I can't get enough of this series.
Revisado: 03-02-22
Amazing. We're brought back to the more traditional storyline (and classic protagonists, alongside some new faces) and it's like coming home to old friends - who are really good at KTF'ing lots of baddies. These guys put out books much more rapidly than so many other authors, but sadly they will never be able to write fast enough that I won't ever be without fresh Galaxy's Edge books to enjoy. If you haven't started this series, I highly recommend starting from the beginning and rejoining me here when you've enjoyed the whole saga!

'Tis the season for KTF
Revisado: 11-16-21
As I have lamented before, I'm running out of ways to keep reviewing this series without repeating myself or sounding like a bot. If I sound repetitive, it's only because Anspach and Cole keep writing such consistently enjoyable military sci-fi (as well as some other fun books!).
They're such great books, and they produce them so quickly relative to many other authors. I'm constantly afraid that my favorite authors will start phoning in their work and coasting on their success, but I'm happy to say I see no signs of that here. Here I am again, eagerly waiting for the next in the series!
KTF!

Historia
The darkest secrets stay hidden. Wraith, seeking to acquire intel on the mysterious Kill Team Ice, finds himself teamed up with an unlikely Nether Ops ally. Zora and Garret, in pursuit of a lost friend, will have their loyalty to Captain Keel tested. And the strain on Nilo and Black Leaf continues to grow, with unexpected intensity. For all of them, the path forward is a crooked one, weaving through House of Reason loyalists, Bronze Guild bounty hunters, brutal slavers, Legion operators, and the mysteries now emerging from the empty and foreboding space beyond galaxy’s edge.

Consistent greatness!
Revisado: 08-17-21
What more could you want in a science fiction series?
We've got epic overarching plots with fantastic heroes (and not perfect heroes who steal established protagonists' names, by the way) fighting insidious villains and stupid politicians.
All jokes aside, Anspach & Cole have been putting out more quality novels in shorter lengths of time than pretty much any author I love. They make Larry Corriea look like George RR Procrastinator.
This series has been and remains my favorite series. Ever. And that's saying something. I read them all on ebook ahead of time because I'm in the Galaxy's Edge Insiders, then get them as audio books and enjoy them all over again.
I get it, that maybe I'm biased. But at least listen to a book or two if you're thinking I'm not telling the truth! The books are amazing in their complexity and realism while still being some of the finest escapism you can enjoy. Start this series (or continue it), and I'm sure you'll have an amazing journey alongside the rest of us diehard fans!
(One of us! One of us!)

As an overwhelming army of skeletons, wraiths, ghouls, and other dark creatures - all serving a powerful undead sorcerer - advance against Forward Operating Base Hawthorn, the Rangers must now do what they do best: Go on the extreme offense. PFC Talker, attached to the weapons team section of a Ranger recon patrol led by Captain Knife Hand, recounts the harrowing attempt to destabilize this surreal and horrific nightmare force with everything the snipers, master breachers, and stone-cold killers of the Ranger regiment have in their bag of lethal tricks.

Revisado: 06-26-21
If you loved the first in the series, you'll love this one too! If you haven't read Forgotten Ruin, well, get that one and this one and enjoy them both for the first time, lucky guy.
I thoroughly enjoy the fleshed-out characters as they continue to explore their madcap new reality. Ancient problems require modern solutions; utilizing firepower and high explosives to solve their problems as only America's elite soldiers can, these guys would have cleared the mines of Moiria with style (Carl Gustaf don't care about no balrogs, baby).
The narration is excellent, which is unsurprising as it was in the first book as well.
Get it. You'll have a blast.

Historia
Surrounded and outgunned, a group of private military contractors known as “Strange Company” find themselves on a remote planet at the edge of known space, and on the losing end of a bad contract. Orbital D-beam strikes, dropships bristling with auto-guns, missiles, and troops - even Monarch space marines in state-of-the-art advanced battle rattle - will try to prevent the company from reaching the exfil LZ and getting off-world.

