No one remembers how the Divide was created. The miles-deep and miles-wide chasm has existed for hundreds of years, protecting what remains of humanity from the Golyat: a creature whose shadow moves across the horizon at sunset.

Good storytelling
Revisado: 07-23-19
We enjoyed the narrator's voice, though some characters were inconsistent. The word viscous was consistently mispronounced. Those details aside, this is well written tale and was powerfully delivered.

Bad guys
Revisado: 10-12-17
Very lovely narration of a morally ambiguous story--unsatisfying ending. Characters were well differentiated, though could have used more differences between female character voices.

Decent tale, well told, with issues
Revisado: 04-15-17
The story while gripping, omits an important discussion of standing up for truth. The narrator gives a compelling reading, has wonderful character voices, but needs to back off or reposition his microphone--too many plosives--popped p's and b's, that distract from an otherwise good performance

Grand tale
Revisado: 04-15-17
The author does a good job of telling this long tale. The quality of the recording is diminished by the poorly done re recordings where lines had to be redone. No effort was made to match pacing or volume or tone of voice, so be prepared for these lines to jump out. Otherwise, get ready to dive into the life of a surfer in an unexpected autobiography.

Historia
This is the intimate story of 20 tsars and tsarinas, some touched by genius, some by madness, but all inspired by holy autocracy and imperial ambition. Simon Sebag Montefiore's gripping chronicle reveals their secret world of unlimited power and ruthless empire building, overshadowed by palace conspiracy, family rivalries, sexual decadence, and wild extravagance, with a global cast of adventurers, courtesans, revolutionaries, and poets, from Ivan the Terrible to Tolstoy and Pushkin.

A detailed history
Revisado: 07-12-16
The narrator remains fresh and clear through the many hours of this detailed telling of a family of power. The many Russian names get a bit muddled owing to the writing. But it's a compelling tale.

A look into another world
Revisado: 06-12-16
Grunt is a reporter's view of military R&D. It has a sense of wonder and curiosity that appeals to a general audience, but maybe not if you are a veteran. The narrator does a superb job conveying the author's point of view. You'll learn things about the nuts and bolts of outfitting our military.

Missed potential
Revisado: 03-27-16
"what does that even mean?" Is a phrase too often heard in this story. The main character becomes a mere plot device who too often cluelessly prolongs the story. The narration is is fine except for weak characterizations. the character Black is first a Southerner, then not, then he settles into a Boston accent.. All the creeps have Hillbilly accents even though the setting is Washington state. There were also poorly done edits where the tone changed noticeably.

When linguist Andrew Dennison is yanked from his bed by the Secret Service and taken to a top secret facility in the desert, he has no idea he's been brought there to translate the words of an ancient demon. He joins pretty but cold veterinarian Sun Jones, eccentric molecular biologist Dr. Frank Belgium, and a hodge-podge of religious, military, and science personnel to try and figure out if the creature is, indeed, Satan. But things quickly go bad, and very soon Andy isn't just fighting for his life, but the lives of everyone on earth…
