Historia
The Long Discourses of the Buddha (Dīgha Nikāya) is the first of the five Nikāyas (Collections) in the Sutta Pitaka and has its own particular character. Unlike the others which contain thousands of shorter discourses (suttas), it comprises just 34 but of much longer length - as the name indicates! This makes it in some ways a more focused collection of teachings of the Buddha and especially accessible in audio.

Poor translation
Revisado: 10-13-21
This translation different in many ways from the recent translations of early Buddhist discourses published by Bhikkhu Bodhi and Bhikkhu Analayo. Although the narrator was ok, I found this translation by Bhikkhu Sugato to be inaccurate and I won’t listen to it again.

Historia
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

A female protagonist adventure on the Moon
Revisado: 04-05-18
This story is told from the point of view of an immature adult female protagonist from a Saudi Arabian family background having improbable adventures on the Moon. The apparently multicultural society on the Moon was superficially represented by the book's characters. The world view of the protagonist seemed very American.
The technical details might appeal to engineers. The humour may suit teenagers. The narration was ok though the German English and other non-American English accents were poorly done charactures.
The audiobook may be an entertaining way to pass time.

Historia
Paris, 1933: Three contemporaries meet over apricot cocktails at the Bec-de-Gaz bar on the rue Montparnasse. They are the young Jean-Paul Sartre, Simone de Beauvoir, and longtime friend Raymond Aron, a fellow philosopher who raves to them about a new conceptual framework from Berlin called phenomenology. "You see," he says, "if you are a phenomenologist, you can talk about this cocktail and make philosophy out of it!"

Historia
Dhammapada means "the path of dharma", the path of harmony and righteousness that anyone can follow to reach the highest good. This classic Buddhist scripture is a collection of vivid, practical verses gathered from direct disciples who wanted to preserve what they had heard from the Buddha himself. Easwaran's translation of this classic Buddhist text is the best-selling translation in the US.

Hindu spin Buddhadharma
Revisado: 01-11-17
I was impressed with Eknath's commentary and translation of the Bhagavad-Gita and anticipated a similar experience with this commentary and translation of the Dharmapada. I was disappointed. The long introduction is incorrect on many points and distorts the Buddha's teachings seemingly to make it conform with his understanding of Hinduism. For example, he stated that the third jhana (dhyana) is nirvana and failed to mention the higher forth jhana or the four formless bases that may be attained beyond the fourth jhana. Apart from the flawed introduction, the translation of the Dharmapada itself is ok. I suggest people choose an alternate book.

Historia
In The Body Keeps the Score, Bessel van der Kolk transforms our understanding of traumatic stress, revealing how it literally rearranges the brain’s wiring - specifically areas dedicated to pleasure, engagement, control, and trust. He shows how these areas can be reactivated through innovative treatments including neuro feedback, mindfulness techniques, play, yoga, and other therapies.

Outstanding - everyone must read
Revisado: 10-05-15
This book is full of fascinating and useful information. The narrator was read well and did not distract from the text.
I learned a lot about trauma and the many ways to learn from it and recover. This book is full of tools and gives me hope that we can find the political will to actually implement many of the therapies outlined in this wonderful book.
I will listen to this book at least one more time. I also have the Kindle version so I can annotate. I have recommended this book to friends and family. I might buy a paper back to give a friend who prefers real books.

Good book, bad reader
Revisado: 06-02-15
I gave up listening to the audio version after 10 minutes. The reader tried a poor hard boiled detective style. His patronising attempt at Chinese accent was woeful. I could not bear it. I read the paperback many years ago and will have to read this fascinating book again.

Historia
Man’s Search for Meaning is the chilling yet inspirational story of Viktor Frankl’s struggle to hold on to hope during the unspeakable horrors of his years as a prisoner in Nazi concentration camps. Between 1942 and 1945 Frankl labored in four different camps, including Auschwitz, while his parents, brother, and pregnant wife perished. Based on his own experience and the experiences of those he treated in his practice, Frankl argues that we cannot avoid suffering, but we can choose how to cope with it, find meaning in it, and move forward with renewed purpose.
