battle, but he can see a solution to both their problems: marriage. At first, quiet, unassuming Sophia rejects Vincent's proposal. But when such a gloriously handsome man persuades her that he needs a wife of his own choosing as much as she needs protection from destitution, she agrees.

can not forgive the author
Revisado: 02-16-24
I simply can not forgive the author for the understanding tone towards the two villain women.
what they did was beyond unforgivable, and the excuses of youth are stupid given that they could still have confessed just a year prior, when they were no longer young, yet had not done so.
I also can not forgive the petty, self absorbed behaviour of morgan, who demands to pick the painful wounds of Gervase, the petty vengeful behaviour of hers even when she knows all the pain that he had been through.
throughout the book, the author's tone is implying Gervase is in the wrong for clinging to the injustice done to him, ehen this injustice was not really long ago as she claims, as it had lasted untill a year prior to the setting of the book.
so far it had been a decent series, but this had been awful, the morality of it is simply unacceptable.

very badly written
Revisado: 12-02-23
i do think the author tried hard, but it was simply a sloppy book, doesn't sound like it even had a proper editor. the reasoning throughout the book and for the villain was simply ludicrous. in a few points of the book there have been a change in the backstory of the h's life (small things but it just shows nobody really edited the book).
i think the author does have potential with creativity of plot, but it was not realised here.
in addition, the descriptions, dialogues and characters were not well written. author needs to read more books to maybe get there in future.
as for narration - have listened to this narrator before, usually does a decent job, but here i think he was not feeling it, and it was heard.

romance that fails to come alive
Revisado: 01-06-23
the heroine is too modern and not believable whatsoever. honestly, i pity the hero for falling for her. she is so combative and defensive all the time that i fail to see what he finds in her.
moreover, while we are being *told* they fall in love with each other, it feels flat, and their romance doesn't come alive at all. I am quite sick of authors telling me, instead of actually showing me, the feelings of their characters.
one last thing (that plagues most romance novels of this sort so I don't really blame the author) - why must there always be a prolonged description of every little feature of the supermodel heroine's beauty?
think of books like pride and prejudice, in which Elizabeth's beauty is brought into question, only to later make it shine in the bewitched eyes of Mr. darcy - now, isn't that much more powerful than simply stating the heroine's appealing features like a grocery shopping list?
as for narration - the narrator does a great job with voices, but fails to deliver tone as the author states for each sentence.

landor was brilliant as ever, story was lovely
Revisado: 04-25-22
i have read one of the wallflowers before (devil in winter) and two more books by kleypas, and I must say that this book is the first one by the author that had managed to stay as interesting to me throughout the entire read.
while all the others were interesting in the first half and picked up again towards the end, they all had a boring slump, or a plot progress that had seemed rather random somewhere past the middle, as if the author had lost her train of thought and then regained it in the few last chapters.
this one, however, was a smooth listen to me.
I liked the characters and the plot, and enjoyed the love stories of both sisters.
I do wish, however, that in some instances there would have been more character development and a maturing of the relationships before things just happened (seems to be an affliction of romance novels - progress with no in-depth development). I think it would have been nice to see the heroine slowly grows to accept herself, to see their rekindled romance develops more deeply, not relying solely on touch and lust (this is also true to the secondary romance). but it does seem like a lot to ask when romance novels are written in "quantity over quality" approach.
nonetheless, I do think it is an enjoyable read. it was filled with tale of the heroine's inner battle of keeping her misfortune a secret, so if you don't like angst in a book you might want to avoid this one. I personally could relate to the heroine a lot. many criticised her in the reviews for not being honest and open and even thought her to be vain for not telling the hero her secret from fear of rejection. but I understand the heroine's vulnerability when there is a certain part of her that she wishes to hide from the world, that she thinks that no one will accept, since she herself doesn't accept it, even hates it, and it makes her think no one can love her like that. It is not easy to accept such flaws, let alone accept that someone else can accept them and even love someone despite of them. and often times people with low confidence due to esthetic issues tend to become more critical and "shallow" due to their own experience.

