Marvelous translation! Great audio narration!
Revisado: 06-22-18
First published in 1865, the faithful and incandescent rendering of Homer's Iliad by Edward, Earl of Derby is a pinnacle of the art of literary translation. Rather than attempt hexameters (a somewhat unnatural meter for English poetry), Derby used the verse form that best liberates the powers of the English language: blank verse. Invented by the genius Christopher Marlowe--who taught it to his roommate William Shakespeare--this is the meter of the strongest poetry in English. Derby is a master of both blank verse and Ancient Greek philology. Dikran Tulaine gives the best recitation of Homer in English I have ever heard, and I've heard quite a few. This is one of the best audiobooks ever made.

Lance deHaven-Smith asks tough questions and connects the dots among five decades' worth of suspicious events, including the assassinations of John and Robert Kennedy, the attempted assassinations of George Wallace and Ronald Reagan, the crimes of Watergate, the Iran-Contra arms-for-hostages deal, the disputed presidential elections of 2000 and 2004, the major defense failure of 9/11, and the subsequent anthrax letter attacks.

Timely, Brilliant, and Crucial to Democracy
Revisado: 03-09-18
A remarkable book that critiques the cynical management of domestic political thought by intelligence agencies in the U.S., particularly the CIA. The phrase “conspiracy theory” is a highly successful tool for preventing dissent, and marginalizing the dissenting authors and texts that do sometimes emerge in spite of such disinformation campaigns. A much-needed corrective to the flood of propaganda published every day by intellectual prostitutes in our country. Check out the author on You Tube.
This audiobook is also well-narrated.

Historia
“The problem of the twentieth century is the problem of the color line,” writes Du Bois, in one of the most prophetic works in all of American literature. First published in 1903, this collection of 15 essays dared to describe the racism that prevailed at that time in America—and to demand an end to it. Du Bois’ writing draws on his early experiences, from teaching in the hills of Tennessee, to the death of his infant son, to his historic break with the conciliatory position of Booker T. Washington.

Magnificent book--but the actor swallows his words
Revisado: 03-28-17
Is there anything you would change about this book?
The book itself is a work of genius.
What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?
Its originality and insight.
How could the performance have been better?
The actor swallows the ending of almost every sentence, so that the last few words are barely audible. This is terrible technique.
Was The Souls of Black Folk worth the listening time?
Yes!