Another excellent (audio)book from Nick Cole!
Revisado: 03-24-21
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The closest comparison I can make is to the Black Company books, but even making that comparison is selling this wonderfully strange story short. If you've read other Nick Cole books, you know he has a good aptitude for writing some oddities and unusual settings, and there's definitely some recognizable tropes in this book (if also ramped up a good bit!).
Whereas his other excellent Sci-Fi novels have reasonably cut-and-dry Good Guys and Bad Guys (except for when they're not, haha), this story is focused on mercenaries. Mercenaries who straight up say that they're not always shooting the Bad Guys, because sometimes they're the ones that hold their contract.
Look, I know that might sound kinda overused nowindays, but there's a difference between Jayne Cobb saying something like that vs these guys; he's to friendly, outgoing, and altruistic for these guys....and he probably doesn't have sufficient weapons to fit in with them, anyway!

When a Joint Task Force of elite Rangers are transported to a strange and fantastic future where science and evolution have incarnated the evils of myth and legend, they find themselves surrounded, pinned down, and in a desperate fight for their very survival - against nightmares of flesh and blood made real. Can't decide between Military Sci-Fi or Fantasy?
Revisado: 03-01-21
Well, here's the solution to your conundrum. Told from the POV of some hardcore Rangers (as if there were any other kind), this story is the start of another great series from Anspach and Cole. Instead of fighting amazing aliens and twisted sci-fi humans, now we're taking on the magical and the bizarre (happily, the 240 cares not when it's angry and cyclic).
And when they run out of ammo, that's when a Ranger PFC gets to use a magic staff to channel their inner Harry Dresden and really go to town on the baddies. I mean, what's not to love?
Just like their excellent Galaxy's Edge series, the characters are all relatable and identifiable if you've spent anytime in the military (or just been around your share of military personnel). Perhaps they wanted to throw a bone to us nerd POGs, because the main character is a linguist who finds himself playing Ranger alongside the "real" hardcores and that makes me cheer for him all the harder. (Even if he breezed through DLI.)
Also true to form, the book is perfectly fine as a stand alone novel, but the authors already have book two coming. So unlike some authors with three initials and too many HBO deals, you don't have to worry about running out of entertainment or not getting sufficient bang for your buck (and resolution to the plot)!
These authors are on my "buy immediately" list for Audible and my Kindle. You might not end up enjoying their books quite as much as I do, but if you take the chance on them I bet at the very least you'll have a blast!

On Detron, a simmering protest boils over and turns deadly when militants hiding among the demonstrators deliberately shoot down a group of legionnaires, executing one survivor and taking two for ransom. The only Republic asset the captured leejes can rely on is a lone marine sniper who defies orders in a desperate attempt to save them. But a troubled sea of hostile riots, looting, and murder is too much for anyone to navigate safely.

If anyone reads all of my reviews for A&C, I'm scared they're gonna think I'm just a (Russian?) bot paid to leave reviews. I'm not, I promise. The problem is, all of the books are just so consistently great that I sound like I'm repeating myself. If they start sucking or repeating themselves or being a disappointment in some other way, I'll still review them fairly - thankfully, none of that has happened yet! 5 Stars, comrade! All well earned.

Revisado: 10-24-20
Seriously. Now, with the addition of Doc Spears to this world, the authors have brought in a new font of great stories to their universe. The amazing thing is, all of these books are entertaining adventures without being repetitive, and that's across all of the books in the GE universe. Great job with not only the writing, but the overall continuity and editing as well!
TL;DR - Another excellent military sci-fi romp. If you think you'll like it, you're probably correct!

The VIs' revolt succeeded. The digital beings took over the game world and ejected millions of players while keeping a few thousand trapped inside as their prisoners. In the real world, Oren Berman is recovering from the mental trauma of being trapped, tortured, and abruptly ejected. But the company has come to him, hat in hand, asking him to reenter the game world. With the entire NPC population arrayed against the trapped players, Oren and his clan of monsters might be their only hope.

The series stays great!
Revisado: 08-07-20
By happenstance, I think Life Reset was one of - if not *the* - first GameLit novels I read. The first three had a finality to their conclusion, and I was worried book four would really disappoint in that "did the story really need to continue" way some series do. I'm so glad my worries were proved wrong! I can hardly wait for the next book!
