Outstanding
I learned about this amazing woman while reading Supreme Court Justice Ketinji Brown Jackson’s book, Lovely One. This is a well researched book written by an author who has given Judge Baker Motley, the respect she is due. As I complete this reading I continue to search for more books that share the truth and strength of women like this author and those who reveal the hidden stories that some don’t want us to know.

There is something here that kept me reading.

I remember the news reports of Willow Brook and the pictures of the deplorable conditions there. I found this book to be very predictable. This is not the kind of reading that I usually invest in . But there was something about this book that I couldn’t back away from. So I continued reading.

To listen or read this book is to experience the journey that many take to give their children and themselves the things that so many take for granted. It’s not about criminals, those who come to take. Or colonizers who come to conquer and oppress. It’s about children and their families, those who have much to contribute. Read this book and find compassion. Read this book and heal your heart and give it a chance to beat again for yourself and others.

I learned so much while listening to this book. Too often our understanding of entertainers and public figures are limited to media gossip. It’s not until people like Cher take the bold step of writing about themselves that we learn not only about their talents but also about their strengths and struggles that contribute to their success.

This writer has provided us interesting stories. I especially enjoyed the last story of the 65 year old woman who bowled.

I enjoyed listing to this book. The short stories don’t necessarily reflect a culture of Brown people . While I valued this writer’s work I caution all readers not to make generalizations of cultures that they are unfamiliar with.

A great book for a book club read. Even better, if you have a condo board you might want to use this humorous book as a tool of self examination asking the question, “what is a good neighbor?”
