What did I just read
Revisado: 02-06-25
This story started off slow and then it sucker punched me. Pleasantville mixed with law and order SVU and I don’t even know what else. This story was disturbing and intriguing. Seeing darkness within a suburban neighborhood and the lives that are impacted. There was a stream of consciousness that made me ache for the little boy but also realizing what was going on I get chills thinking about what HE was doing. This was a twisted yet very good read.

Historia
Jada Pinkett Smith was living what many would view as a fairy-tale of Hollywood success. But appearances can be deceiving, and as she felt more and more separated from her sense of self, emotional turmoil took hold. Sparing no detail, Worthy chronicles her life.

Hey story her way.
Revisado: 10-28-23
I laughed, I cried, and I wanted more. Jada peels back the layers and welcomed us into her life. I appreciated the tips and how she wasn’t afraid to let us in the ugly parts of her story. There were parts where I wanted to hug her, parts where I related to her and parts where my jaw hit the floor. This was a good read.

Historia
Stephen A. Smith has never been handed anything, nor was he an overnight success. Growing up poor in Queens, the son of Caribbean immigrants and the youngest of six children, he was a sports-obsessed kid who faced struggles, from undiagnosed dyslexia to getting enough cereal to fill his bowl. As a basketball player at Winston-Salem State University, he got a glimmer of his true calling when he wrote a newspaper column arguing for the retirement of his own Hall of Fame coach, Clarence Gaines.

This was the vulnerable truth we all didn’t know we needed. I laughed, cried, prayed and realized singing things I didn’t want to… marriage is hard. But we aren’t alone.

Historia
Joan Morgan offers a provocative and powerful look into the life of the modern Black woman: a complex world in which feminists often have not-so-clandestine affairs with the most sexist of men, where women who treasure their independence frequently prefer men who pick up the tab, and where the deluge of babymothers and babyfathers reminds Black women who long for marriage that traditional nuclear families are a reality for less than 40 percent of the population.
