After a childhood spent on Hollywood film sets, Meghan Markle fought hard for stardom. But even when she landed her breakthrough role on Suits, her dream of worldwide celebrity remained elusive until she met the man who would change her life—Prince Harry. Their whirlwind romance culminated with Meghan’s ultimate fairy tale ending: their 2018 wedding at Windsor Castle. Finally, the world was her stage. It seemed that the dizzying success of the wedding between the new Duke and Duchess of Sussex marked the beginning of a fresh era for the British Royal Family.

Very well written

This book takes you from the early days of childhood to the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. A lot of what I’ve been hearing has now made sense. Will be interesting to see if ‘Rachel’ and Harry fully implode.

Historia
George Orwell depicts a gray, totalitarian world dominated by Big Brother and its vast network of agents, including the Thought Police - a world in which news is manufactured according to the authorities' will and people live tepid lives by rote. Winston Smith, a hero with no heroic qualities, longs only for truth and decency. But living in a social system in which privacy does not exist and where those with unorthodox ideas are brainwashed or put to death, he knows there is no hope for him.

Very interesting & thought provoking
Revisado: 03-10-22
Have to start by complementing the narrator, he was amazing. He was clearly enjoying the story, this came through with the voices he used and his passion.
This book was required reading in English Literature at school. I didn't really understand the nuances as a 12 year old and so wanted to revisit it. Now 50 years later I get the intricacies of Orwells book. Well written albeit it heavy at times. Very enjoyable listen!

Historia
The French Foreign Legion has established a reputation as the most formidable of military forces. Created as a means of protecting French interests abroad, the legion spearheaded French colonialism in North Africa during the nineteenth century. Accepting volunteers from all parts of the world, the legion acquired an aura of mystery—and a less than enviable reputation for brutality within its ranks.

Nicely written, great account of the French Foreign Legion
Revisado: 02-19-22
Very much liked the way in which the various legionnaire stories were told as if by the individuals themselves. Amazing tales and very interesting.
The only annoyance was that the narrator labored on the letter “s” as he talked. It was as if he was emphasizing sssss at every stage. Became increasingly annoying as the book progressed.

Historia
Here is the whole of recorded British royal history, from the legendary King Alfred the Great onwards, including the monarchies of England, Scotland, Wales and the United Kingdom for over a thousand years. Fascinating portraits are expertly woven into a history of division and eventual union of the British Isles - even royals we think most familiar are revealed in a new and sometimes surprising light.

Informative but too much information
Revisado: 02-13-22
There was a vast amount of information in this book and the author did a great job getting it all in. That being said, there was too much time going back and forth between family lines. As an example, we'd hear about line of succession over say 200 years of the English throne, then we'd go back on the same line for Scotland and then Wales. Would have been better to discuss all at the same time so we can reflect on everything that happened during that period.
Difficult to cover everything that was happening so I will give the author a pass. Good book but sometimes got a little boring. I had to work hard to stay engaged.

Interesting!
Revisado: 02-13-22
Liked the content, the information was interesting and well thought through. Did get the feeling that the author struggled to come up with the "400 things"....may have been better to concentrate more on the subject items rather than having to meet the goal of 400. Overall though an enjoyable book!

Historia
On the surface, the Victorian age is one of propriety, industry, prudishness and piety. But scratch the surface and you’ll find scandal, sadism, sex, madness, malice and murder. Presented by Stephen Fry, this series delves deep into a period of time we think we know, to discover an altogether darker reality. The stories we’re told offer a different perspective on an era which underwent massive social change. As education, trade, technology and culture blossomed, why was there an undercurrent of the ‘forbidden’ festering beneath Victorian society?

Didn't live up to expectations
Revisado: 02-13-22
Love listening to Stephen Fry and so my expectations were high with this book.
There were some really interesting observations and good sections, but some were really boring. I had to struggle to stay with this book. I learned a lot but also have long periods of time that I'm never going to get back.
if you are looking for a lecture with funny quips then this is for you. Otherwise make sure you go in knowing what to expect.

Historia
The 10 enlightening (and often humorous) lectures of Medieval Myths and Mysteries will show you how far from the “dark” times of legend these centuries were. Uncover the facts about the Knights Templar. Reveal the truth behind the tales of legendary creatures like the Questing Beast and the unicorn. Trace the events of the Black Death and the ways it altered the world in its wake, and much more. With Professor Armstrong, you will dig deep into the ways that later generations reshaped the narrative of the medieval years and perpetuated the myths.

Big eye opener to learn that things I’ve always believed to be true maybe are not. And myths I’ve known about for years may not be myths. Loved it!

Historia
It was never supposed to be this close. And of course she was supposed to win. How Hillary Clinton lost the 2016 election to Donald Trump is the tragic story of a sure thing gone off the rails. For every Comey revelation or hindsight acknowledgment about the electorate, no explanation of defeat can begin with anything other than the core problem of Hillary's campaign - the candidate herself.

Generally a good book, but definitely biased
Revisado: 06-26-17
The narrator did a great job keeping me interested. Book was well laid out and some really good, and interesting, information. Do wish the author had taken an objective view when writing this. Many of the comments were clearly partisan and did not consider other objective positions.
