A futuristic artifact from the past
Revisado: 06-20-17
Take the nascent cultural elements of the late 1960's and early 70's, extrapolate, and imagine. An excellent book with lots to think about. A well performed mostly first person tale.
Where are we going? This is one guided tour and also a parable about man's warlike nature and intolerance.
And a nice bit of SciFi too. A good listen.

Historia
Marjorie Dawe is a librarian and takes her job - and indeed the truth of words - very seriously. She doesn't know it, but her world and ours - Roundworld - is in big trouble. On Discworld, a colossal row is brewing. The Wizards of the Unseen University feel responsible for Roundworld (as one would for a pet gerbil). After all, they brought it into existence by bungling an experiment in Quantum ThaumoDynamics.

Good but dense
Revisado: 06-01-16
The discWorld side story is fun and relevant as usual. The science is at times very dense but also very solid. Tougher to grasp and retain in audio.
Overall very good.

Historia
Right before the wise old wizard Drum Billet died, he passed on his magical staff of power to the newborn eighth son of an eighth son. Unfortunately, Drum Billet never bothered to check the gender of the newborn baby, and it turns out to be a girl. Now his chauvinistic colleagues are forced to deal with a young girl who has all the qualifications to join their all-male profession. Terry Pratchett's third Discworld novel, Equal Rites, asks many provocative questions about magic, where it goes, where it comes from, and why.

More Pratchett fun
Revisado: 09-18-12
Would you listen to Equal Rites again? Why?
Possibly, to better catch the hilarious metaphors and obscure allusions which fly by.
What other book might you compare Equal Rites to and why?
The other Discworld books and Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Why? Wit.
What about Celia Imrie’s performance did you like?
She managed to have enough voices to carry the story without pictures. Tough to do.
Any additional comments?
It's another test of ones cultural and historical knowledge as Pratchett riffs on (in this case) the women's movement, university life, and the archetype of the country bumpkins making good in the city. Fun.
