Historia
In 2059, two vastly different groups of people portrayed by the compelling trio of Brendan Fraser (Academy Award winner), Luke Kirby (Emmy Award winner), and Vanessa Sears (Dora Award winner) undergo cryonic suspension. While their bodies are frozen, their minds, still active and awake, are uploaded into a massive quantum computer. The first group are all astronauts, about to leave Earth on a one-way interstellar colonization mission. The second group consists of convicted murderers and volunteers who elect to serve their sentences in a virtual-reality prison.

I’ve always been a fan of fellow Canadian Robert Sawyer. I’m glad to see he’s still writing good work, and performances were fantastic. Brendan Fraser!

Historia
Dr. Tyson Klein is a quantum physicist who has dedicated his entire life to his research. At CERN, he analyses data generated by the Large Hadron Collider, the world's biggest and most powerful particle accelerator. Now, Ty believes he's found a pattern in its output. It looks like an organised data stream, being broadcast over what he calls a quantum radio. Could it be a signal from another universe? A message sent from the future? Or something else entirely?

Just like the TV show sliders, but not as good….
Revisado: 01-04-25
…..and that’s saying something.
So, I figure he really liked quantum leap and sliders and wanted to put them together into some world jumping series. Warning, it is a series of books…. Maybe. Maybe he realised he was just copying sliders and realised without Jerry O’Connell there’s no point.

Historia
In retreat from a devastating loss and crushing injustice, Katie lives alone in a fortresslike stone house on Jacob’s Ladder island. Once a rising star in the art world, she finds refuge in her painting. The neighboring island of Ringrock houses a secret: a government research facility. And now two agents have arrived on Jacob’s Ladder in search of someone—or something—they refuse to identify. Although an air of menace hangs over these men, an infinitely greater threat has arrived, one so strange even the island animals are in a state of high alarm.

Historia
Leland Gaunt opens a new shop in Castle Rock called Needful Things. Anyone who enters his store finds the object of his or her lifelong dreams and desires: a prized baseball card, a healing amulet. In addition to a token payment, Gaunt requests that each person perform a little "deed", usually a seemingly innocent prank played on someone else from town. These practical jokes cascade out of control, and soon the entire town is doing battle with itself. Only Sheriff Alan Pangborn suspects that Gaunt is behind the population's increasingly violent behavior.

Revisado: 12-14-24
Needfull things is not his strongest book. I have no idea why he wants to narrate his own stories. Sounds like he’s doing it in his basement. I can picture him pressing play on a Toshiba tape recorder so we can all enjoy that very awkward music
Greatest writer ever though.

Historia
In a small Alaska town, a boy is found with his throat ripped out and all the blood drained from his body. The inhabitants of Deadhart haven’t seen a killing like this in twenty-five years. But they know who’s responsible: a member of the Colony, an ostracized community of vampyrs living in an old mine settlement deep in the woods.

The book is okay. But honestly, I don’t know how I feel about equating the undead with the plight of native Americans…..
Optically, I’m just not sure it would read the way the author would’ve hoped for.

Brings me back
Revisado: 11-04-24
I loved playing Call of Cthulhu in high school…. in the 80s. This was so reminiscent of that game that I truly enjoyed the trip. For something that I’m pretty sure is based on a role playing game, and written by people who starred out around a table with their friends, I’m very impressed with how it was written, edited, and performed. I am very happy they decided to elevate those experiences into something we could all enjoy.
Looking for another one from the series right now.

Historia
They came to the deserted island to compete on a popular reality television show. Each one hoped to be the last to leave. Now they're just hoping to stay alive, because the island isn't deserted after all. Contestants are disappearing, but they aren't being eliminated by the game. They're being taken by the monstrous, half-human creatures that live deep in the jungle. The men will be slaughtered. The women will be kept alive as captives. Night is falling, the creatures are coming, and rescue is so far away....

I did listen to the whole thing…..
But, to summarize my thoughts, and to give potential listeners a sense of the maturity level of the book, the author spent more time describing the creatures “members“ than describing the creatures themselves.

Historia
In "Strange Highways," a floundering alcoholic gets a mysterious second chance to relive the night his life began its downward spiral 20 years ago. But on this dark journey, he’ll be supremely tested by conflict with his successful, charismatic older brother, his loss of faith, and the clash between good and the ultimate evil. Sink into this binge-worthy collection of beloved Koontz short stories, featuring denizens of hell, vengeful children, and eerily human-like robots that will send shivers down your spine.

Great stories, but essentially the same as “Wilderness.“
Revisado: 01-22-24
I’ve come to like this author more and more, especially as I grow older..:: absolutely, nothing wrong with these short stories, some of them are really good, but I thought people should know that if you already have Wilderness, you’re pretty much buying the same book. Only the first one was different…. perhaps for the benefit of the Sample?
My poor review would go to whoever decided to make the first story different, the title of it being “strange highways“ and then make the rest of it a copy of another audiobook.

Please, please do not make this the first one of his contact series that you listen to!
Revisado: 09-02-23
I have liked every one of his standalone first contact books. This was actually the last one of them that I bought. I have listened to all of them. So …. he is good, and I like his stories, and they are sometimes very unique in their perspective. This was definitely not one of them.
His other stories showed us how aliens can have absolutely… alien perspectives. This just felt like that Star Trek episode with the half white half Black down the middle people.
Good thing, Captain Kirk came to the planet to set them straight.
I suppose if this was a movie made in the 70s, and it felt a little like that, the floating brains might’ve been out of their budget. But hell, they would’ve looked funny if they tried.
That being said, I am very happy this was not the first of his books i listened to. I honestly think all the other ones were good.
So I wasn’t going to…, not listen to this one. I like the other ones so much, he still deserve my credit. :)
