A Double Listen!
Revisado: 04-22-24
This book deserves 10 thumbs up— it’s well plotted with a unique storyline, has fantastic, quirky characters that draw you in & best of all it’s hilarious. Then the cherry on the cake was fantastic narrators. After listening I immediately went back to chapter 1 & started over again: a double listen almost never happens in my world. I have already pre-ordered book 2 and am counting the days until it’s June release.

I have a simple plan. Finish Royal Elite School and get into my dream university. One glance from the school’s king blows my plan up in smoke. One glance and he suffocates my air. One glance and he issues his death sentence. His first words spiral my life into irreparable chaos. “I will destroy you.” Everything about Aiden King is black. Black mind. Black heart. Black soul. I should’ve remained quiet and endured the time I have left. I didn’t. I made the irrevocable mistake of provoking the king on his throne.

World building interesting
Revisado: 08-30-22
In the beginning I rolled my eyes multiple times listening to this first book of the series. Yea yea I get that its the setup for the entire world building, it’s plot and character development. But I never (and still can’t) buy into these being high schoolers —elite academy or not. The characters just act more in their mid-20s than 16-17 year olds. Also I didn’t feel that the world building was as smooth as it should be.
BUT…once I ignored those things and listened as the plot began to develop especially towards the end of book 1 and into book 2, I actually began to like the book. I originally bought the book bc I was interested in the bully romance genre— like what the heck is it? But it’s rather tame and more like uber controlling alpha men and highly emotional (or even disturbed) women. It took a while for me to warm up to the genre. Now I am starting book 3 and I’m absolutely invested in the characters and world. Rina Kent is a great writer and I have enjoyed her other books. The characters voices are strong and realistic. The narration was excellent. So overall if you’re undecided while listening try to push through as the plot definitely develops.

Panting for #3
Revisado: 01-27-14
This is the "middle" of the story and I get that this part is needed to move along the love story between Sevastyn and Natalie, but it did drag at times. If these 3 releases were all wrapped into one book it would be much much smoother and less start/stop. Sevastyn and Natalie still have great chemistry and its a short story so it needs to jump quickly to the "point" but this could have been much better done if it was a novel that gave more room for expanding the characters. I still think its a great book, but suggest that you wait until Part 3 is released then listen to them back-to-back. I am still waiting for Part 3 and have pre-ordered, so its still well worth a listen! Cole is still a fav of mine.

Ho-hum....
Revisado: 01-27-14
Dark Lycan is certainly better than Dark Wolf-- i listened to them back to back (well..okay tried to..). But in both stories the character dialogue feels dated, stiff and forced. Sexual chemistry, magical worlds and romance is replaced with battle scenes and awkward dialogue. I have read and listened to the Dark series and never have felt this way. I wonder if Feehan needs to be inspired with a new series. If you just love Feehan and HAVE to read her, then choose Dark Lycan as it is the better of the two. Dark Wolf you might throw out the window. I feel cheated somehow. I just expected so much more from Feehan.

Happiness in Harper
Revisado: 01-27-14
Mo & Cooper are a great star-crossed lovers, with lots of laughs in between. Harper's writing flows smoothly and she never over-complicates a story but gives it a smooth finish and enough imagination that you are drawn in. I enjoyed the vamp series much more than the Alaska werewolves, but it is still well worth the credit. Never overtly filled with sex (which is nice sometimes), Molly is great at dialogue & characters that are spot-on and so realistic i can hear & see the characters vividly. Always a smooth, happy and entertaining read. The Alaska were's series were my holiday listen and they were pitch perfect for the season.

