Historia
World War II is drawing to a close in East Prussia and thousands of refugees are on a desperate trek toward freedom, many with something to hide. Among them are Joana, Emilia, and Florian, whose paths converge en route to the ship that promises salvation, the Wilhelm Gustloff. Forced by circumstance to unite, the three find their strength, courage, and trust in each other tested with each step closer to safety. Just when it seems freedom is within their grasp, tragedy strikes.

Historia
In 2001, journalist Jessica DuLong ditched her dot-com desk job for the diesel engines of a rusty antique fireboat, the John J. Harvey, and the storied waters of the Hudson. My River Chronicles: Rediscovering America on the Hudson tells the story of this mechanic's daughter and Stanford graduate who had left her blue-collar upbringing behind until the fireboat drew her back, offering a chance to become an engineer and a taste of home she hadn't realized she was missing.

Outstanding Stories of Preservation and Industrial Adventures on a Historic and Inspiring American River
Revisado: 12-09-23
This book should be in all the school libraries in New York State, it was a very enjoyable listen (audiobook), well read by Jessica DuLong.
I could identify with Jessica's Engineering experience in learning diesel engines from my time and experience in the US Navy submarine service, and now as a nuclear power plant Operator. I wish your experience in preparing for the license exam had not been so frustrating!
Thank you for the chapters on 9/11, the Hudson River School painters, the industrial archaeology, and military history, too!

Historia
The New York Times Magazine’s award-winning “1619 Project” issue reframed our understanding of American history by placing slavery and its continuing legacy at the center of our national narrative. This new book substantially expands on that work, weaving together 18 essays that explore the legacy of slavery in present-day America with 36 poems and works of fiction that illuminate key moments of oppression, struggle, and resistance.