Good listening
Revisado: 04-23-22
narrator was good, though not my favourite (felt a bit over dramatic at times).
story was interesting enough. the writing itself is good, I liked the heroine a lot - she knows how to pick her battles and is only stubborn when she should be. she is intelligent and not one to let the men do all the work - she proves that she is even more capable than the men in the story.
the hero was also well written. he is flawed and at the beginning he is way too arrogant and self entitled. but he grows to accept the heroine's strengths and respect her.
the plot itself was fun, although the identity of the villain was predictable right from the start. also, there was no real development or growth that justified the transition of the heroine from "I will never marry you" to "please marry me already". she just up and decides it all of a sudden, after being stubbornly against it (the only reason I could find was that she wanted him to have sex with her, which is ridiculous).
but what I least liked was (surprisingly) the sex scenes. they felt tedious to me, not at all interesting. I was just waiting for them to be done with it already (I'm not normally one to dislike these kind of scenes, I especially love scenes that express deep intimacy and connection between the characters, but here it just felt sooo boring and nothing more than sex).
over all it was worth the credit and was well written and a decent entertainment.

sooo boring
Revisado: 04-02-22
the first book was interesting in parts that concerned the plot, even if it was predictable. but, the relationship felt badly written and I had trouble believing the development of MCs feelings. it was solely based on lust.
the second book (god knows what possessed me to pick it up after the first one) was so much better for me - even though the attraction of the MCs there was instant, it felt believable considering the plot - the heroine nursing the hero back to health with such devotion had to stir some immediate feelings in him. and, the heroine's state of loneliness, her inexperience and her girlish fantasies of a warrior to love made it logical for her to fall for the man that kept calling her an angel when she took care of him. I loved the tenderness between them and it had won over the lacking plot for me.
in this, the third installment of the series, I felt the author was out of tale to tell. the sex scenes felt like fillers, the characters didn't live up to their description (heroine felt overly submissive and hero didn't have a personality at all, just random bursts of anger). on top of that - the plot stretched and felt practically none existent. things that could add depth to the story (such as the heroine's fear of her father's dishonoring behaviour and the hero's "inability to trust" due to past experience) were delt with in a shallow way.
it all ended in an ending soooo cheesy I almost felt the need to puke. proving that the author is stereotypically American (must always add extra cheese to the story).
the narrator is great, she had saved me during my listening to the first book and had made the second more enjoyable with her good skill and pleasant voice. but even she could not make the third book a better listen.
NOT worth a credit 🤷♀️

Good romance made great by narration
Revisado: 03-31-22
The writing was good, and although the plot wasn't the best it could be, the tenderness of the romance and the splendid narration that was carried with emotion and helped me immerse in the story, had made it a great listen.
I personally preferred this story to the previous one in the trilogy. I was almost dissuaded from listening to this book because of the previous one, that to me felt lacking in the development of the love and care of the main characters.
But, thanks to the great narration of the first book, I finally decided to try this one out.
To me, the insta love here (which I usually don't like) actually felt justified - the heroine having spent the better part of her life in loneliness, still dreaming of a warrior's love as she had when she was a child. As for the hero, his wounded state and the great care the heroine treated him with was a reasonable excuse for his immediate attraction.
I loved that he was the warrior to her and she the angel to him.
I do think that the plot was lacking in some parts and the story was spent dwelling over the same emotional conflict for long. Yet, it has not bothered me that much and i was able to ignore it.
To me, once the writing is good and the romance gripping, I'm able to easily set all plot issues aside.
All in all, it was worth the credit and I will definitely listening to it again in the future.

Historia
The tranquillity of a cruise along the Nile was shattered by the discovery that Linnet Ridgeway had been shot through the head. She was young, stylish, and beautiful. A girl who had everything...until she lost her life. Hercule Poirot recalled an earlier outburst by a fellow passenger: "I'd like to put my dear little pistol against her head and just press the trigger." Yet in this exotic setting nothing was ever quite what it seemed.
