This is an unexpected food memoir that takes the reader from Carcassonne—where the author encounters colourful characters that teach her the secrets of Cassoulet, to her mother's childhood during occupied France, in WWII.

Bigar diggs deep into the complexities of her family dynamics that lead to discovering her food language.

The style is cinematic, with humour and reverence for history. A fine read along the lines of Elizabeth David and Luke Barr.

An excellent memoir incredibly so soulful full of soul explorations. Not to be missed.
This memoir is also an interesting insight into the world of Hollywood. And

I really like Kassia St Clair’s writing and her books are incredibly well researched. I enjoyed both the hardcover and audible of Secret Lives of Colour. Unfortunately, I couldn’t listen to more than a couple of chapters of The Golden Thread because the reader’s voice is crackly and brittle. I kept raising the volume but the uneven tones of her voice made it hard to listen. I ended up buying the hardcover version.

…en este audio libro. A través de la voz del narrador los personajes se convierten en seres tridimensionales. Lo escuché dos veces ya!

…and by that I mean it has history, philosophy, life stories. It is easy to see why it is Hayao Miyazaki’s favourite book. I highly recommend this for young and less-young adults.

I use the teachings of this book for many things not just to lose weight. The practices that I learned stuck with me.

Story about an unusual romance between an elderly professor and her former student, told through the seasons in Tokyo. The descriptions are very colourful and overall this book gave me a sense of peace.

There is no question the author knows his subject and although at times and specially in the beginning the book is dull, overall is a very interesting story of early global commerce. The variations in volume and tone of voice of the author makes this book very hard to listen to. I tried putting the volume all the way up and even then when he emphasises a word instead of projecting his voice he whispers. If you can read this book in other formats I highly recommend that you do.

I listened to this book during the summer and can't wait for book II. Peckham draws the reader into the treacherous world of Children of the Black Glass with vivid images and complex characters. The narrator's voice and production value are great as well. Highly recommended!
