Historia
There's a saying in Barstow, California, a decaying city in the scorching Mojave desert . . . The Interstate here only goes in one direction: Away. But it's the only place where ex-LAPD detective Beth McDade, after a staggering fall from grace, could get another badge . . . and a shot at redemption. Over a century ago, and just a few miles further into the bleak landscape, a desperate stranger ended up in Calico, a struggling mining town, also hoping for a second chance.

For Time Travel Lovers
Revisado: 01-09-24
If you like time-travel or sci-fi novels, you may like this novel. If you don't, like me, you might want to skip this one. I love this author's Eve Ronin crime series and was hoping for another strong, female cop and a gritty mystery. It starts out that way, but quickly evolves into sci-fi. I made it about a quarter way through the book and had to quit.

It started with a haunting image: a Ford Explorer, iridiscent in the moonlight and alone on a desolate stretch of beach. Its owner, Melissa Gibbons, has gone missing. Her husband says she flew the coop. But Los Angeles Deputy DA Rachel Knight is convinced otherwise: Melissa Gibbons has been murdered. So begins the confounding case that Rachel must present before a disbelieving jury. A dissatisfied heiress and her philandering husband - what really happened?

An Hour Long? Really...?
Revisado: 04-21-23
Okay, my bad for not reading the entire description, but this book is only 1 hour and 31 minutes long. I'm a fan of Marcia Clark, so nothing against the author, and the little I heard was good, but come on. You CHARGE for this?

Historia
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s detective Eve Ronin and her soon-to-retire partner, Duncan Pavone, are running a 24-7 sting in a guard-gated enclave of palatial homes in Calabasas. Their luxury McMansion is a honey trap, set to lure in the violent home invaders terrorizing the community. The trap works, leaving three intruders dead, a body count that nearly includes Eve and Duncan. Eve’s bosses are eager to declare the case closed, but there are too many unanswered questions for her to let go.

Couldn't put it down!
Revisado: 11-13-21
I love the Eve Ronin books, and this one is no exception. The writing is fast-paced, the action just keeps on coming, and the characters are believable and imperfect -- although this detective's obsession and unstoppable drive probably aren't typical, it's still nice to hope that such selflessness still exists. America needs more heroes. I hope there are many more books in this series.

Narrator Ruins It
Revisado: 06-06-21
Loved the first Solomon book, but this one, not so much ... In Book 1, there was intelligent humor and the verbal sparring kept my interest while the narrator gave the characters credence and depth. Not sure why the narrator had to be replaced (a mistake) but this narrator for "Deep Blue Alibi" ruined the experience for me. He incessantly characterizes Solomon as juvenile, clueless and with all the depth of a spoiled teenager. Victoria comes across as vain, shallow and hormonal. I stopped listening and flipped over to the Kindle Unlimited version of the book. It's better in print, without the sarcastic, whiny inflections of the narrator .. but still, this book lacks layering and depth, like really bad reality TV. The sexual spark has clearly fizzled out between Solomon and Lord; now their relationship is resentful and just plain dysfunctional. Can it come back? Hope so, as this could be a good series.

Good Social History ...
Revisado: 05-14-17
Love the narrator, and it's a good lesson in social history to read a novel about the 50's that was actually written in the 50's. It's meant to be a tough noir, and it is, with an added poetic flair by a truly brilliant writer. If you love Bogart movies you will LOVE this book ... same choppy, gritty dialogue. But the chauvinism of the era can get a little grating. It's a true product of it's time -- when men were men, and women were not even close to equal -- so I didn't hold that against the author. Interesting to remember just how far we women have come.

Good Story, but ..
Revisado: 05-14-17
Good story, well-thought out mystery, but I personally don't do well with shifting first-person books that reveal the story from two perspectives and two time-periods so grudgingly. Makes it difficult for me to relate to the main character. Guess my thinking is too linear. I like solving the case in real-time along with the detective.

Revisado: 05-14-17
The narrator is one of my favorite's, always love his work. His deep base voice adds a gritty depth to this author's work that enhances Detective Decker's credibility and toughness. I love the whole series, but pairing with Ferrone as narrator was a brilliant move.

Historia
Larry Virgil skipped out on his latest court date after he was arrested for hijacking an eighteen-wheeler full of premium bourbon. Fortunately for bounty hunter Stephanie Plum, Larry is just stupid enough to attempt almost the exact same crime again. Only this time he flees the scene, leaving behind a freezer truck loaded with Bogart ice cream and a dead body—frozen solid and covered in chocolate and chopped pecans.

Stephanie Plum might not be the world's greatest bounty hunter, but she knows when she's being played. Ken Globovic (aka Gobbles), hailed as the Supreme Exalted Zookeeper of the animal house known as Zeta fraternity, has been arrested for beating up the dean of students at Kiltman College. Gobbles has missed his court date and gone into hiding. People have seen him on campus, but no one will talk. Things just aren't adding up.

Not her best, but still ...
Revisado: 01-19-16
A lot of the book is "same old-same old," which is a little annoying; surely the genius of Janet Evanovich can come up with new Stephanie-exploits (for instance, Stephanie continues to blow up cars and amuse Ranger doing it). This book did have some new plot twists that were refreshing and unexpected. I won't spoil it for other readers, but expect a surprising change in her relationship with Morelli and more depth of character in Stephanie's mother. I rated this book a little low, because it feels tired, cookie-cutter and at times implausible compared to earlier books in the series. But still .. I would rather listen to a so-so audio-book from Evanovich than the best efforts of lesser writers. She and the narrator, Lorelei King, are that good.
