I started to read a physical copy of the book and was really enjoying it. But when I saw that there was an audiobook, I had to give it a try. I'm about sing this book's praises, but let me just say that C.J. McAllister's narration was a heap of icing on the cake. It's like he was made to narrate this book. Honestly, I think it's worth it to fork out for the audiobook. It's so good.

Take that classy pulpy Western novel you always loved or wanted to read. Remove the pulp. Add a fast-paced, character driven plot. J.M. Thomas is highly creative, but the worldbuilding is tight. This is more than just a vampires in the Wild West concept. J.M. Thomas takes that idea to the next level. Pretty much on or around the first chapter, the book get a shot of adrenaline, while never suffering from pacing issues. The prose is sturdy with a just the right amount of zing. The characters are sympathetic. I want vampires in the Wild West to be real and I want Pete to be as real as Wyatt Earp.. The ending resolves nicely, but will make you want to pick up the next book in the series.

Go ahead and pick it up. It's a great ride with plenty of twist, turns, suspense, and action. I read J.M. Thomas' book The Secrets of Sarai, which was awesome. I'm glad to see J.M. Thomas proven as an accomplished writer in more than one genre. I look forward to picking up the other books in this series, but I can't wait to see what comes next from the author.
