I enjoyed this story, but it ended too abruptly. It needed a epilogue where they're together or the recap of what happens when there marriage is announced with Evimire's annoyance at being bowed to and called 'highness' and what the Fall out and such was. It just felt like a sudden end and I needed more. The narrator was good and it was a unique fantasy historical blend.

I enjoyed this take on the classic honeymoon-gone-wrong trope. The characters were full and interesting, coupled with compelling backstories full of history and trauma (a delightful trend I am seeing with this author in her books). I quite enjoy how it's not a shallow romance novel and takes time to showcase past injustices, such as talking about the community sanctioned gay bashing that occurred openly and frequently in the past. The voice actor was phenomenal and was such a joy to listen to (no idea how accurate an aussie accent it was...but it was hot none the less!).

This book did a great job of slowly building up the couples relationship and showing strong examples of a demi relationship.

I enjoyed the dark fantasy of this story, it had some great plot twists and turns that I didn't expect coupled with lots of steamy, spicy scenes. This book isn't for the faint of heart as there is a lot of dark themes and kinks involved.

This is probably my favorite of the series. It has all the gooey love story fun, but also showcases a compelling story that brings up past traumas for the characters and makes them face it all too.
All characters confront high school trauma and have to face when they were hurt...but also when they hurt other people. Too often romance novels wouldn't showcased Lance as the self-righteous 'I've never done anything wrong' gay character who's written as a perpetual victim. It's nice that it was shown that while he did go through hard stuff, that he was also in the wrong when lashing out at Billy. It made him a dynamic and real character with depth and dimension!
The book was a change in the structure of it all as it was only written from Lance's perspective, where as the earlier books all jump in between both love interests perspective almost every other chapter. It wasn’t a bad choice, but was a surprising writing shift in the series.
The author does a good job of incorporating the previous books llmaon characters into the current narrative, whilw this is a common trope in the romance genre, most with other authors it feels quite forced and strange as a whole. It is nice that this author makes the incorporations seamless and they are meaningful interactions as opposed to simply 'guest appearances'.

A strong way to end this series. Author does a good job of balancing out the characters and giving actual growth to both love interests. Ilea was a phenomenal character to have reoccurring throughout the entire book series, and we are glad to have him and Shane get there final HEA.

Fun characters, Eric is a nice change of pace from the other lead characters in this series, and Kyle has the most dynamic of all the lover interests outside of Ilha, yet there were issues with the character developement. I am left disappointed and wanting more as the author never fully dives into these characters and resolved or addresses their full issues and problems. It's all these little things that make a good story great, and this series falls short of great.

Author has issues with a lack of development in their queer love interests in this series (books 1, 3 and 4), it seems that the only characters that actually grows and changes are the hockey players who were coming out. Once again Eric grows and changes a lot, while Kyle is basically the same character as the end of the book as he was in the beginning. Additionally, this series (books 1, 3 and 4) never has the queer love interest actually try and do anything to save their relationships, it always falls onto Hockey players to actually come forward or change in order to save the relationship for the "big fight that ended things". This is the 3rd book in this series where a massive fight leads to the final get together make up (books 1,3,4). Author needs to expand beyond these repetitive tropes and overused romance archetypes.

Kyle never really confronted his feelings for Kip...he just got over them in an instant when he started sleeping with Eric. Those feelings were built up a lot in the beginning and middle of the book for him to just magically 'get over' Kip without any introspection, conclusions drawn, or realizations.

No resolution to Kyle's backstory. Kyle's parents and past events were such a major part of his character, yet there were no resolution or confrontations with that arc. Makes for a lack of character developement. It would have been amazing if he'd had to face his parents, or call them out, or even seen or interacted with his ex lover to help him overcome some of his trauma or deal with his own issues.

Would have been nice if Erics ex wife was actually a confidant or character in the book that Eric could interact with and go to. As Scott was basically useless as a friend to help Eric through any of these sex and relationship issues.

Continuity error: one of the hockey players mentions at the party that he was leaving because the bar didn’t serve food, but at the end of the book the bar apparently had a chef named Lucy who served food.

Kyle's is written as an assertive person , it was strange given how he desires to some day run or own a bar, but didn't make an effort to attempt to manage the Kongfisher or try to buy it himself through his family's money when he complained so much how Gus wasn't doing anything with the place. I feel like this was something that Kyle would have been working on or striving to do slowly. Sad that it was just a prince charming situation where is was all Eric that gave it to Kyle.

Final fight: Eric needed to say that he felt like a 'dirty old man' when he thought about their age difference, or that he felt like he was taking advantage of Kyle...just like the ex lover did to 18 year old Kyle. How he felt like cliche being a divorcee with a young lover. He just harps on the age difference without explaining it more, so it comes off as shallow as opposed to any true or deeper meanings.

