Historia
A visit to the local village fete for a spot of fun and relaxation turns into a nightmare for Agatha Raisin when she discovers the body of the local landowner in the woods with an arrow in his chest and trousers round his ankles. Agatha’s old adversary, Detective Chief Inspector Wilkes, declares the death a tragic accident, believing the victim has been hit by a stray arrow from an archery demonstration. Agatha is convinced of foul play, however, and is shocked when Wilkes eventually agrees … with her as his prime murder suspect.

Crazy Risk Taken
Revisado: 04-01-25
Overall, I liked the story and think Green has done a fair job with the series since Beaton’s death. However, the risk taking by both Agatha and Roy in this installation was crazy and the result veered from the “cozy” genre a bit. I will not give away the plot but I was very surprised. Also, Wilkes as an antagonistic clueless boar is getting old. Again, descent story for the series but unnecessary risk taking for characters not packing heat.

Good Summary of Moscow, ID Murders
Revisado: 09-21-24
It was a good summary of what is known and verifiable about the murders. It also includes a background sketch of the victims and the accused. I listened to another audiobook on the same subject and thought this was more comprehensive.

Hidden beneath her British reserve, Edwina has a secret: she’s finished her novel and is bravely mailing the manuscript to a publisher. Beryl also has a secret: as thanks for solving a case, the American adventuress has been gifted an airplane. After swooping over the fields and hedgerows of Walmsley Parva, livestock scattering beneath her, she flamboyantly lands the plane on the village green, prompting a startled Edwina to consider a stiff gin fizz. Beryl’s aircraft is not the only disruption of village peace. Miss Dinsdale, a psychic medium, has started holding séances.

Cozy Mystery and More Growth for Edwina and Beryl
Revisado: 06-25-24
Interesting twist but I like the growth of the leading characters and the other denizens of Walmsley Parva best. Edwina keeps stretching herself with Beryl, Charles and Simpkin encouraging her. Each character has grown since the first book, which keeps me coming back to see how they solve the next mystery.

It's Valentine's Day in Winterspell, but not everyone appears to be feeling the love. And no, I'm not talking about my dateless self. Instead of being wooed by candlelight, I'm working in a candle shop. Cora Hearth, Winterspell's magical chandler, has teamed up with Sugar Shack to create party favors for the lucky couples, and they're counting on us to spark some magic for their special night. So, when a thief breaks into my delivery van and swipes the goodies, Cora and I-and her persnickety talking cat-have to join forces to track down the culprit in time to save Valentine's Day.

Mystery sans Whodoneit
Revisado: 03-29-24
Interesting story that flows along at an okay pace. There is less a big reveal and more of an uncovering. It ends as it begins: with an uncovering. The Easter title sets the season and gives the theme for village fete. The narration was good for the most part but I did not like the stuttering vicar but unsure if it could have been better.

Great Story Told by a Great Narrator
Revisado: 02-06-24
Bertram Hotel is one of my favorite Miss Marple mysteries and Stephanie Cole is a favorite narrator for the Miss Marple mysteries. The characters are all on stage at the Bertram Hotel and Father and Miss Marple have the right playbill. The beauty of Agatha Christie is that you don’t just listen or read once. You must listen or read again to catch what you missed from the previous listen or reading. Enjoyed listening again.

Another Fun Adventure wKat and Lord Harry
Revisado: 10-13-23
A setting outside of jolly old England for Kat and Lord Harry but the same adventure: the two are helping someone who needs discretion. Although I saw the main “twist” right away, the adventure was still fun.

Fairly Good Story Read by the Wrong Narrator
Revisado: 09-26-23
The story had intrigue, suspense and good twist. However, I agree with reviews that the narrator was not good for this book. If you are unable to produce a credible French accent, none is preferable to bad. Again, a decent story for cozy mystery readers but the narration took away from the enjoyment of the audiobook.

Cozy, annoyingly disappointing
Revisado: 05-14-23
Gemma and the old biddies are on the case to uncover who killed Gemma’s tearoom rival. As commented by some other reviewers, the sleuth can stand up to potential murderers but not her mother…this bit has gotten old. If you are looking for a cozy mystery and able to suspend disbelief over the nosy Parker(s) stumbling about accusing all suspects until they happen upon the actual killer while the “incompetent” police complain about all the “help” that they get from the meddling amateur, then this is a fine read or listen. If that formula annoys you, then make a different selection. The narrator is good for the series.

Wonderful Cozy Christmas Murder Mystery
Revisado: 12-28-21
I have listened to all the High Society Detective offerings at least twice but Murder on a Midnight Clear is my favorite. I have listened to it at least five times and I am looking forward to the next installation. I like that we are away from Olive’s family and friends except Jasper. It was great meeting new characters with their own back stories and quirks. Also, Jasper and Olive switched off playing Watson to the other. The narration of Elizabeth Kletts was great as usually. I would love story involving Jasper’s manservant in which Olive proves him innocent so he can get past his negative feelings toward Olive.
