Historia
I've been in this life for 50 years, been trying to work out its riddle for 42 and been keeping diaries of clues to that riddle for the last 35. Notes about successes and failures, joys and sorrows, things that made me marvel and things that made me laugh out loud. How to be fair. How to have less stress. How to have fun. How to hurt people less. How to get hurt less. How to be a good man. How to have meaning in life. How to be more me.

What a journey!
Revisado: 04-04-24
This incredible book takes you on a life-long adventure. Matthew is a brilliant storyteller and his performance in this book is excellent. I love how honest and humble he is. I've laughed, cried, and learned. He turns every obstacle into optimism and every hump in the road as a launching pad.

The rules for living in the real world have changed, because the world we live in has changed. Much of the conventional wisdom the last generation has passed on just doesn't apply like it once did. If you want to win, and win big, and, more importantly, keep what you work so hard for, you need a crystal-clear view of how the real world works - not how you wish it worked, but how it actually works.

Don't give anyone the benefit of the doubt
Revisado: 09-03-20
I've been a fan of Dr Phil's TV show for many years. This was the first time I've read one of his books and it was as if Dr Phil was in the room giving me life-changing advice. He confronts the norms and says things like "don't give anyone the benefit of the doubt" and why you shouldn't teach your kids to always obey adults and do what they say. Times have changed, we need to change with it. I loved this book. I found it jam-packed with excellent advice. I think I've paused this book more times than any other book I've listened to because I wanted to make notes. There was so much good stuff in the book, I've got pages and pages of notes. If you want to win at life and feel like you're stuck, maybe it's time you learn the new rules and proactively plan your future. Everyone should read/listen to this book if they want to win in life.

A revolutionary system to get one per cent better every day. People think when you want to change your life, you need to think big. But world-renowned habits expert James Clear has discovered another way. He knows that real change comes from the compound effect of hundreds of small decisions – doing two push-ups a day, waking up five minutes early, or holding a single short phone call. He calls them atomic habits.

Revisado: 03-05-20
I had heard so many good things about this book, and when Vishen Lakiani said it was one of the best books he read last year, I had to buy it. I was not disappointed! James presents his findings in such a memorable and practical way. I loved the chapter summaries at the end of each chapter. This book has been such a wonderful motivator for me. New Year's Resolutions that don't work are all because we try to create habits the wrong way. This book gives such good advice on how to do it right!

Historia
For David Goggins, childhood was a nightmare--poverty, prejudice, and physical abuse colored his days and haunted his nights. But through self-discipline, mental toughness, and hard work, Goggins transformed himself from a depressed, overweight young man with no future into a US Armed Forces icon and one of the world's top endurance athletes. The only man in history to complete elite training as a Navy SEAL, Army Ranger, and Air Force tactical air controller, he went on to set records in numerous endurance events.

Every young man (or woman) should read this.
Revisado: 09-27-19
As the mother of two boys, I kept thinking that they should be listening to this book. It's an incredible story of rags to riches, underdog to winner and so much in between. David Goggins is honest and shares his story with passion. The narrator asks him questions after each section and they discuss the themes in more detail. I found this tremendously rewarding. I also enjoyed how David poses challenges to the readers throughout the book so that we can enjoy a practical application of the lessons being taught. It was a little long-winded at times but still highly entertaining and worth the read. I recommend this to anyone who is not happy settling for being average.

Factfulness: The stress-reducing habit of carrying only opinions for which you have strong supporting facts. When asked simple questions about global trends - why the world's population is increasing; how many young women go to school; how many of us live in poverty - we systematically get the answers wrong. So wrong that a chimpanzee choosing answers at random will consistently outguess journalists, Nobel laureates, and investment bankers.

Eye-opening, inspiring!
Revisado: 09-27-19
This book will teach you how people rate the world more negatively than it truly is. This is predominantly because we are bombarded by negative stories in the news and sensationalized conversations. When looking at the facts, you will be surprised to discover that the world - the whole world, has made tremendous progress in multiple aspects. People are living longer, healthier, higher quality lives than in the past decades. It teaches you to no be swayed by news-mongering narratives, but to rather examine the facts. Factfulness will open your eyes and leave you optimistic about the really amazing world we live in.

Revisado: 09-27-19
I'm not a fan of horror, but selected this book as one of the two I get from Audible Originals every month. I'm SO HAPPY I DID! I have loved every minute of this book. It felt like I was listening to an old time radio story performance. The sounds, the performers, the music - my imagination was having a ball! The stories were intriguing, unpredictable and had me gripped to the end. Thank you for such an awesome gift. I'm definitely going to be looking out for volume 2!

Revisado: 09-26-19
I was looking forward to the thrilling part of thriller, but it never happened. Lovely characters but the plot was very thin. The narrator is excellent. The writing style was good. I felt that the story did not live up to my expectation of a thriller.

Thin on useful info - too much fluff.
Revisado: 07-15-19
This book came highly recommended by a successful writer I admire. However, I was disappointed by the content of the book. It's a short read with some interesting topics - but I feel that the information was not deep enough to add real value. I would have loved for him to delve a little deeper into these themes and provide more practical applications.

Historia
In June of 1999, Stephen King was hit by a van while walking along the shoulder of a country road in Maine. Six operations were required to save his life and mend his broken body. When he was finally able to sit up, he immediately started writing. This book - part biography, part a collection of tips for the aspiring writer - is the extraordinary result.

Part biography, part teaching, pure magic!
Revisado: 07-15-19
I was really surprised with Stephen King's courage and honesty with the stories he shares in this book. He shares his struggles with substance abuse, incredible partnership with his wife Tabitha and his unique approach to writing. I was particularly surprised to learn that he doesn't create a completed plot for his books before he starts writing and that he allows the characters and the stories to evolve over time. As he says, if even he doesn't know how the story will end, then there's no way his readers will be able to guess the ending.
This book is not a technical manual on writing or a recipe to follow step-by-step, but it does provide answers to many questions that Stephen has been asked over his career and a truly generous sharing of what works for him. It was as if I was sitting in the same room, listening to him share openly from his vast experience - the good times and the bad.
I loved the book. It is as entertaining as it is educational. I will apply some of the lessons he shared in my own career moving forward.

Take control of your life - here's how.
Revisado: 06-11-19
Mel Robbins delivers a brilliant book, jam-packed with practical advice, through real counselling sessions with real people who have real problems. I loved the honesty and authenticity of this book and could identify with almost all the people who shared their stories. Mel is insightful and challenges her clients (and her readers) to see through the clutter to discover the underlying causes of why we allow ourselves to become passive observers in our lives - rather than taking control and living with purpose. I took so many notes and had so many "A-ha!" moments, for which I am really grateful.