The final massive fight is quite contrived and jammed into this book just to add stakes to their relationships..split. it feels forced, where as previous books it was more organic and flowed. This book would have been better, if the fight continued and their emotions released all their pent up feelings and love and wanting more. Spilling it all out there to talk through and resolve. The forced fight/break up for 2 months before the magically "I'm sorry" conversation, just wasn't necessary here and feels rushed, forced, and unnecessary.

Kyle never actually apologies for anything at the fight at the end of the book, not even for his part of the fight that is heavily fueled by his own fears, anxieties and hurts from past trauma with his older exbf. The fight and issues and miscommunicating isn't all just on Eric's shoulder, Kyle has some blame here too.

Cinnamon bon hockey player loves a self-centered and bratty musician

Wonderful voice acting, but story has issues. This story is the epitome of "Change for me" and represents a lot of the bad themes of the genre. Ryan is a sweet, cinnamon roll character with all the built in sexiness and social anxieties that we love.

Fabian is a wonderful idea of a character, except he has little to no character growth and is incredibly selfish. He doesn't change or grow at all throughout the story. No, "Oh I thought I'd never date a hockey player and now I am" is not growth or change. He never even offered to attend a game or really make any effort into learning about Ryan. The two times he sort of tried, it was immediately proven that Fabian was right to hate Hockey and it's violent aspects. No effort shown, while Ryan constantly went to anything and everything to support Fabian.

Ryan changed his style, wardrobe, housing, furniture, his job, and worked to alleviate his anxieties and CONSTANTLY stepped out his comfort zone in social events in order to do things for Fabian. What effort did Fabian make? Nothing except 'oh one time I sorta watch part of a hockey game you played in'. Basically, Fabian DOESN'T deserve Ryan. A selfish and self centered character never deserves a good hearted one.

Fabian represents the moral high ground: He's never wrong. His opinion is correct. He knows better! Big dumb hockey man needs smart musician to tell him to stop playing hockey. Fabian's lifestyle is shown as the 'right' or 'correct' way, while everything about Ryan is shown to be wrong.

Fabian never actually has to confront his own biases against hockey from his own youth other then mentioning that they're there. The story justifies his moral high ground at every turn, so he only comments 'Oh it's not about my dislike of hockey players, it's about your health'....despite at every turn of this book his hatred is constantly shown to be influencing him. It was incredibly disappointing to have Fabian be 'completely right' at the end of the story.

His only growth was 'maybe I shouldn't have walked out when things got hard....or maybe I should have tried to be more supportive of Ryan', but then didn't actually make any effort to reach out to Ryan to fix anything either. He didn't even apologize for anything until AFTER Ryan told him he was quitting hockey, which was what Fabian wanted all along, then he's like 'oh you don't have to quit hockey for me' and 'I should've been more supportive'.

All Fabian's bad traits and lack of development are written to be 'acceptable' because the author made Ryan be unhappy and discontent with Hockey at the start, and his health issues later in the book. Otherwise everything Fabian does is that of a selfish, self-absorbed, brat of a lover whom wants his man to completely change everything about himself and his life in order to fit into Fabian's life without any understanding or compromise on his own part, nor effort to actually try to be in Ryan's world.

Example: Ryan spends a lot of time around and getting to know all of Fabian's friends, yet Fabian never once meets Ryan's BBF Wyatt.

Frankly the only redeeming quality of Fabian was his ever present consciousness to Ryan's comfort level during sex and worked with his anxieties in general.

In the end, Fabian got everything he wanted without any real effort or growth change, Ryan literally changed everything about himself throughout the book, while Fabian is basically the same character at the end as in the beginning.

This is a disappointing follow up book.

I enjoyed this book more then the first one. I think the characters are better flushed out and their slow-burn romance had a perfect growth trajectory. It was nice that the author didn't replicate herself by having them do another big public coming out for the hockey players like in the first book, as it would've been too easy/cheesy to do that just to get to a HEA.

Overall, good characterizations. In general, there was not too many stereotypes. Some hot intimacy scenes with an interesting story, that made me want more. I liked the Brooklyn accent for Kip as I feel it gave a unique twist to the character and really sold the 'good guy from a blue collar family'.
I believe Scott had more character developments then kip did. Scott changed the most, whereas kip only really had some internal change.
It would have been nice to if kip spoke more about his insecurities and how he felt less than scotts. It was mentioned in their fights But would have been nice to have him showing working through those and coming to understand that he was 'worthy' of Scott even if he only worked at a smoothie shop, bc Scott wanted him and not what he did or could do for Scott.
The timetable of kip's breakdown happened too soon, the quickness of it made less believable. Kip would say that scott was worth it to wait and to deal with him being closeted, but then he barely waited any time. It makes more sense if the timetable was stretched to they were together 6+ months before he snapped.