Cole is dipping her toes....
Revisado: 01-27-14
I love Kresley Cole with a passion. She is a brilliant author and I listen and re-listen to her Immortals After Dark series-- A Hunger Like no Other is still an all time fav! I was wondering if she could pull off contemporary erotica/rom, but she delivered! This story is sexy, silly, and stomach clinching all at the same time. Its the typical "Cinderella" type story-- normal girl becomes a princess after meeting the hot Russian prince. Natalie and Aleksandr are white hot explosive together and I can feel the sexual tension and attraction between them. I found Natalie a tad annoying in the beginning with her waffling youngish behavior, but then i remembered, she is young! I tell you, if i could mail order an alpha lover---- Aleksandr would do just fine for me. Their chemistry could have been racketed up a tad more if they had more angst-y fighting while "courting" --- but this is pure princess fantasy & a short story to boot, so it still works for me. Just listened to book 2 and counting down to book 3!
The only annoying part is WAITING! Why-oh why did they do that?
Cole should have just published this as a full book-- one shot. Not drawn it out by dipping her toes in to see if her fans freak or pull away. It is annoying to get into a listen then suddenly be doused with a cold shower while your all revved up.....Plunge in Cole....

In Dark Lycan, Christine Feehan journeyed into the heart of the Carpathians, and into the souls of two lifemates stirred by the flush of passion and the threat of annihilation. In Dark Wolf, the breathtaking story continues as the bonds of family are imperiled, and the fate of two lovers lies hidden in the seductive shadows between life and death.

Feehan a huge let down...
Revisado: 01-27-14
Feehan is the queen of para romance, and I love the Dark Carpathian series, but i feel like lately she needs to be re-energized. Is she bored with her own plot lines? Because i am. Skyler & Dimitiri had no magic, barely there romance and far too many battle scenes. Skyler's character and conversations made me cringe. I kept rolling my eyes thinking, "no one would say that". In fact i turned it off 75% through the story. The characters interactions were stilted, dated and lacked any inspiration what so ever. What is up Feehan? I was annoyed with both these characters so much that I yelled at them at one point. Skyler's tortured abuse history is a great plot to add dimension but her behavior was unrealistic and immature-- the conversations between her character and her lover were frustrating. Dimitri played the dutiful warrior and his behavior towards Skyler was sickly sweet and disingenuous. This listen lacked the para-magic, intrigue and romance on all fronts. Not very well done, Ms. Feehan. Not at all.

Strangely intriguing...
Revisado: 01-27-14
I am not sure if I hate this book or I like it-- maybe it needs a second read. Its obviously an early work by Singh, as her style is much more immature and does not have as much depth of character as her Psy/changling books. But the overall plot and characters somehow still fascinated me-- i am not sure why! The hurried chapter 1 "wham bam" arranged marriage was weird, and kinda creepy, but after that it was like they were dating! They interacted like they just met-- although they supposedly had been close years before. I have listened to much worse and this never made me want to chuck my iphone across the room, so i am giving it 3 stars-- that three is probably on the low end of 3.

not all hellhounds are the same....
Revisado: 01-27-14
It is a good light, very light, PG-13 listen. Nothing to swoon over but it gets you through a traffic jam. Not all the stories even had hellhounds in them, so that was a stretch and seemed forced by the publisher. The romances were light, character mostly interesting, sex-scenes very YA-- not gonna get the blood pumping thats for sure. Nalini Singh was, of course, the best story of the lot-- but i am a big fan of hers so no surprise there. I have not read Harris previously-- & not sure i want to after this short story. Andrews: I read one of her books and now might go back and give her another try! Brook-- well she might surprise us one of these days.
Overall, not bad, but certainly nothing earth shattering or to write a gushing review about. Good clean fun, as they say.

Generations of werewolves have been secretly residing in a secluded valley a stones throw from Grundy, Alaska. So when a snooping Outsider comes to Grundy to investigate rumors of lycanthropic shenanigans in the area, the valleys pack alpha, Maggie Graham, resolves to chase him away, even if doing so takes a quick bite on the butt. What a pity that researcher Nick Thatcher turns out to be so drool-worthy, and that his kisses make Maggie want to sit up and beg.

Molly Harper is always funny, and I truly think she can pick me up, no matter what mood i am in. The Alaska werewolf series isn't as engrossing (for me) as the vamp series, but its still very much worth the listen. I listened to the Alaska were-series over the winter holidays, and was totally engrossed. Nick and Maggie hit the right note of innocent first love story and hot romance, sprinkled with a bit of family/pack angst. Maggie's internal struggle seemed spot on and very believable. Nick was humanly hot and down to earth. It was a great LOL ride.
