Insightful on economic, lacking in history
Revisado: 04-17-25
Great lesson on economic, especially currency and debt.
Author's history knowledge, especially, on China is lacking. He endorses the authoritarianism of the communist government, failing to acknowledge the slowdown of growth since mid 2010s, when the government reverse from cabinet group leadership back to autocracy of president Xi. Other book such as "Why nations fail" predicted its slowdown in 2012. A country can grow very quickly with large population, good work ethic, and technology to copy. But once they copy most technology, innovation are not encouraged under an extractive authoritarian regime.

Decent history Book
Revisado: 03-04-25
The gist of the the book is extractive country staggers (including those with great natural resource) and inclusive country triumph. It listed history of many countries to support this claim.
The book elaborate on the history of failure of Latin American and African country that fail. Most of those country are irrelevant. It would be more edifying if it talk more about political history about Europe, China, Canada etc, the relevant country.

Good insight, but not most practical
Revisado: 12-13-24
The author describe a ideal transparent meritocracy work place, and how to run it as its leader. However, its application is more limited to high level member of cooperate hierarchy, not for junior and mid level employees.

Historia
As David Brooks observes, “There is one skill that lies at the heart of any healthy person, family, school, community organization, or society: the ability to see someone else deeply and make them feel seen—to accurately know another person, to let them feel valued, heard, and understood.” And yet we humans don’t do this well. All around us are people who feel invisible, unseen, misunderstood. In How to Know a Person, Brooks sets out to help us do better, posing questions that are essential for all of us: If you want to know a person, what kind of attention should you cast on them?

Great direction, but vague in practice
Revisado: 11-07-24
The gist of the book is to listen to people's narrative and feeling, instead of trying to impress other with telling one's own achievement or merely talking about hobbies and jobs.
However, the book contain more metaphorical teaching and stories, than instruction for exact practice. I wish it contains much more latter.

Inspiring
Revisado: 10-28-24
Good book, especially its first three rule, inspired me profoundly. It says men like order, which is something repeating and predictable, not necessarily good: Being a fat loser who watch Neflix all day is also order! In fact, a loser would panic and not know what to do when they scores a small win! Men need to recognize this and actively explore unknown and chaos.
The Con of this book is that a lots of illustration and evidence are bible stories, which delivers little meaning for non-Christian.

ok story, not much to learn
Revisado: 09-09-24
As a story, it is not very appealing. It explain how successful Bill Campbell is, however, not exactly how, so the reader don't have much to learn. For example it describe Bill as a great friend and very popular that 2000 people would say Bill is one of their best friends. That doesn't even mathematically make sense, even if he spent all his waking hour constantly socializing.

Robert Iger became CEO of The Walt Disney Company in 2005, during a difficult time. Competition was more intense than ever, and technology was changing faster than at any time in the company’s history. His vision came down to three clear ideas: Recommit to the concept that quality matters, embrace technology instead of fighting it, and think bigger - think global - and turn Disney into a stronger brand in international markets.

Good
Revisado: 04-11-21
Covers many economic trend that are counter-intuitive, not shat one would infer with econ101 knowledge, and back them up with studies.
The author is not afraid to point out things that economists are not fully capabable, right now, of explaining, unlike most books whose narrative is that every thing is known already for a good certainty.

Paul Scharre, a Pentagon defense expert and former U.S. Army Ranger, explores what it would mean to give machines authority over the ultimate decision of life or death. Scharre's far-ranging investigation examines the emergence of autonomous weapons, the movement to ban them, and the legal and ethical issues surrounding their use. Through interviews with defense experts, ethicists, psychologists, and activists, Scharre surveys what challenges might face "centaur warfighters" on future battlefields.
