Another great chapter in the James Reece saga
Revisado: 06-24-24
My only real criticism is that some of the dialog, especially in a scene where the bad guys are referring to IRL books and events, felt forced.

Decent story, mediocre performance
Revisado: 10-04-21
This is a decent story based loosely on Dr. Heiser's theological work.
The biggest weakness is the reader's sometimes discordant use of emphasis in dialog, the often clownish sound effects, and the mid-80s muzak throughout the story. I found all of that to be distracting from the story.

Historia
How do you tell your part in the biggest tale in history? I ask because it's what I have to do. I'm Zoe Boutin Perry: A colonist stranded on a deadly pioneer world. Holy icon to a race of aliens. A player (and a pawn) in a interstellar chess match to save humanity, or to see it fall. Witness to history. Friend. Daughter. Human. Seventeen years old. Everyone on Earth knows the tale I am part of. But you don't know my tale: How I did what I did—how I did what I had to do—not just to stay alive but to keep you alive, too.

I enjoyed this more than I thought I would
Revisado: 09-28-20
I had some doubts about this audiobook since so many of the reviews talked about how it was a retelling of the preview story from a different perspective. I would have agreed until about the last half to last third of the story where it started to really come into its own. I could've done without the existential teenage angst portions in the first half. but it made up for it by giving more of a look into the culture and background of the other alien races later on.

Historia
In the 25th century, humankind has spread throughout the galaxy, monitored by the watchful eye of the U.N. While divisions in race, religion, and class still exist, advances in technology have redefined life itself. Now, assuming one can afford the expensive procedure, a person's consciousness can be stored in a cortical stack at the base of the brain and easily downloaded into a new body (or "sleeve") making death nothing more than a minor blip on a screen.

Great story, great narrator, not great recording
Revisado: 08-08-20
The only knock I have with this audio book is that the narrator sounds like he has a cold (or has a stuffy nose). The 'highs' of a person's voice is muted in this recording, so i had to turn the volume way up to understand what he was reading. Otherwise, it sounded like Charlie Brown's teacher.

An entertaining origin
Revisado: 06-12-17
This was a great origin story to one of the Star Wars EU's most loved villains. I certainly hope to read more about him to see where things go in the new continuity.
My only criticism for this performance is the background music and sound effects were distracting at times. Sometimes the reader was almost completely drowned out by the background explosions, jungle sounds, or the scream of ship engines. I think overall, I would have preferred to just have the performer's voice without all the extra audio.

Historia
Bob Johansson didn't believe in an afterlife, so waking up after being killed in a car accident was a shock. To add to the surprise, he is now a sentient computer and the controlling intelligence for a Von Neumann probe. Bob and his copies have been spreading out from Earth for 40 years now, looking for habitable planets. But that's the only part of the plan that's still in one piece.

Great follow up book
Revisado: 06-03-17
Great story, great performance. Can't wait for book 3. And if Ray Porter doesn't narrative the third book, I riot. I simply cannot imagine the Bobs portrayed with anyone else's voice.
My only criticism is there were many places where rerecording obviously took place. These took the form of changes in pitch and timbre of the narrator's and recording quality. It would go from clear sound like someone sitting next to you too suddenly that person speaking through a cardboard tube, and back again.

The remaining Hélio children, Lucasinho and Luna, are under the protection of the powerful Asamoahs, while Robson, still reeling from witnessing his parents' violent deaths, is now a ward - virtually a hostage - of Mackenzie Metals. And the last appointed heir, Lucas, has vanished from the surface of the moon.

A good continuation of the story
Revisado: 05-17-17
But with more fleshing out of the world than the last book. There was also more action, but that action send less impactful to the overall story. As far as the performer is concerned, he could've used a little more pause between scenes. Transitions seemed to blur together and I had to back up often too catch the shift in the story.

Game of Thrones meets Dallas on the Moon
Revisado: 03-22-17
This was a much better story than I was expecting. There is a bit too much sex in some places (I'm no prude, but I sometimes felt there a page quota the author needed to meet), but I liked the world of the moon. Corporate anarchy (there is no criminal law, only contract law) makes for interesting architectures for fictional societies. I look forward to seeing how some of the characters will continue to develop going forward.
