Historia
Lucy Sullivan is 26 and living it up (and occasionally down) in London. Hers is a life of quiet, undisciplined desperation. But when she and three friends visit a psychic for a bit of fun and the woman's predictions start coming true, Lucy is horrified. For the fortune-teller insisted she'd soon be married - within the year, in fact. Not only does Lucy not have a boyfriend, but the chances of getting one are looking slim. Between the bottles of wine, antidepressants and her addiction to self-help books, she's not quite ready to walk, or even stumble, down the aisle sober.

Excellent performance but dated story
Revisado: 01-23-24
I definitely enjoyed the listen, the narrator was very good at juggling a large cast of characters. The story was very characteristic of the 1990s, with strong Bridget Jones vibes (originally published the same year). This is very much Chick Lit, which is a genre that has disappeared. It was good to see Lucy grow and mature and there are things about the story that appreciated that I might not have when I was younger. The story has some dated aspects with things like fat-shaming that wasn’t great. But, it is of its time, and if read as an artifact of the 1990s it is interesting. I’m glad I listened to it, since I missed it back in the 1990s.

Historia
Spending her thirtieth birthday alone is not what dating columnist Cleo Wilder wanted, but she plans a solo retreat―at the insistence of her boss―in the name of re-energizing herself and adding a new perspective to her column. The remote Irish island she’s booked is a far cry from London, but at least it’s a chance to hunker down in a luxury cabin and indulge in some self-care while she figures out the next steps in her love life and her career.

Romance for One
Revisado: 05-28-23
I loved the premise of this story, the idea of marrying oneself, as a way for the main character to figure out her next steps in life. Of course the story does include an actual romance between two people, but there is more to it than just falling in love with a person. Cleo and the reader both fall in love with the island, and it’s inhabitants. And that is as much of romance as Cleo and Mac.

Historia
In 1961, at the height of the Cold War, the United States severed diplomatic relations with Cuba, where a momentous revolution had taken power three years earlier. For more than half a century, the stand-off continued—through the tenure of ten American presidents and the fifty-year rule of Fidel Castro. His death in 2016, and the retirement of his brother and successor Raúl Castro in 2021, have spurred questions about the country’s future. Spanning more than five centuries, Cuba provides us with a front-row seat as we witness the evolution of the modern nation.

History through a Cuban lens
Revisado: 05-27-23
This is a book that covers a lot of history, from the arrival of Columbus and other explorers to the present day. Because of the scope, the book moves quickly, but has good insight into how closely entwined the U.S. has been with Cuba since before the U.S. revolutionary war. The book reveals many ways in which the U.S. has tried to use Cuba for its own purposes, and some will find that upsetting. But it is helpful to understand the trajectory of Cuban history. I’m very glad I read it, to better understand where Cuba is now and parts of U.S. history that I didn’t know.

Incredible performance
Revisado: 01-17-23
I always love an entry into Penny Reid’s Green Valley, and this book was no exception, with reformed bad boy Hank, owner of the Pink Pony. Hank and Hannah’s story was great, a sort of long term crush trope. But the narration really stood out. Joy Nash’s voice for Hannah’s mom was so good I had to listen twice in one spot just to hear it again. And Chris Brinkley was amazing as usual, he does such a great job with accents and voices. It was fun to hear Cletus as a side character again.

Historia
The McCready Family Funeral Home and Bait Shop has crickets running rampant in the store and hot sauce in the Snack Shack's ketchup bottles. But as the county coroner, Frankie has enough on her plate without worrying about the increasingly mean pranks being played at her family's business. And the arrival of Sheriff Eric Linden, both devastatingly attractive and painfully taciturn, is enough to push her over the edge.

Too short.
Revisado: 03-10-20
This is a prequel to the next novel in the series. But it ended so abruptly. It would have been better as a self-contained story. But within the would of the series, it was good.

Historia
Dressed in Victorian attire, Juliana Anderson gives guests at her cozy New England bed and breakfast a taste of old-fashioned hospitality. Whether she’s cooking up delights in her kitchen or maintaining the rooms in her beautifully decorated inn, Juliana stays busy and content. Until Webster Donovan arrives - tall, rugged, and sexy beyond belief. The lean, dark-haired author has a bad case of writer’s block and he’s planned a six-week stay to cure it.

Any additional comments?
Nice love story, fun to listen to. As always, I especially enjoyed Patrick Lawlor's performance as well. The thing I love about Suzanne Brockmann is that her characters seem so real, even in this early novel. Even the secondary characters had such a great story, I wanted to read their romance!

Historia
Stephanie Plum is thinking her career as a fugitive apprehension agent has run its course. She's been shot at, spat at, cussed at, fire-bombed, mooned, and attacked by dogs. Time for a change, Stephanie thinks. Time to find the kind of job her mother can tell her friends about without making the sign of the cross. So Stephanie Plum quits. Resigns. No looking back. No changing her mind. She wants something safe and normal. As it turns out, jobs that are safe and normal for most people aren't necessarily safe and normal for Stephanie Plum.

More Plum Fun
Revisado: 06-24-05
Eleven on Top has all the fun hijinks that readers expect from a Stephanie Plum novel. If you are looking for new developments in the Morelli-Stephanie-Ranger story, it is not there, but there are many laugh-out-loud moments. Lorelei King does a great job, as usual, with the narration, making the characters come to life. For Plum fans, this is worth a listen.

Gripping Suspense, great characters
Revisado: 06-07-05
The Cutcut was the novel that really introduced me to the espionage suspense genre, and it is a great one. It has a great suspenseful story but also we see a character, Caroline, who is torn between her husband and duty to her country. I loved this book when I first read it several years ago and loved listening to it, even though it is abridged. It was a great review to prepare me to listen to the sequal "Blown."
